What are your reasons for using strider?

My reasons are
1.) Vajra Assist
2.) Level 3 XF Combos (don’t really care for ouroburos that much)
3.) Incoming mix ups

Outside the realm of these three things, I don’t find the use for strider.

I have been running strider since day 1 and still think he is a pretty bad character.
1.) Low health. Almost any combo will 1 hit ko you.

2.) Low damage. Even the hard combos won’t net you good damage.

3.) Moves are highly punishable.

His teleports and wall cling are such an easy air grab and can lead to your death.
Vajra H is also punishable. Just chicken block in the air or x-factor cancel and you are dead.

His projectiles are don’t up that well either which makes it hard to make those things above safe without any assists.

The durability of his projectiles are pretty bad. They don’t go against well on things like disruptor, plasma beam, and triple arrow. Someone can just stay back, call assist + spam projectiles, and pressure you to do one of those punishable moves. You can slowly move in and take the chip but usually people don’t choose this option because of his low health. So many people end up throwing a hail mary vajra hoping they don’t get punished.

The only projectile that is good the air bomb. Which can make your teleport moves semi-safe. However, it is still difficult to get out without eating a projectile yourself.

I still cannot find good enough reasons to justify Strider’s low health and damage.

Phoenix has low health but has amazing redeeming factors. Strider’s redeeming factors are just so-so.

The only reason I haven’t dropped strider yet is because my mix-up/resets have been too dependent on the vajra assist. If I could find an assist that could make up for it, then I would probably drop him out of my team.

I put him on anchor so he can could have level 3 XF. I think that is only way to make up for his low damage (unless you are doing gram hard tags or strong dhc).

The only problem is when XF runs out. Then you are back to being weak. Unless the opponent falls for my incoming mix-up and resets. I usually go down hard.

So yeah. What are your reasons for using strider guys? And what are your opinions on strider?

Also can someone please enlighten me about everyone’s talk about strider’s amazing mix-up / reset potential. Because I still haven’t see anything mind blowing yet.

I hate Vajra assist with my whole life. Not my type of assist at all, hate when things don’t feel natural.

But he’s Strider, and he has to be at least on my secondary team for sure. Used him probably in 85% of the matches I’ve ever played in MVC2 (from about 1000+ maybe?). True character love in the making.

Same, he was my main in mvc1 and 2.

To me he’s like a little pixie version of Dormammu with a better assist which is still pretty damn good. Chou (top Japanese Strider) shows off the Dorm style mix ups you can do with him and an assist where you can pretty much choose what side of the opponent you want to be on all at all times and just wittle them down without spending meter. I’d really like to see him come to the US and show some stuffs with point Strider.

You don’t have to worry about XF running out too much as long as your team is strong since if you kill one character XF3 Strider is plenty of time to take down 2 people with or without Ouruboros. You don’t even need the Ouroboros as long as you have XF to kill down a team really. You can just use it if you just wanna make sure they don’t do something or call an assist.

He’s a character that fits well in any spot and provides an assist that works incredibly strong for anyone that can self OTG into combos like Dante/Viper/Wesker/Doom/Felicia etc.

The dying in one hit thing is not a huge deal IMO because a good Strider is extremely hard to land a clean hit on and he’s the only rushdown character in the game that you literally can’t run away from. Even if you go to the tippest top of the screen Strider can still bring you down and that’s a unique trait that’s really strong in this version of the game especially. Interestingly enough his assist helps stop runaway extremely well also.

Well first off, he looks like a baws.

Also…

-Vajra
-Level 3 x-factor, he’s a good anchor IMO.
-Ouroboros

I just wish his level 1 hyper wasn’t so shitty. I’d give up ragnarok for a better level 1 hyper any day.

I came for the Vajra. I stayed for the gdlk mixups and resets. After watching Kubosgarden, I feel in love with theStrider/Vergil as a duo.

Vajra (both as an assist and a regular move).
deceptive range.
great damage (who the f*ck said he has low damage? strider packs a punch, an 8 hit combo will leave most opponents with less than half of their HP bars)
great mix ups and moves for every situation.
incredible speed
best air dash in the game
the fact that he doesnt really need XF3 to do comebacks, he is THAT badass.

what I dont like: he is left more open than a veteran pornstar if the opponent blocks/dodges his attacks.
low health.
kind of hard to do combos
possibly the sh*ttiest level 1 hyper…seriously its even a combo breaker on its own, it takes so much time to start, and for the animals to actually get in range to hit the enemy, they actually get enough time to guard even if they were in mid combo.

He is a mixup god. That is all.

  1. Well needed a viable assist to cover Chris’s ass when he is getting lamed out by flyers.
  2. Wanted to drop wesker cause got tired of the easy mode wins and all the hate mail so took up a more technical character.
  3. Ninjas are fucking cool.
  4. Has an alternate color that gives him blond hair so he completes the Blond Guy Team that i run.
  5. XF lvl3 Ouroborous

Top Three Problems Learning Him

  1. god i wish his lvl 1 wasnt so hard to connect with
  2. kinda hard to control properly at times in XF3 from insane speed boost
  3. one mistake is all it takes for him to die

Actually his level 1 hyper is good for some things. You can dhc it the first frame possible and zoo will still come out. That means, easy escape for strider. Or a free happy birthday if you have the right dhc, sent, Virgil are good. It’s short so that means interesting team hyper resets. If your anchor and have 4 bars and xf, you can zoo, xfactor, oroborous, tp, and create splatter tastic dmg, yay resets.

yea those are valid points i guess. i just wish that they made it a cinematic instead so tht it wud connect without fail considering tht its the only lvl 1 he has

I want to read your views on Strider vs Vergil matches. I heard that Spiral Swords negates Ouro but in actual play, i never had any problems running over SS with ouroborrus.

Virgil eats strider free if he has any bar. Even without bar. Helm breaker and stand h and s all shut down vajra and non covered teleport. Virgil can get lucky long range pokes and gib strider. If vergil has an assist between that, swords, and round trip, you’ll have to block at least 3 or 4 ambiguous mixups and you could die off any of those or if they have wesker they’ll unblockable you. It’s a bad bad bad matchup and strider should never win. Strider has no reversal option except lvl 3 against vergil.

These are my reasons

  1. His x-factor level 3 with ouroboros
  2. his mix ups
  3. He looks cool! He’s like a ninja!
    Bad reasons
  4. only good in x-factor
  5. low health and damage
  6. Have to be careful with varja assist
