Cable really doesn’t have shit on storm… a good storm should beat a good cable 75% of the time at least. Almost every single move she has (and she has a lot) are faster and carry more priority. Compound this with her being 3 times faster and having the best air mobility in the game. … air mobility being the best weapon against cable…
She can in fact just get a lead and go air runaway with her only real goal being outmaneuvering him when he does his predictable ass superjump to beam, grenade, or super… all of which leave him stationary in the air and waiting to be punished… then lighting attack XX lighting super… cable has terrible y axis control… that’s why most cable players gotta have mando… but you can’t call mando whiles sjing…
Lets not go overboard. Cable is god tier right? Not really. ahvbX3 is god tier… cable is just lucky he’s got it… or he’d be just another low tier. No one really denies this… and thinking that the remainder of his normals or specials put him on remotely even ground with storm is retarded.
Even ahvb which is amazing… is both cables best friend and worst enemy… it wins him matches he should have lost flat out…yes… but it’s also one of the easiest bait and punish scenarios in marvel… (nearly coining the term bait and punish.)
Cable beating a good storm means … a.) a guard break while she comes in b.) a DHC to cable c.) obvious mistake(s) made by storm… thats really it…
Using wong vs sanford is also not the best example b/c at this level of play mind games and anticipation of your opponent end up playing a huge role… and cable isn’t responsible for this. Also… looking at that vid every single
"cable" moment translated to a,b, or c… …and really it this case is was mostly the c… wong makes more than a couple somewhat uncharacteristic mistakes and it costs him the set. That and mando… who facilitates 99% of cable’s ability to keep away from storm here…
Cable vs storm solo is probably the easiest matchup for cable in terms of god tiers. Storm has the most problems out of the big four landing a solid hit without an assist pinning the opponent’s point guy. The majority of hits landed with storm are counter hits; an opponent threw out a move and got beat out by a sj. short into DHC, or whatever. A decent cable will NOT throw out moves against a storm at point blank if there’s a risk of being beaten out either by an assist such as cyke or psy, or even storm’s own high priority normals. I agree that storm has good normals and they are great for melee, but the problem storm has against cable is that its difficult for her to get into melee and stay within melee long enough for that mixup.
Storm needs an assist to help pin their point, and against cable, especially if he has bar, she can’t call the assist. She is just not fast enough to protect the assist in the same way that magneto can be all over cable, or even sentinel. Sentinel can stay on cable’s ass better than storm can from sheer flight mode.
If storm has life lead, then yeah, she has an edge over cable. But this is the same edge that other characters have over cable if they have life lead. Smart cables will not sj. after storm. In fact, no one will sj after storm because what she is baiting is a counter hit.
Cable’s not that great, I agree. But it’s not because storm can rush him down.
this game is not about characters. its about teams and your team’s strats. So i am gonna assume its a keep away team with Cable as the anchor. Usually I would go with chip/trap style with Spiral or if im feeling festive, ill Cable it up with BlackHeart AAA assist. Bullets and beams going forward, Big Portal going upwards LoL!
…
cable doesn’t take storm w/out mando with him… and even then storm has a lot of options… she can definitely rush him down w/out an assist pin.
The issue with this matchup to most people is that they suck rusty nutsack with storm. You can’t just keep away, build meter, random hail on cable.
The problem with most cables is that its ALL about landing 3xahvb. If you have teams that are good at not getting hit by it… their best weapon will spend most of his time jumping up and down doing very little chip. Plus everytime cable run’s out of meter… its pretty much time to rush him down like magnus on coke.
When I play vs cable using hulk… it’s normally block… just stand there blocking and wait for… an air grenade, an air vb, a ground vb, a ground hvb, ground fp’s spamming to 4+ hits… I just watch their patten… wait for one of these to come out… and punish with gamma charge fwd xx gamma charge up… each hit does 20% life and reminds cable that he can’t do a thing. Eventually he’ll jump at you and try his overhead to fk combo… just counter hit him with an assist… or wait and punish (if he’s trying to jump in on you… yer already probably winning.)
Most characters have one or more ways to dick up his plans if they know them… are patient, and execute. If you think storm doesn’t you need to think more.
Most average cable’s heads will a-splode when you go the whole match doing these few things
1.) never jump into their AAA (so they get free ahvb)
2.) never leave your assist in a place you can’t protect from ahvb
3.) know all your characters moves that can be ahvb punished… and simply don’t use em.
You do these 3 things… and 50% of the cast is better than cable. And they aren’t even technical things… just strategy and choice. Gotta understand that he probably can’t win unless you fail these three things… and you CAN win while paying heed to them.
Some players using cable can transcend your tricks once they learn them… but that will just expose other mixup, weaknesses, and tricks to get him. It’s a layered game.
