What attracts you to charge characters?

I used to play motion characters more than charge characters but over time it has changed. I now play mostly charge characters. I think it’s because they generally seem to have better normals, I think capcom did this because they are not able to pull out their special moves whenever they want. I am a pretty simple player, I like playing a character knowing that I can rely on good normals. Why SRK when I can just st.HK? I like having good buttons lol.

In AE I mostly play Guile, Bison, Vega. I used to main Vega but started playing Bison because I think he is a better version of Vega. I recently started playing Guile after watching Dieminon on streams over that last couple months. I love his style.

p.s. also, if I ever go somewhere that doesn’t have a ps3 i can still play charge characters on the horrible x box pad.

I imagine that this is the case for many people. It’s definitely why I play Guile.

I originally hated charge characters as a kid. Like many new players, the motion is not as intuitive as a fireball, and you’re required to think about your gameplay in a different way. Once you get accustomed to it, you don’t even think about it. Charge characters can just as easily be played offensively as defensively. The better you get at the game, the less you’ll feel held back by holding back. =)

I prefer charge characters because generally speaking they have good pokes. My experience has sharpened my poking fundamentals, and I tend to do quite well with charge characters because of this.

The appeal of hold down back the whole match? Nuh-uh, not for me. I did attempt to play a charge character only to find them either crouching the whole match or me doing a normal as opposed to their special which has magically decided not to come out at that very moment when i needed it. All i have to say for the players who do play charge characters is that I respect them as a player, the characters however… I’ll just be nice and say that they are an obstacle for me to climb over at the moment.

I have always loved the concept of rushing someone down while holding charge, it seems so tactful.

down back all day baby

Downbacking like a bitch all day son.

Seriously, though. I don’t give a fuck what anyone says Charge characters nail fundamentals in double time. Gen pretty much tought me footsies and Guile taught me everything else in the same amount of time. It’s just a new playstyle.

I wanted to learn fundamentals and stop mashing uppercuts and or SPDs, so I picked a character without an uppercut to mash and with a tricky set of normals to use (Dee Jay).

I stuck with him because he’s fun to play, and I think that’s because he mixes the down-backing zoning game with the potential for bonkers rushdown/vortexing.

charge characters are for people who would rather react and spam safe moves.
whad i miss.

I found myself really drawn to Guile/Balrog in SSF4. Because of their strong normals they could wreak havoc on stupid/careless players. And the usually get some really cool moves, like Guile’s airthrow, or Bison’s Hell Attack.

Somehow charging just feels natural for me
