Hey guys.
I managed to snag a rather nice arcade stick last weekend for just $20. It’s a Tekken 5 10th Anniversary stick by Hori for PS2.
I plan to swap out the buttons and stick for Sanwa parts, and also would like to replace the kinda ugly Tekken 5 art with some custom art. Problem is, I’m not sure what template it uses. I did some digging, and it looks like it might be the same as the Hori Real Arcade Pro 2, but I’m not sure.
Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

By the way, you’re gonna have to do a lot of desoldering and sanding down of the buttons tabs, and maybe some drilling. The Sanwa parts will not simply swap in like today’s sticks, since this stick came around the time when stick modifications were less common.
The stock buttons are directly soldered to the main PCB. The stick mount will allow for a Sanwa JLF, but you’ll have to drill a few holes through the square gate.
Thanks. That looks like it’s probably right. I guess “T5” means Tekken 5 10th Anniversary stick?
I’ve modded sticks before. Actually, I’ve already modded the stick itself. All it really needs is a Sanwa octagonal gate with four drill holes for the existing screwmounts.
The buttons as you noted are soldered directly to the pcb so I’ll have to do some desoldering first. Not a big deal though. The question is how to deal with the tabs that hold the Hori buttons in place. If this were a plastic stick, I’d just use my soldering iron to melt them and then a knife to scrape away the plastic crud.
With a metal stick, I’m not sure what I’m going to do about that. I don’t have a dremel. I wonder if needlenose pliers would do the trick? Any advice?
Oh yeah, one more thing. Do you know any good resources to find high res art suitable for arcade sticks? I’m looking to make this one into something not so typical, not Street Fighter. I’m thinking maybe Dead or Alive. Finding high res Ayane art is what I’m after most.
Or maybe a Neo-Geo MVS control panel motif.
You’re on your own for looking for your own artwork. There should be plenty of Ayane DOA stuff around. Google Images
As for the metal tabs, Dremel is the way to go. I got a battery operated one for around $30-$40 several years when I started modding sticks. Good luck.
