D. Violet. Don’t like the character design visually and don’t care for power-up chars.
Hive. Gameplay sounds great, visuals are…wat.
Ileum. Everything that was said above.
Andy. Instantly got the gist when I first saw the character but I, too, don’t like chars that are already in the game- just not interesting enough (with the little information we have to go on, at least).
Adam. Same as Andy.
Taliesin. For selfish reasons- I don’t like playing this type of character.
Ottomo. Funny but doesn’t appeal.
Minette. Kind of the whole setup-/powerup-thing again, sounds annoying once the novelty has worn off.
Scythana. That concept art…just no. I like Dhalsim-like chars but in this kind of game?
Venus. Team Penus sounds good and don’t have enough info on her, but sounds too much like things we already have.
Aeon. No.
All the other chars I would really like to see realized, despite some of them not being my cup of tea (Isaac, Molly, Eliza) at first glance.
Marie
Minette
Umbrella
Stanley
Adam
Venus
Aeon
Scythana
All are either boring (adam, marie) or are little girls that dont look like they could fight there way out of a justin bieber concert.
Though at least adam and stanley and umbrell are purported to have unique gameplay styles… Marie and minette are just the biggest wastes of space ever.
Big band i have trouble wanting in as well… Once again from the “how is this kick ass” school of thought… Ie dudes got no hands… Doesnt seem easy to kick ass with no hands… But im interested in his band concept… Not that it would make any kind of sense… But it might still be fun to use, though if i had it my way i would have put in panzerfaust way before i put in big band… Panzer looks like he can kick ass…
NOT EVER characters:
Stanley: he’s just a soup condiment waiting to happen, just as boring as Adam but without the Metal Slug references. See: Joke NPC.
Andy, Juju: Part of someone else’s special. Juju, at least, is slightly interesting, andy’s just an anvil with boxing gloves. Also, joke NPCs.
Minette: Important background character but just about the least probable fighter in the whole cast. Just because a character is popular, doesn’t mean she has to be playable (IE: I really, REALLY don’t want to hit her =X).
D. Violet, AKA D*ck Whip: No, because no. I mean it. Not only is she the fetishistic straw that broke the sexist camel’s back, wtf is it with using hissing phallus as a weapon?
Ileum: Ok, I’ll admire any character with guts, but this is way too much. It’s one thing to look beyond appearance but this is a boundary that even katawa shojo wouldn’t cross. It’s not the acid I’m worried about, it’s the other stuff that might give me nightmares.
Hubrecht: ditch that ribbon and I might reconsider it, right now, it’s not even a whole character. Like someone pointed out, it’s just r63 Aino Haato.
Scythana:: same as Hubrecht, except for SF’s Cody. For the love of frags, they’ve even gotten the same hair colour. I say ditch her and put the red headed gigan chick on the roster.
Shin Samson: Samson is already in the game. Unless you give me a real, story driven reason (with the least amount of applied phlebutonium possible), he has no place in the game.
Adam: Adam, y u so vanilla?
Beatrix: Boring.
BETTER IN SG2 characters:
Venus & Aeon: Boss material, boss tag-team from hell, the pair that would give Rugal nightmares. I love them both, but I think they’d be wasted in SG1 and maybe even 2.
iSack: Cool character and his synopsis tells me he has the potential to be the main character in SG2, story wise.
Ms. Victoria: I don’t know what I was thinking when I chose D. Violet over her. She sounds like a cool character, one that can tell us more about everyone else in the cast. Maybe she can shed some light over the past of SG1’s cast.
LeDuc & Hive: both look and sound kind of cool but I think we already have enough character’s from Lab 8 for the first instalment.
Brain Drain: Well, apparently, he’s not the boss of Lab 0, but I still think it’s too early to go toe to toe with him. I think he’d make a hell of a boss for SG2 or at least a sub-boss.
Umbrella: I think she doesn’t quite have reason to be in SG1, maybe in SG2. She’s needs more time to get angrier at not being in the game. Yandere PsychoBrella <3
Regina, Ottomo, Yu-Wan, Panzerfaust, Roxy: Not that I’d mind having them in the game, but when fighting for resources, these are just not compelling enough. When Autumn gets back to shelling $$ out, sure, why not.
Issac, yeah, I’m going to be the one to say it. I especially don’t like the way he looks, the character playstyle is pretty gimmicky, and if Mike Z didn’t like him, he certainly would be far less popular. Easily in my bottom 5.
Stanley seems pretty stupid to be honest. Panzerfaust because we don’t need another big male DLC character.
I really don’t agree with the concept of a character needing to look like a fighter, TvC Roll didn’t look like a fighter, but that’s what made her cool and kickass. Same goes with Umbrella (and Minette)
TvC was a mashup of everything and then some. Honestly, I just don’t want to see SG go either way and become either TESTOSTERONE TEN THOUSAND nor Rori Faita Zurii - mune mune kyun edition. Isaac’s play style doesn’t impress me but his art does. Same went for Molly, who I’d long discarded as a never-will-be, until they brought out the mechs.
I think all of the characters have the potentially to be cool. Adam looks lame, but so does Frank West in UMvC3, and he’s one of my favorite characters in that game. That being said, from a strictly design perspective, just looking at him puts me to sleep.
When I heard Scythana was going to be one of the choices, I was super hyped, but that was when I thought she was going to be to the scale of that one piece of art that showed her being captured by Parasoul and the Egrets. She was huuuuuuuuuge. Now she’s just… Kareem Abdul Jabar. She can still be cool. she looks like Cody, and I think there should be more huge women in games, but until I see some interesting conceptual stuff, I dunno… Maybe just make her proportionally bigger and not just tall. She looks kind of gangly and scrawny for a super strong giant. Maybe it’s the legs…
Lastly, Andy the Anvil. He’s just an anvil who boxes, and his existence depends entirely on Peacock, who is a much interesting character who utilizes him already… I know he’s a joke character, but knowing that character development takes 3-6 months or more, I don’t know if I could take having that dev time being devoted to him over, say, Black Dahlia, D.Violet, Isaac, Venus, or Victoria (my personal top 5)…
Edit: If Adam ripped his uniform off in his intro and revealed himself to be a jacked up roughneck whose primary means of fighting was just running up and punching people in the face like Jin Saotome, that would make him pretty interesting.
It’s because sounding hype and looking hype are two entirely different things. I just can’t get down with Ileum’s character design. She’s… disgusting.
That’s my issue with most of the available choices. D. Violet is an example of a character that I think has a terrible design and poor gameplay inspiration. I wouldn’t want that character to ever be playable.
I think Illeum’s design is awesome. Her gameplay was described to be like Omega Red + Jedah, which sounds pretty damn amazing to me. Also, characters don’t have to be beautiful to be in the game. I think Double is one of the most amazing characters in any fighting game and just look at her. She isn’t winning any beauty pageants is all I’m saying.
Also, I don’t see how D.Violet’s design is terrible or poorly inspired. Judging by Mike and Alex’s description, she’s based two of my favorite characters in fighting games – Whip from KOF and Hibiki from Last Blade 2/CvS2. Both of those characters are pretty unique, and Hibiki spawned a lot of characters that play kind of similar, but not really (really, they just copy Going My Way and that’s about it). Whip has equal parts zoning, rushdown, and grabs. She’s what Ghost Rider should have been in UMvC3. I’d love to see Mike combine those characters into something cool.
