What can Capcom's SFV learn from NRS's Mortal Kombat X

They could learn a lot from the presentation of MKX. The minimalistic UI during gameplay is quite significant, no distracting UI that takes up almost a third of the screen. It’s also simple in design, yet still stands out and is easily noticeable during your matches. I know SF uses bright colors and always has, but they need to simplify the HUD, 4 was probably the most ridiculous SF HUD I’ve seen. I need a PC mod that shrinks it to like, 50% or something, lol.

Just not how NRS implemented it, since it actually makes trying to use them a pain.

The current HUD that we’ve been shown is actually pretty minimalist already.

MKX already has a ton of character and gender specific combos thanks to the weird way that they handle hitstun, hitboxes, etc. Heck, considering that MKX still uses 3D hit detection, it probably won’t be long until stance specific combos are found.

People did go haywire initially since none of the microtransaction bullshit was present in any of the pre-release materials and it was actually easier to obtain coins in review copies and people who managed to get it early. The Day 1 patch turned coins until a grind. It died down quickly as none of the microtransactions effect the competitive element of the game (sans Goro). Only the filthiest of casuals complain about how it “ruins” the experience.

Play SvC Chaos.

I doubt that’s final though. It’s probably a placeholder and was basically rectangular boxes.

The problem is most people criticising shit don’t actually stand by their own word. It becomes conveniently malleable or forgettable when they let their guard down, or climb off their soap-box. They’ll bitch about outrageous DLC cash-grabs while at the same time actually paying for them.

There’s only one way way to send a message to developers and that is by keeping your wallet closed. It’s a simple act and costs nothing, but it’s far too difficult for most to put into effect.

Don’t even get me started about ‘modern’ game development practises and DLC as a whole. I’ll become an even more verbose dickhead than usual. Though in short, I’d really like to think Capcom learned some valuable lessons with the whole SFxT fiasco.

SFV’s last boss character should be Goutetsu with SNK Boss Syndrome.

They should pronounce SFV as Ess Eff Vee

It still is weird how NRS got criticized for the female looks in MK9, having to dress them more in MKX, yet Capcom gets away with Cammy zoom camera angle! Other Japanese FG developers as well. Apparently, if they’re Japanese they’re excused but western developers have to follow their own morals!

The stance stuff is fine with me as it makes sense IMO. If I try a BnB that involves my back foot and I’m not in the stance where my back foot would have a better chance of hitting them, there’s a chance it could whiff and I get punished. I have the choice to switch stances so I have a better chance to connect with said BnB if need be.

Its not like SF where its pretty much “derp DeeJay big damage combo doesn’t work on 42 members of the cast cos we don’t know how to do hurtboxes. Arso, we hate brack peopre derp.” and there’s no stance option to see if it would work that way.

If I remember correctly, there is an episode of Excellent Adventures that took place shortly after Ultra dropped. They had Combofiend on the show and he confirmed w/o blatantly saying that Capcom Japan took US feedback from the location tests and dumped all of it into the trash. But they listen to the West.

Japanese developers don’t get away with it. People complain but the Japanese devs don’t give a fuck and I love them for it.

As long as they learn not to follow bad DLC practices (SFxT brings back bad memories, too) from MKX we are cool.

It is fun you are talking about mileena and kitana, because I know specifics for those two. As well as some that works only on male characters while being in the opposite stance than me.

Oh but they will, and yes, there will be blood.

God bless them.

character specific intro’s, remember ryu vs ken or ryu vs sagat in older games? does special intros were really awesome back then i really hope capcom brings it back and works extra hard on pleasing the Street fighter fans

But aren’t they supposed to be following KI’s lead this time, with seasonal DLC content instead?

Yeah they probably will. I was just being melodramatic.

Yo, as much as I like Mortal Kombat, one thing being good doesn’t mean a competitor needs to do the same shit. Shit like the towers and challenge modes are good but I don’t think a long, poorly written B-Movie story like MKX would fit Street Fighter.

if MK story is a B-Movie what does that make SF story? lol

SF story has gotta be the least inspiring thing in the universe. less inspiring than Chaz Bono even
