I recently got into shmups and want to play it like the way it suppose to play…in TATE!
I don’t want to turn my tube TV up side down because I heard its dangerous.
I’m thinking about buying a nice 20-24 inches monitor.
Please recommend a few with the best price/value.
I’m going to be using it mainly for the PS2/Dreamcast in VGA mode btw, though I don’t mind S-Video or Component.
Time to set up an account over here if you haven’t done so already. Not sure about which monitor but one with a rotating mechanism on the mount seems like a must have.
All the dell lcds I have purchased have a tate-able, the really cheap ones probably dont include a tate-able mount, though.
I have the Dell 2407 and it’s awesome. 24" component inputs, good refresh (think like 4-6ms or something).
I have this ViewSonic VP171b that has a swivel pivot for vertical mode. It is only a 17 in though. Good if you are looking for a budget Tate Monitor. It is really old like from 2004 so good luck finding one.
I don’t think there’s any inherent danger in flipping the TV on its side. There’s a thread on the shmups forum that’s nothing but pictures of people doing so. I have a cheap little CRT tated on my desk like this:
I bought a wall mount for my 32 inch sharp television, but even tightening it as hard as possible does not stop it from slowly, very slowly, turning itself back into horizontal mode.
i kno this may be a dumb question but how do you get the tv to run in tate mode is there a setting or do you just turn the tv on its side and vola its done. Any help wud be appreciated cuz my dad loves shmups and it would be cool to implement this for him
I would assume that mame takes care of the video mode… could be wrong though
most schmup games on console has option for TATE mode, which turn the game veritcally.
i see so its already done in mame then
