Although it might be fun, I think most people would agree a command throw would be OP. Giving command throws to non-grappler characters has produced some pretty unsatisfactory results so far!
That’s what I mean - unsatisfactory results. Those characters can put some of the cast into some truly ridiculous situations because of their command throws.
That’s not the consensus my friend. Everyone seems to argue that the game needs buffs to everyone, not nerfs to the bullshit top tiers.
So fuck it. Give me my command throw, make U2 do more damage, make Gadoken less worthless and you know what? How about give Dan some sweet-ass walkspeed too.
It actually has so much bullshit that its impossible for them to remove it all, it looks like they are part of mechanics. So let them add some to low tiers…
I know that they won’t give Dan and major buffs or something similar. I talked about that before in this thread. They will most likely give him fixes and tweaks enough to keep him in the relative same position to the rest of the cast as he is now after the update.
And the Command Grab? Seriously? That would be a pretty horrible buff in my opinion. The only place where the Grab will help him is in his pressure game, where he is at his best already. It would be pretty useless in helping him where he actually badly needs help, which is in his mid-range game. Less recovery on Air lk.Danku would be a way better buff than the Grab, as it would actually be way more useful in the majority of situations. The grab have only a select few situations it would be good for Dan which all needs to have him be close the opponent. I would hardly believe it would be a good punish option anyway, since it wouldn’t do a lot of damage and from what we have seen on Youtube, the opponent rises up almost at the same time as Dan so it wouldn’t give any good setups options.
Although nothing is final yet there has already been a trickle of info released regarding nerfs to the top tiers, including some things that would probably be classed as ‘bullshit’. Ibuki’s neckbreaker hard knockdown, Rufus’ U1 damage, Gief’s light SPD range, Viper’s burn kick being immediately airborne, Akuma’s jumpback fireball etc. Combofiend has said repeatedly they want to make everyone balanced and viable, and I really don’t think you can balance characters relative to one another by heavily buffing the strongest parts of their game. Surely that’s just going to exacerbate lopsided match-ups even more?
I think we talked about this before Chubby in this thread and I recently made roughly the same response to Sugami.
It’s not that the Command Grab is OP(powerful, yes, but not OP. Tho if they gave Cody a Command Grab, THAT would be different…). The difference is that Dan’s Command Grab does 1) Only improve of what he’s already great at and not where he actually needs help, which is at his mid-range game 2) Doesn’t help AT ALL against his bad match-ups 3) Is a Damage Grab, not a Setups Grab like Yun’s, Yang’s or Makoto’s and leaves both Dan and the Opponent rising up at almost at the same time, leaving barely any follow-up pressure. Damage Grabs have also several perks that Setups Grabs doesn’t have. They all have different assortments of invulnerability(like Grab or Strike, especially during EX), do a respectable amount of damage and they are usually very fast. These perks, while not giving the reward of a Setups Grab, lowers the risk immensely making them very powerful for Pressure Characters.
Now lets add everything up. Grab will not address his problems, only gives his strength another variable. His bad match-ups will still be bad, just now his good match-ups will be slightly better.
Quite a weak buff, don’t you agree?
Giving him better walk speed tho, THAT would be pretty amazing since it helps him across the board with his match-ups. Gadoken fix, that would be pretty nice, making it a better poke that the opponent have to respect. Better Damage on U2 would be very good, giving that Ultra slightly more use(tho I think it’s pretty good already). I’m still hoping for better recovery on Air lk.Danku, but we can discuss that later.
So, if you want to, do give me another buff that you would like to see.
Like, something that addresses one of Dan’s problems. Hitconfirms, frame data etc etc. Not something ridiculous, just something small. Like, I would like to make Dan’s Far st.lk Special Cancelable. Not only would it help him in his hitconfirms, but it would help him slightly in footsies, since it’s pretty fast and have decent range. In fact, make it a Standing low while you’re at it, it would be the ultimate harass option to annoy your opponents.
…
That might be way to powerful.
Anyways. Please suggest something. Lets have a bit of fun.
Tho while it would sort out most of the problems with the followups, it would remove all the combos that work on crouching characters, but they are very few anyway that would be useful and on characters like Gen neither cl.mp or cr.mp works. Overall, that would be a nice tweak.
Exactly. As said several times before, a command grab won’t help Dan is his weakest points, and will most probably only make him a more annoying character. The command grab is not necessary at all. Better Gadouken and better recovery on air L Danku, are the main ways to go. Grasp it Capcom.
Oh man, that’s pretty epic. Those three changes, all tho very small, helps Dan a lot. He gets in total:
2 new moves to link with, giving him more options to his limited amount of hitconfirms.
2 new pokes that are Special Cancellable, one that is strong with decent range and one that is fast. helping him with his footsies.
A huge amount of character/stance specific combos are smoothed out, making it less problematic to maximize his damage output.
Like, these small changes help him a lot. These changes covers 3 of Dan’s problems which are hitconfirms, mid-range and character specific combos after st.hk.
I like this. I really like this. These changes and some tweaks on lk.danku and Gadoken is all I would need in Ultra.
EDIT: Of course, changing/removing cl.lp would be nice too, but that’s for another day.
Actually, now that we have this move tweak tool, we could probably change it to be useful instead. How about… give it +5 frame on hit instead of the +2 it got now. Gives Dan a 1-frame link into cl.mp. I’m not sure how useful that would be.
Dan is getting nothing, just like he always gets
close thread special, cancellable ex gadoken frame trap number 1 will be buffed by 000000.2% and this will be like so good make Dan win Evo 10 time sin a row eh ya nerd carnts
Some guy named Gurpwnder (maybe he’s here, I’m not sure) asked me about some Dan changes on eventhubs. Here’s a little completion of my opinions on Dan changes…
I guess it would be good to have the close-marginal of cl.MP a bit further away so far.MP doesn’t come out as easy.
Increased horizontal range on nj.HP and nj.MP may be good, so they work easier for the whole cast. Also, for some reason, neither KRK FADC > H Danku or KRK FADC > nj.HP work on Rose. That’s really annoying, I’d like that to be fixed, especially the H Danku option.
I’d like to see a reduced recovery on air L Danku.
And a last thing… that would be really cool…
Dan has no reliable anti air normal, he has to rely on his KRK all the time. This is very limited when opponents jump from afar and doesn’t do a normal, baiting you to AA with KRK and making it whiff, resulting in a full punish on you. Dan needs another anti air option.
I was thinking… crouching taunt! It could get like an expanded horizontal hitbox compared to the way it is now, and have a good hitbox that doesn’t get stuffed easily. It should give Dan meter and do no damage, like the way it is now. ONLY: It should be dash cancellable. To like, give you mixup setups. It would be so cool. I was thinking maybe make it jump cancellable as well. The crouching taunt would cause an air reset, just like the way it is now, and giving Dan the option to dash below the opponent right after.
This would give you another option when facing opponents who like baiting your uppercuts with anti airs, and bring a new interesting dimension to Dan as a character.
