I finally had a chance to get my hands on AE in Kyoto’s Namco Wonder Tower. Funny that with all the machines in SoCal, I played AE for the first time in Japan. I won 27 of the 30 games I played =] There was a Japanese Akuma player who said he was looking forward to watching WCW3 on ustream. I was quite surprised that there are folks in Japan who watch the tourney! Everyone participating please make sure you put on a good show for our friends in the land of the rising sun! I was apparently in the arcade that Tokido frequents as the guy also told me that it was where Tokido plays regularly and he was third on the BP rankings list for the machines there, behind 2 Yun players. It was much fun. Balrog felt the same more or less.
It didn’t really seem like it was a overwhelming positive response anyhow so it looks like we will be sticking to Dreamcast.

This is even less appealing than on DC.
I see what you are trying to do and I fully appreciate trying to cater to the players. The problem, as I see it, is you are missing a whole generation of potential attendees by having Marvel on the DC; you are focusing on a very specific niche of players.
Not only does it eliminate an entire group of players that have only ever played it on Xbox 360/PS3 but also a group of players that have moved away from the DC and old sticks to play on the newer consoles and sticks.
I am not a fan of progress for the sake of progress but I think that it is limiting in this case.
Of course, this is just an opinion and I am not saying that “this is the way it is” but I would like to offer up a viewpoint.
im sorry but how does playing a game on a system that is arcade perfect a bad thing. and newer consoles newer sticks… with modding sticks the way people do now the stick argument is kinda lame imo. anyone who plays the game knows there is something off about both systems in marvel (ie timing and other quarks) if it wont be on arcade sticking to the arcade perfect port is overall better.
As long as Marvel is on DC, can there be the version that was played at SCR? or would that be a no no?
While I understand the point you’re trying to make JediRobb, as much as we’d like to switch over to PS3 or Xbox MvC, when offered the choice of alienating either New School or Old School, I’m going to have to say that I’m going to stick with whoever is better at playing the game.
Unfortunately, I doubt you’ll find any player willing to MM anything over $10 on Marvel on New Gen consoles. Add in the fact that Marvel needs to be played on American sticks, who outside of Valle and Choi pretty much nobody owns for New Gen consoles. We decided to put Marvel in this year as a last hurrah to the greats. I think it’d be a little disrespectful to the guys who have dedicated themselves and their money to this game by trying to move them onto a different platform.
While it’s true that there might be some crazy New Gen Marvel warriors out there, I don’t think any of them can put on as good of a show as the OG players that we’re going to see at WCW3. Is there a possibility of more registrants / aka more money by going New Gen? No doubt. But at the risk of endangering REAL Marvel players from entering? Not worth it.
Believe me though, those players that you’re talking about moving onto New Gen MvC2 are no different then I am with SF4. They are just conforming to the times. When it comes down to being serious, nothing can ever beat what you remember as the original.

I have no idea if it was some kind of special version at SCR. If you’re talking about custom color palettes and background music, that’s pretty much how all DC versions are.

We ended up streaming MvC2 last year also. In the case that an issue like that is brought forth, we’ll gladly oblige. Until then, it’s just Mahvel.
Looking through the participants, it seems like we have quite a few out of towners coming in to participate in this tournament. So far it’s record breaking as far as WCW, but I want to thank you guys for spending the money and the time to come and check us out. Hopefully we’ll be able to show you why our tournament is considered one of the best among players.
John and I have also developed a system that we believe will allow us to blast through the tournament with minimal wasted time. WCW3 is a test, but I’m sure it will be picked up in no time.
I think top 8 winners should be given Vip passes to the after hours lol
