Cool article, that must have slipped by me when I was looking at the SRK front feed. Real neat to have Choi himself chime in on the situation and give a little insight on what was going on from his perspective.
Ryu can do cr.lp/cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.hp xx hadoken fadc u1 on poison anywhere.
Gives you the same damage as if you did ex hado fadc u1 but save a bar. Poisons reeling animation from ryus cr.hp spaced after 2 lights causes the hado to land a few frames later causing more frame advantage.
There any way you do it without the light attacks? It’d do a lot more dmg than ex hado, fadc if you can just space it out. The fireball eats up juggles and U1 doesn’t connect all the way. In your combo it does.
Got ultra on pc and tested it out. Proof of concept is:
go to training mode and pick ryu vs ryu.
record the dummy to walk up (make sure you both move a little so that the distance is always the same) and do crouch strong 2x then sweep combo.
record a whiff far light kick on recovery then go straight into a jab hadoken.
go to playback mode and restart match
You will not be able to jump on wake up. You’ll see the prejump frames but never enter get off the ground when hit. If you DWU, you’ll get hit meaty. This set up is easily punishable which is why I call it a proof of concept. I’m sure if you take a step back and hadoken it little bit earlier as opposed to whiffing a far short, you’ll have a safe set for your wake up hadoken trap…
I tried out using Ryu with W Ultra. I cant justify it yet. The damage is too weak on both ultra’s
Now I just started soley using ultra 2. I like it. Just gotta make sure you have 3 bars and the skies are officially shut down. One time though It didnt connect on bison. kind of weird.
Gotta figure out a way to make it useful in the corner though. U1 is so good in the corner. maybe some ways to get counter hit ex fireballs. Who knows.
Anyone have any ideas?
Right. So ive been using ryu and ultra 1 for 4 or so years. Its getting old and I want to try using him differently. Its expected to lose a lot more but at least it adds or rather complicates a boring character.
Anyways, So landing U2 in the corner with success from ex hadouken may not be as difficult as i thought. Of course you need a CH at luckily you have enough time to buffer the ultra after throwing ex fb. For practice I set Counter hit to random in training mode buffer u2. If i saw CH i would hit 3k. Pretty easy to react to in matches as well.
U2 will never be as good as U1 but at least now its bearable to use.
