too many to recall. some of my favorites were:
-playing a slew of snes games all day during snow days with my sister and neighbor.
-flipping through old NES manuals to check out the artwork and stories
-playing mystical ninja for hours while at a cousin’s house
-trying to complete the phoenix cave in final fantasy 3 (6)
-sitting down and training in SFII:WW on snes
Jumping on top of Kremlings in Donkey Kong Country 1 and eating berries with Yoshi in Super Mario World, both for the SNES.
Playing Maximum Tune 2 with my HS gang at our local arcade. We liked to scream at each other as we drive side by side, going at 200mph on the Wangan line and get someone to crash. Fun times.
When I was a kid, my sis and I woke up in the morning one day so we can beat Super Mario World without pause since we can’t save our game. We finally defeated Bowser when our parents were about to sleep.
We spent an entire night doing that shit also. We hated the magic carpet ever since.
Playing Eccho the dolphin on my dad’s megadrive/pc thing.
Playing Magic Carpet on the same pc.
Tricking my little brother into thinking that he could actualy control the Dragon on Alisha Dragoon with the p2 controller (several levels and he never figured out)
Playing those demo disks you used to get with playstation magazines.
Minesweeper.
^_-;
One gaming memory sticks out in particular and will always be at the top of my list.
Back in the heyday of the NES, my older brother and I used to sit at the kitchen table and take turns running through the levels of Mario 3. Our older cousin, who was in his early 20s and like 6’7, towered over us like a giant, and was the one who first taught us how to play the first Mario on NES.
Anyway, we finally got to Bowser in Mario 3, and proceeded to get fucking worked. And I mean, worked. My brother would get worked three times in a row, pass the controller to me, and then I’d get worked.
One day though, I had had enough. My cousin, who was standing there drinking a 40oz, said something like, “Man, y’all still haven’t beat that shit? Am I gonna have to do it?”
That set me off something fierce. I went SSJ2 Gohan and sat down to wreck that shit. I got worked the first two times, and on the third try I pushed Bowser’s shit in.
I let out a primal scream and my mother, brother, and cousin, cheered like I had just won the Super Bowl.
My mom was like, “Yay! You finally did it!” I stood up from the chair and took some steps backwards like I couldn’t believe what had just happened.
As I was standing there, my cousin?and I’ll never forget this?had about 1/2 of his 40oz left, and as I was standing there basking in my victory, poured the entire thing on my head and said, “Yeah! You beat the game son!”
By the time I realized what was happening it was too late, like a football coach getting a tub of Gatorade dumped on him.
The look on my mother’s face went something like: :amazed: :wtf: :wasted:  :lovin:
:razzy:
I heard her asking my cousin, trying to control her laughter, “Why’d you have to pour a beer on the boy’s head?”
My cousin was like, “They worked so hard at it, about damn time.”
Best gaming moment of my life.
Oh I forgot to mention these
-Seeing SFII for the first time in person at a local grocery store. the graphics was mindblowning then.
-Buying SFII for the snes and reading the newest gamepro finding out that i can play with some of the bosses and do hadokens mid air…

-My cousin introducing me to snk games @ a 7 eleven playing art of fighting 1
-Trying to play super street fighter II and amazing that ryu can shoot super fireballs. Could not wait to go to the capcom store and play everytime i went to the mall
It’s the weekend. Everyone is asleep. All the lights are off.
Nothing is keeping your company but the dim blue light of the game you’re currently playing.
Beating all the stages in Super Mario World and having most of the enemies with Mario faces. I think that was the first time I experienced an Easter Egg moment.
BattleChess.
Having the rook eat that bitch of a queen or the King pulling out his gun and just shooting the knight(?) in the face.
Damn man thats going back… i used to play that shit on my amiga!
nostalgic gaming experiences?
Being in awe of the snes, when my cousin’s neighbour got it before its uk official release.
4 player game wars - snes/n64: Playing heated games with my cousin and friends… trash talking and rage quit/resets ftl - mario kart/64, starfox, super bomberman, street racer, goldeneye, perfect dark etc
Being able to actually go to and arcade and play the shit out of games
My school friends and i, hangin out after school at the local quasar playing AOF2, AVP, FF2, SF2 hyper fighting, final fight, samurai showdown/2, shinobi, rygan, swat, operation wolf etc
practising my skills in the local newsagents arcade cabs - MK, kof 94/95, sf2, ff/2, aof2.
