I agree nobody cares out marvel, game is dead. However, it would simply be unfair if so cal added Justin. Additionally, they both should be out, simply on principle. But who cares right? Marvel needs that hype!!! Last time I checked marvel was just a bunch of flashing lights and pretty colors to those who had no idea what was going on…

Marvel is dead only to a certain extent. I agree that Marvel died in terms of tournament hype (even though there was plenty of it at Evo Finals and Seasons Beatings Finals last year) for the most part, but from personal experience I can say that Marvel is very alive in terms of high stakes money matches. Fanatiq played toan last year twice for a combined amount of over $70,000. I myself just got done playing Rudy from Texas for over 2k and I’m facing another opponent in 3 weeks for 1k+. At Evo, I will play somebody else for possibly over 10K. Like Robust said, SF4 doesn’t have that type of hype and it will never measure to Marvel hype, ever.

I’m sorry but I gotta back Potter on this one. Joe can state his opinion, thats fine. But when real “HYPE” comes into play, SF4 version 1,2,super, turbo, turbo EX… doesn’t matter. It will never see the hype marvel got. Actually, it will never see the hype marvel STILL gets today in some tourneys. Even if you disregard the money factor (even though 1 money match of marvel will have more money involved than all SF4 tourney winners COMBINED have got since the game came out), the amount of passion and enthusiasm marvel brings is off the charts. I’m sitting pretty here on So Cal watching RIDONKULUS hype, when I hear its all childs play compared to EC marvel hype. Street fighter 4 will never have the amount of the Hype Factor marvel brings to the table.
My post about the hype is not an opinion, its a fact. Now don’t get my words twisted and quote me saying I think SF4 sucks. I dabbled in SF4 and the hype factor is not there and I play in So Cal, the hypest of the hype in the SF4 community.
About marvel being dead? Thats a whole different story. Marvel brings out the competitive beast. We don’t keep quiet during matches, we don’t shake hands when we lose, we don’t say good game, we say you suck, you got lucky. SF4 is patty cakes. “Oh you got me with your pokes and nice combo! You misunderstand where I am coming from completely, I understand you are defending your friends opinion, but how is it any different from me stating mine? Am I not entitled to my opinion, one that is educated, as I have been a marel player for over 8 years?..Let me break down the skill difference between justin and everyone on the wc (outside of chris schmidt), imagine how you so cal sguys can barely get rounds off of him in sf4 grand finals and how he runs through brackets, now multiply that by about 5,000 and thats the difference in level. He’s only won marvel at evo like 6 times… What is the incentive for nor cal to even play? 5v5s have had important ramifications for the victors and losers in the marvel community, but you didn’t know that. He can’t just rep “anything”, try joining the EC team for sf4, they’d tell you the same shit that I am arguing. Clearly, non-marvel players can show indifference to who is on the squad because all you care about it watching the best players, but marvel players that have been reppin so cal for years, would in my view, find it shocking if they were on the team. I mean its bad enough that ffa guys are trying to monopolize the spots on the team without and real recognition or way or legitimizing their spots, as there seems to be a general wave of indifference. Or in their case, lack of skill and need for Justin and Hyo to guarantee victory. If you want to see them so bad why not give them a team? They can handle the handicap as they’re both good enough.
As much as I love Justin being here on the WC, can’t just let him play on the 5on5 WC or Socal whatever it is for Marvel. There is way too much history of WC Marvel as Potter said getting whomped 22-3 by Justin and too much history of beef and fights and just a lot of fun to be thrown down the gutter and let Justin to be on the team. Justin is forever EC Marvel. Wouldn’t really prove anything that Socal is better when you got Justin doing the work. Sounds like the cliche, if you can’t beat them, join them. That was the whole fun of the WC vs EC Marvel 5on5 because WC knew it was almost an impossible hill to climb to try to beat Justin, and it was fun watching them try, wouldn’t be as fun if they just put Justin on the team and know its guaranteed victory.
I also agree with many players monopolizing and claiming to be on the team, at least do the playoff.

i still agree with your post regardless. one little thing i would argue is ffa monopoly. only reason we thought of giving spots to some was because those players are very very active players who focus on marvel and not “out of shape” in the game. other so cal arcades with marvel are somewhat dead and moved on to sf4. your name and bill’s name came up in the very beginning when me and fanatiq were throwing out names for the 5. we just didn’t know if you and bill still play and are up for it. if you are, i would want to see you on the team for sure, i always liked watching your game. /no homo
