xmen cota?
Evasion, meter gain/storage, between dashing and running, between full air block or air block limited to full neutral jumps and full back jumps. Extra having infinite DMs on low health. Max mode giving 25% damage boost while Maximum mode gives 50% damage boost. Having tech rolls or down evades.
Ground movement, ukemi, aerial defense, evasion options, meter management, life gauge impact on play, meter options. Sounds pretty different to me.
Got me there…god, i haven’t played in like…5 years. I keep meaning to, but I’m busy learning sf3 genei jin combos (I’m late, I know…I’m up to 35% damage, 15 hits).
You could’ve just mentioned that they’re pretty much already two different grooves in CvS2 (Extra=S and Advanced=N) =P
No…I pretty much had that coming. I can’t believe I forgot so much.
it still sound the same thing as you would say in kof 98
Actually, throws/special throws should be dealt apart from other unblockable moves, as throws are substantially different in gameplay, mechanics, tactics, etc.
Agreed, aminly 'cos of Dic’s move.
Actually, Sindel could fly in MK3, too. Don’t know which month in '95 it was released, tho. [CB was released Apr 20 1995]
Samsho 2 had limited Roman Canceling as Galford/Hanzo could cancel normals with the Izuna motion.
KOF 94 also had this with almost anyone with a command grab.
kof 99~2001 how to chain combos with the help of your striker:)
Oooh this thread is still going on. . . I have expanded to all companies now in my original post. I haven’t added in all the features people have mentioned yet, been a bit busy, but I will get to it.
Thanks to Siberianhusky89 for pointing out that it was Karate Champ to be the 1st recognizable fighting game. Although Heavyweight Champ released in 1976 was the 1st game to have one on one combat.
In all honesty, I’ll give SNK the credit of introducing non-crouching knockdown attacks through Blowback (CD) attacks in both Fatal Fury Special and KOF '94, but I could be wrong.
( Normal attacks, to be specific; I mean, Zangief’s SPD induces a knockdown state, but it’s nowhere near a normal move you’d throw out at any time. )
re: super bar
Who invented it first depends on how you want to define it. If you want to define it as “powerful move available only under certain circumstances”, then AoF1 would qualify (you needed low life and full spirit bar). However, if you want to count “Supers” as being different from SNK-style “desperation moves”, the modern system we’re familiar with (i.e. a separate bar exclusively used for such moves), then TMNT:TF for SNES gets the nod. The first instance of that being used in an SNK game is Samurai Shodown 2 if I’m not mistaken, and the first for Capcom is Super Turbo.
re: 8 way flight
Sentinel, Magneto and Storm could fly in XCOTA (late 94 release).
Apartheid:
Non-crouching knockdown attacks? Don’t Honda’s far standing kicks (all knocked down in WW to HF) in SF2 count?
re: OTG:
If we count the Dhalsim-only glitch as the first juggle, shouldn’t we count the WW CPU Vega-only glitch as the first OTG?
re: MK
One thing (among several) that MK did first that I haven’t seen mentioned: Alternate types of hit stun. You had freeze stun from Sub-Zero, stagger stun from Johnny’s crotch punch, and Scorpion’s special dizzy stun from his spear.
Wasn’t KOF94 was the first possible game to have it so that your Team mate could jump in and do an assist attack (but it was limited to certain conditions such as being dizzy or whatever) but still an Assist is still an Assist.
Also wouldn’t X-Men VS Street Fighter be the first came to qualify to have co-op supers? (Two characters on screen at once doing a tag team super)
Didn’t see it mentioned but Darkstalkers had ES and EX attacks.
Is that how people do all these crazy combos with them…just the MOTION cancels the previous attack animation? Interesting…
You forgot the Haohshokoken, also from AOF1. No need for low life.
Killer Instinct - ridiculously long combos.
Hey, I haven’t read any post except the first one so sorry if this has already been addressed but regardless I think these should be added to the list!
King of Fighters '94 - Intros (not like the movie in SFII with the skyscraper but rather like Terry saying “C’mon! C’mon!” or Ryu tightening his gloves, etc)
Phoenix Down
I mean, is this thread dead? It’d be so interesting to keep it going.
Hope the mods won’t want my head for reviving a topic after six months.