Getting pissed of at how hard the ninja gaiden arcade was…
Calling at my cousins house… playing the vectrex. Him showing me his local arcade/shop and playing bad dudes/dragon ninja, shadow dancer, snow bros, double dragon etc
Just remembering nearly every newsagents (local store kinda) had 2 - 3 arcades… and comics for 40-50p… sigh
I remember playing Enemy Zero when it came out my freshman year of high school and playing until like 4 AM with one of my best friends. For those that don’t remember, that was a survival horrorish FPS game for the Saturn where all the enemies were invisible. That shit was terrifying at the time. We kept having to switch control every five minutes out of fright.

Pretty much anything on the Saturn has a lot of nostalgia for me… particularly when the system went under and I cleaned out my local Blockbuster’s rental library for about 75 bucks.
Ikari Warriors - Atari 2600 = My first top down shooter and the rough pixels made it look good!
Castlevania - Nes = The soundtrack was so catchy and the fact that i was whipping people’s asses was priceless.
Battlezone - Atari 2600 - This was my first experience in 3d, i didn’t know what i saw
Megaman 2 - Nes - a true classic, no need to explain the timeless gameplay.
Blaster Master - Nes - A game that was way ahead of it’s time in terms of complexity and gameplay.
Kabuki Quantum Fighter - Brilliant game with very smooth controls
Isolated Warrior - Very enjoyable shooter!
Actraiser 1 and 2 - Snes - Best OST - solid action and everything that makes a game legendary.
Super Mario 2 - Nes - throwing everything and anything, and the fact that you could fight Mouser
Kirby’s Adventure - Nes - Transform into whatever shit you come across!
Super Mario world - Snes - My best Mario experience so far.
Final Fight - Snes - What’s Double Dragon? That was probably my first reaction when i saw this game.
Rival Turf - Snes - With names like Oozie Nelson and Jack Flack you can’t go wrong.
Castlevania 4 - Snes - Best castlevania ever, back to basics. Fuck that SoTN shit.
Suikoden 2 - PSone - BEST rpg ever.
Blood - PC - Caleb is more bad ass than Duke.
Dink Smallwood (yes) - PC - Shit is hilarious and lots of fun, and with a name like Dink Smallwood it’s a guaranteed success!
Applying for a Sears credit card and then maxing it out immediately so I could buy a Sega Saturn and X-Men: CotA. I played that game for weeks straight until I could beat Magneto.
Listening and watching Jon Irenicus melt an army of mages at the beginning of baldur’s gate II and thinking to myself “How the fuck am I going to deal with that guy in the final battle?!”
Cool! And here I thought I was the only one who played that series. I still have yet to play Commander Keen 2,3, and 5 though…
Yes, that’s one of the games that truly makes you feel like you accomplished something… until Sigma reveals himself again. lol
Raging every single damn time I crashed the plane playing TOP GUN at my cousin’s house on her NES.
Fuck that part.
I’m just gonna post random memories from back in the day:
- Geno’s Woods and Railcart minigame in Super Mario RPG
- Riding around in the tank on NES TMNT
- Multiplayer on Goldeneye 007. Oddjob with Mines all day
- Mario Kart 64. Wario stage shortcut.
- Pokemon. Missingno, Mew, Togepi hype.
receiving the genesis version of Mortal Kombat 2 for Christmas and being disappointed because the music sucked compared to SNES one.
receiving the genesis version of Street Fighter 2 for my birthday and, upon mentioning that I might want to get Super Street Fighter 2 for SNES some day, my mom said “no, I’m NOT buying you the same game for two different systems”. Sucked.
Getting all excited when I beat M. Bison on Street Fighter 2…on easiest, no doubt. I think this was before I even understood the concept of special moves.
Mines gotta be playing Metal Gear Solid in my sisters room during winter break in 98. I was in her room when she went to sleep and I was still there playing MGS when she woke up. I almost did not move from that spot that entire break. My sister had to of been tired of me. I just could not stop playing that game.
Another is playing xenogears at like 3:00 am and getting a phone call from moms from jail… I was like wtf?? Then I remembered she was with a thug nigga so I already knew it was his fault.
