Its not what storm brings to the team but the overall effectiveness of the team that I’m arguing. Sure storm can do some things better than sentinel but what sentinel adds to s\d is much better reward than storm will. I’ve said this in the past, a big part of storms game is to hail. Since strider is backing her up, you can pretty much count out that hailing strategy because strider needs the bar. So the most effective type of character that strider needs is a character that can do GREAT damage solo, doesn’t have to dump bar, and adds a huge factor to strider’s ability to control the screen.
Drones act as semi AA. They cover strider’s head perfectly. Storm prjoectile doesn’t do that. Drones are a big part of strider’s game to stop cable. w\o drones against cable, he can kinda jupfwd+ahvb and hit strider all day. He’ll actually jump past the bomb. Not to mention that drones come out from an unorthodox angle that shuts a lot of rush down options down leaving strider with pretty much the upper hand in that situation.
I’ve talked to clock about how much bar do you need to win a game and he’s told me for him, he just needs 2. So you don’t need hella bar to an extent, its just a plus. Not to mention that meter building trap reps yield up to 1 bar per trap depending on the scenario.
When you try to balance out any strider based team, you kinda make him weaker if sent isn’t on it. Storm\doom is good but you’re handicapping strider who IS the team. The purpose of any strider team is to make him effective @ the cost of your other 2 characters. Rounding out the overall team chemistry isn’t a good idea imo.
^ I agree with everything that you said. Especially the part about anti-cable strider, and countering rushdown. If you lose anything overwhelming in the sent/storm trade, its the drones.
The only other thing I could add is that alot of the time, if strider gets eaten up, sent + rocks is a (fairly) good backup. Sent or Doom solo kinda sucks tho. Storm adds a reliable chip/runaway backup, even if it comes down to solo storm. whereas a solo sent or doom would most likely just get eaten up by a good cable +aaa or an effective rush + AAA.
I used to use Doom/Strider/Storm way, way a long time ago, in that order, back in the days when nobody knew how to play Magneto or Sentinel well enough that they were considered Doom’s nemesis. Doom built the meter with Storm horizontal typhoons clearing out the ground, DHC’ed to Strider, Strider chips until he dies, then Storm runs away forever with the lead and chips a little more with Doom and just enough offense and crossup to work with. Ah, when Doom was actually considered really good on point… I miss those days.
But if you’re going to use Storm/Doom, you may as well go old school and use Storm/Sentinel/Doom. That’s actually a pretty good team, although you have to run and keep on the offensive if you go near the ground these days.
storm/strider/doom is a good team, but i dont even consider doom an anti-air realli. so basically thats the difference. people who know any high move almost snuffs doom makes it tough on your storm to get out of pin scenerios like shout said. sentinel/strider/doom is probably still the best s/d team. although if somebody was willing to re-learn mag/doom to twirk with s/d that could possibly be the best s/d team. magnus is ebil nowadays.
