There usually long combo centric and have tons of meters and sub systems on top of subsystems. Plus no real story mode…mk is the new king…NRS is the only one who can make a fucking story and a fighting game on a budget. I think sf5 gonna be bad sales, one console and the nostalgia gone.
I cant play that much anymore.but i dig uniel. Dclimax. Personas great. But blazblue story mode is fucking horrendous and ya all praise the dude who wrote that trash. Persona story mode is a wrist sliter to.
Ki story barrier is horrible…its like fg makers have no idea there chasing away casuals by not making a gangster ass story mode. easy enjoyable
Let fucking casuals get sucked into the chars give um a universe and some will stick around.
Sf5. No story mode… be the next sfxtekken.
Sfxtekken dead cuz non one wanted tekken tag.in 2d with a fucking marvel combo centric system. if it was a 1 vs 1 game it still be played today. They could patch a 1 vs1 mode it be played today
In terms of the competitive scene a fighter’s story mode is irrelevant, but it does attract new comers I’ll give ou that because so many seem hyped for MKX fr the story alone. I know lil to nothing of Blazblue’s and Persona’s story so I wont speak on that. But even if those games had a good story in your opinion, the average American would likely still not get into them for being so heavily anime. and like others have stated I agree as well about the combo centric style of these fighters being hard for casual players to get into because the game becomes more about styling on one’s foe as appose to a pseudo chess match. If you can’t put together long combo strings in fighters like Blazblue, have fun struggling to dish out damage. Where as in Street Fighter or MK you can be effective with much smaller simple combos. As for SFV it’s a lil to early to be casting judgement. nd when the hell are we gonna play again Monster?
The p4 story is not bad it some curveball here and there but it interesting…now bb I can’t get through the first 10 ten min it stop making sense after a while
15 years ago it was actually Guilty Gear that was in the same spot as today’s anime games. It was considered niche, yet now it became mainstream! But I think it was a more a matter of circumstances that made the game popular.
Classic 2d fighters like SF, CvSNK2 and KOF were in decline and saturation, while air dashers like MvC2 were popular and considered as something innovative and the next big thing. So GG games attracted a new audience.
I remember reading various popular magazine reviews and couldnt believe that they’d rate Capcom vs SNK 2 at 7~7.5/10
Also the design of GG, while niche, it was just at the limits of being accepted by western gamers. Still had something in common with anime shows you could watch on TV or video.
Not going to more exquisite Blazblue or Melty Blood territory. Or even 80s-90s sci-fi OVAs like the game Metal and Lace which was censored in the early 90s and was too niche to be known.
But it seems people had enough and SF4 arrived to take back the throne.
What the…who the heck said the systems are similar? AH is nothing like UNIEL(which is closer to SF2 imo) you can fucking fly in AH for Pete’s sakes. And neither of the latter are anything like GG, which is arguably more complicated than the both of them combined.
No one even likes Aquapazza even within the anime scene. AH has been dead for a while. Persona is definitely not dead. GG is older than you think and will probably never die. Blazblue deserves to die but won’t.
This is a pretty egocentric thread if anything. How many western fighters tried and failed just like anime fighters? Fact is, Japan actually keeps trying to make fighters while us on the west coast gave up and started making shooters, which is completely fine cuz it’s what we’re good at.
In other words, it’s not that anime fighters keep dying, it’s that we still have the same western fighters we did years ago and no one is making new ones.
I wouldn’t exactly call Guilty gear Mainstream like MK or SF, but it definitely has some popularity. I think what makes Guilty gear work here in the west is how it has mechanics you’d know from anime fighters, but isn’t combo centric, you have much more mobility than say a fighter like SF, but it still has a focus on footsies and going back and fourth. Also it’s aesthetics are more appealing to the average western gamer. Guilty gear has that edgy badass anime feel you’d get from anime like Dragon ball Z, especially with it’s Rock and Roll theme. A lot of other Anime Fighters however IMO seem to be much more combo focused and aestheticaly are well…not what you’d compare with DBZ or Guilty Gear. They’re more…I wanna say Kawaii, moe, and what not. The average western gamer especially those who grew up in the 90’s with DBZ and what not, aren’t gonna be into such fighters.
Oh this is that dude who makes it look like fighting game chracters are attacking people in viral videos. These are funny. But what’s the point in posting this? This should be in fighting game comedy.
And when the hell are we gonna play again Monster? @BB_Hoody Recently I Been Having Sever Dizzy Spells N Headaches. Games , tv ,are giving me sever eye strain n severe headaches. I cant put in hrs anymore. Have to go to a eye ear specialist. Might just have a fucked up eye n need glasses for gaming or my hobbies pretty dead. Im middle aged now its wierd . Im might have to be one of them doushes with gunner glasses to play vida games , better then non at all.
Oh wow I didn’t know gaming was effecting your health like that. Yeah man do what ya gotta do. I should probabaly get my eyes checked to among other things.
Dont know if gaming the cause, more im turning 34 and shit happens and just the result…never thought id ever need glasses …getting old blows…sad story over , anime airdash away. Only games i can play seems to be fighting games. Other genres or it might be my led tv. Who knows im a be pointdexter. Ill keep playing just not long hrs… eye testv here i come. Elderly coming through
Now how in the world would I mean that? lol Oh I get it, there are so many updates of the same game release that you interpreted me saying “US only updates the same game”, and that’s kind of sad. XD
I meant main stays. MK has been here since the SNES era and so has Killer Instinct (though it kind of disappeared after that lol). When I say “keep making fighters” I mean new ones. You got me on Injustice though. Nice to see DC finally step into the ring this time around. Dunno what took them so long.
Speaking of comic-based games. It seems that both in Japan and US the really popular fighters are either based on or stylized similarly to comics/manga. Maybe if comics were more popular over here we’d have more inspiration for fighters. That’s just speculation though.
Oh well if you’re talking new western fighting IPs then yeah other than Injustice there hasn’t been any. Well there is Skullgirls and Dive Kick, but Skullgirls is so anime influenced the average gamer would assume it’s a Japanese made fighter, and Dive Kick I’m not even sure if we could call that a fighter. But there are people out there with indie ones. But it would be cool to see more western fighters giving Japanese fighters competition other than MK.
