I remember my Uncle… we called him Uncle Babe (He was from Jersey, deal with it)… He came to visit us in Florida when I was … well I guess it must have been 8 or 9. We got Nintendo when it first came out, and when Ghosts N Goblins was released… well we were on it. So my Uncle visits and my siser and I are taking turns playing it. We got to the level with the damn Dragon at the end, and all teh damn Red Demons in that blue board. My Uncle said the first one to beat the level would get 20$… now, 20years ago, thats a lot of fkn money for a kid. Of course, me being the boy I assumed my siser had no chance.
I got to the end of the board first, and almost killed the dragon but died. Her next turn, she killed it. I was furious and threw a huge tantrum and screamed and cried … until my uncle also gave ME 20$… bahahha
However, I remember how goddamn hard that game was for me as a kid.
Another good memory, is the first time I beat Final Fantasy on the NES. It was before elementary school. I got up early to play, killed Chaos, but wasnt allowed to watch the credits or see what happened afterwards, because I was going to be late for school. So my mom shut my game off (and i threw a fit, again) and went to school. The second I got home I went ot beat it again and those 4x Gas Dragons killed my whole party. LOL I eventually beat it - still love that game.
LOZ: OOT: Facing Twinrova and loling when Linkis aghast when she winks at him, the thrilling final battle with all the cinematics, and the end.
Earthbound: Meeting the Mr.Saturns and listening to the Onett theme for hours on end.
Pokemon Gold: Facing Red aka Ash! Battling in general
**
Marvel vs Capcom 2:** Everything.
**
RE4:** using Wesker w/ Sniper Rifle, one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences to date.
**
Commander Keen 4:** Finally beating the game after taking years to figure it out.
**Super Mario Land 2- Six Golden Coins: ** Speedrunning through Wario’s castle with no hits.
**Megaman IV (GB): **Beating it without getting hit once, watching the terrific ending.
Megaman X: Beating the game without getting hit (sans Sigma) and also just beating the damn game which was incredibly challenging for me when I was a kid.
The time I (secretly) taught my younger sister to beat my scrubby brother at Guilty Gear (who thought he was hot shit as Ky) by mashing out a ground chain into Volcanic Viper combo.
She won.
He was pissed.
Half a decade plus later, I’m STILL laughing.
God, that part pissed me off. I feel you on that one.
-Finally getting Pokemon: Yellow Version as a kid.
-Beating the first Guilty Gear game even though I didn’t know what the hell I was doing, using Sol’s HS
-Sonic the Hedgehog 3. After the first level (I remember it being Angel Island) I couldn’t do the next ones and gave up on the game.
oh yeah… i miss those Friday nights, my Dad taking me and my brother to block buster. We would get one game and a movie, we would game and then sit down and watch a movie and then pass out. those were the days.
now all anybody does is get intoxicated and try to casually fornicate with slutty girls. what a sad world
Playing Toy story and Jungle book on the Genesis, fuck what ya heard those games were the shit.
My family went to disney land and they had a toy story themed part where they had a giant sega controller set up with the game, and i felt like a little boss playing it and knowing what i was doing.
Ristar too.
Also, SMB legend of the seven stars, Fuck Bellum.
And that damn Mojo level on the 2nd Xmen game for the sega (?) “Reset the system” Always died on that level and could never figure that mother fucker out.
One of my very fondest game memories is playing Illusion of Gaia for the SNES. The combat, the story and the characters still give that feeling of nostalgia. One of my favorite games ever.
-Trying to beat the Wily stages in Mega Man 2 and getting beat relentlessly. I gave up for almost a year, then picked it back up again and beat it. (I did the exact same thing with MMX2 later, lol)
-Trying to beat Ninja Gaiden(or Shadow Warriors as it was called over here) and getting beat relentlessly. I gave up for almost a year, then picked it back up and plowed through it until I got to the last level. Fuck all those shuriken throwing flying ninjas. Never touched it again.
Back in '98, playing Metal Gear Solid and hoping my parents didnt see because of the blood and damns and hells. I didn’t understand it then but it captivated me. Nowdays I’m the biggest MGS fan I know.
First time I saw Mortal Kombat, it was MK2 at my neighbor’s house. I was probably like… 4, I saw all the blood and heard the screams and I saw Kung Lao’s fatality and it scared the shit out of me
Looking at all those sketchy geocities and angelfire Pokemon sites designed by kids, trying to unravel the mystery of Pikablu and what the hell is with that truck outside of the SS Anne. That was back when 56k ruled. Countless hours killed by looking at Pokemon rumors generated by other like-minded youngins. The first forum I joined was a pokemon forum and I didn’t know what name to use so I just typed “bulbasaur” and made a password. I didn’t know how to make an email address so I used my mom’s, like 2 weeks later some kid sent my mom an email that said something to the effect of “i want pikablu and i want him now or im gunna hunt u down”
I’ve logged about 245634653453435432435243543543 hours in Perfect Dark in the combat simulator alone, playing against those crazy fucked up insane skilled bots with the time limit and kill limit off. I’ll never forget the first time I beat it, my heart was beating like a million miles an hour.
Looking up all the cheats for Star Wars Rogue Squadron and playing it all day at my friend’s house. I still remember the cheat codes. FARMBOY let you rock the Millennium Falcon. TIEDUP gave you the TIE Interceptor. Had to put in two codes for the Naboo Starfighter, the first one was HALIFAX? and I cant remember the second one. And there was one that let you fly an old car too, I cant remember what car or what the code was though. It may or may not have started with a K. Rogue Squadron, where’s our cover??
OMFG the ABRACADABRA code (A, B, right, A, C, A, down, A, B, right, A) in Toy Story. I forget what it did but I remember using it. Jungle book was dope too.
4-player Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles machines. These machines took so many of my quarters. I remember playing this so much I could get to the 3rd level on 1 quarter with Leonardo… And this was when I was like, 9.
Any time any Chrono Trigger music is heard anywhere, I must follow it to its source.
HEAVYYYYYYYY BARREL!
Neo Geo machines with 2 or more games in em. Usually King of the Monsters + Art of Fighting 1 or Saturday Night Slammasters + Metal Slug (The setups at my local pizzeria growing up)
