What are the varying JST connectors typically used on Madcatz fightsticks PCBs?

Am I right in think that they are JST-XH connectors?

Which PCBS?

  • On PS3 TE, joystick is connected to a JST-XH 5 pins. The two ribon cable are either two JST-PH: one 5 pins and 6 pins (round 1) or two 6 pins (round 2).

  • On X360 TE, the front panel is linked to the main PCB with either three 6 pins JST-PH (round 1), or two 6 pins and one 7 pins (round 2). Then from the main PCB to the quick connect board, again two ribon cable are either two JST-PH: one 5 pins and 6 pins (round 1) or two 6 pins (round 2). Joystick is connected to a JST-XH 5 pins.

  • On TE2, front panel is connected with a JST-PH 14pins. Start/Select are connected with a JST-XH 4 pins. Joystick is connected with a JST-XH-5pins. There’a also a JST-PH 2 pins for powering the LED on the front logo. The pushbuttons are on a proprietary connector, but a Dupont 16 pins 2.54mm spacing dual row is working (I recommande a 20 pins and left 2 on each side, this will help to lock the connector.

  • On TE2+/TES+, it’s 10pins JST PH, plus two JST PH 5 pins for the front panel. Also, a FFC/FPC Flat Flex Cable 7Pin Same Side 0.5mm Pitch for the touch pad. Joystick, start/select and power LED are the same as the TE2.

  • On TES+, you have a similar connection to the quick connect like the TE Round 2 : two JST PH 6 pins. No power led connector.

Edit, small corrections

This was the kind of list I was looking for, thank you.

I didn’t know that they changed the connectors on each board, thought they would have like to keep it uniform.

I’ve edited my post, there’s some mistakes.

Also, for the difference betweens each design and revisions:

  • Between Round 1 and Round 2 of the TE, the KeyGround (separate ground linked to the lock switch of the front panel) has been added for the Start and Select buttons, hence the additional pin to the quick connect board.

  • PS3 and X360 are not the same USB nor working with the same protocole. While it was possible to fit everything in the small front panel PCB for the PS3, the electronic needed for X360 was to much to fit on the same size, hence the main electronic was deported on an other PCB, and a separate front panel. However, both TE share some connections: the connections to the quick connect board, and the connexion of the joystick. They are also sharing those feature with the TES+

  • Between TE2 and TE2+, there’s the aditionnal touchpad feature.

Most of those changes are evolution from feedback, and different connector is to avoid using the wrong PCB on a different joystick, which could damage the electronic. But they do share some stuffs and designs.

Remember that modding a joystick so far is not in the specification on the creation for a retail product.
