What can we parry and punish on reaction?

I think it was a reaction based on the spacing and tendancies of Daigo. So while you can’t say cr.mk xx fireball can be parried on reaction, I definitely think Tokido reacted to those ones.

Speaking of reads, anybody got a list of meaty set ups that we can parry after Ryu gets knocked down(like Bison’s back throw into his F+HP). Like I said in the beginning, it’s another hard read but it can lead to more damage than wake up DP. And even if you guess wrong the punish can’t be any worse than a blocked DP which gives your opponent all the time in the world to react. Want to know which ones work so I can save it for that one time I need it or maybe use it early in a match to show that it’s there so my opponent will play a little scared and not be so aggressive after a knockdown.

Not really a set up but I’ve found parrys after blocking Chun lis fireball work a fair bit, she always wants that shield to protect her normals.

I’m interested to see if parry develops, right now it’s still a small side bet even with the top level players. I thought we’d see more development by now but I fully admit I’m not even using it myself. Ryus so good at running the normal game it’s not really necessary.

IIRC you can’t parry meaties since parry has a 3 frame start up window. From testing some stuff, it did mean it could get crush countered.

I think that’s why he’s asking for a list because not every meaty is a true meaty, it’s just a 50/50 set up designed to catch you pushing because your jab might be out of reach. A lot of throws usually don’t set up meaty’s. At least I think that was the underlying reason that rice eater was going for.

Yeah I worded it poorly, I meant to say set ups in which their is only a 3 or 4 frame window to press a button against a medium, heavy, or special attack. So a jab would lose and you can’t get a medium out in time. But a parry could score us good damage.

I figured it was more a read on his previous experiences sparring with Daigo.

If you ever see Nash start his air somersault to get in, just press parry. The timing is as soon as you see him jump into the air on the startup. Punish with whatever you feel like and he won’t be using that attack again.

When you see Mika startup her dropkick. Press parry and punish her. This won’t deter her from using it again during the match but it will be in the back of her mind and you can start throwing fireballs for free until she wants to use it again to get in. Harder to react to than the Nash sault but very effective

I really enjoy parrying Shinkuu Hadouken with Alex’s V-trigger. Feels so good to do it online against people who have a health lead and then proceed to tilt because you just swatted away their entire meter.
