I’d like to know about the really severe nerfs given out in fighting games. Characters are toned down all the time, but it’s the really ridiculous and extreme cases I’m interested in. What I’m curious about are characters that, between two (maybe three) games, were hit with the hammer of god and dropped to the lowest part of the bottom tier.
People like to mention how bad Sean got between Second Impact and Third Strike, so I figured that there has to be other instances like this.
More of a progression of the game instead of a direct sequal, but DJ got outright fucked between the PS1 release of A3 and the PS2 release of A3/Hyper.
Man Robo-Ky didn’t get nerfed he got fucking violated. They took the clothes off his metal back and kicked his ass into the streets. Most of the nerfs don’t even make sense.
It doesn’t have to be from one game to the sequel, right?
In that case, Yun got hit from Third Strike to CvS2. No Genei-Jin, he just didn’t feel as fluid, but at least they gave him some good supers to try to make up for it.
Pikachu, Ness, and Kirby definitely lost a lot. Throws were one of Ness’s strong points, and since Melee toned them down, Ness lost one of his best choices for K.O.ing people. Kirby’s attacks pretty much all became damage dealers, and only his smashes could beat someone, unless someone actually fell for his air b-down.
