i want to learn how to use this ultra in a real match -help/tips?
I pick U1 but I don’t use it a lot. I prefer to activate it once I put my opponent on the corner.
Besides adding a lot of pressure to your attack, most of the times your opponent will go back if you activate.
I would recommend you to learn the combos so you can use them in a real match.
Training mix-ups is also good, because most of the opponents stay on defensive once Feng Shui Engine is activated. Be careful with counters also.

practical enough?
Seriously though, Seph_luis_br is right. Juri is way more dangerous in the corner. You activate U1 and 9.5 times out of 10 your opponent will run to the corner. Practice pressure and rush down tactics from there.
I like to activate Feng Shui Engine After a landed focus attack, that gives so much opportunity for mix ups, also if you have a light Fuhajin stored, you can activate Feng Shui Engine and FADC into some nice mix ups as well, Feng Shui Engine is also good (As said previously) for making them run away, if you’re ahead and want to kill some time, Activate it and they’ll back off most of the time,
Overhead --> Custom combo.

I use it after any untechable knockdown. It’s a whole lot better than ultra 2. It gives the opponent something to think about.
^No it’s not.
Ultra 1 is NOT Juri’s go to ultra. Best used against a select few characters with terrible defenses (e.g. Vega) in the corner. Other than that, you’re better off learning how to utilize Ultra 2. Ultra 1 seemed like the dominant ultra when the game came out, but over time, people got used to fighting it.
It might be the Ultra of choice in low to mid level play due to it’s gimmicky feel, and the fact that most players are unfamiliar with Juri and play scared once FSE is activated.
Also, this question did NOT warrant making a new thread.
I disagree, in fact i think it’s the other way round. A low- to mid-level player should probably use ultra 2, because of that little bit of bonus damage and getting used to some setups. But beyond that it’s redundant, it doesn’t extent her gameplay in any way and there are other ways to deal (solid) damage in the same situations you could connect that ultra 2. An experienced Juri player that is familiar with SSF4s meta game will appreciate the options ultra 1 grants, and it’s effectiveness is NOT limited to playing against characters with terrible defenses.
Of course it’s still a matter of preference in high level play, but ultra 1 is definitely good enough to use it exclusively.
At least we agree on this one :B
Hmmmm. I’m gonna be that guy to keep this thread going. Sorry.
Practical uses for u1 are tough. Everyone defends in a way that forces you to be offensive. “well of course kail, feng shui is an offensive support ultra!”. No. What I mean is that it forces you to chase if you let your opponent up. This is bad. You have to clip your opponents wings.
Practical uses when your in on an opponent is the mix up. Depending on the character, he could be in a bad situation that will force him to reversal or hope he blocks all of it. It doesn’t do heavy damage but it’s a change in who’s in control. It is a game changer. The opponent is forced to fight a buffed juri or give up control. Stay in by forcing your opponent to block incorrectly, safe jumps and if you wanna be the dogs balls, option selects and hit confirmable fse combos.
If your prey has gotten away now some uses start to show that’s not so direct. Play as normal. But realize you have a few more options. You can now combo off your far hk, far mk, far lk, far hp. You can now store 2 fireballs off of a sweep. Resets are possible after combos, 1 hit dive kicks.
Something I’ve been working on is a tech with close mk added to the input. This should in theory beat throw attempts and you can go into combo from this. This can now beat throw attempts and go into a heavy punish.
There are good reasons to use u1. Is it better than kaisen dankairaku? Nah. They’re even imo depending on the match.
Those are just some things I use it for. Do I get to hit them? Nope. But I also don’t try and set these things up. I have to put in work with this ultra. Ha.
I think there was another thread about this before.
Basically, hi level players prefer Ultra 1 because it allows for more mind games because it gives you more attack options and rushdown/mixup. It forces opponents to be extra careful because any whiff or mistake can be badly punished with a FSE combo. Ultra 2 definitely has its uses, but its setups are limited, so a good player will be able to read you after a few uses.
If you watch some tournament videos, especially EVO 2010, you can see some sick combos using FSE, especially when you know your resets.
In the end, it depends on your play style and preference
