Just to be clear, you only switch when you LOSE. So if Damdai’s Gief beats my Ryu he can’t switch to his Sim to play my Chun or something like that. Which ever char. you pick first you stick with until he or she goes down.
And no worries. You haven’t been put into pool play once so its not like you’re missing weeks and looking forward to suspension. When you can play, you play!
Silver Rain 007, I have some a few questions for you man.

Is there a way to tell us before the deadline what Freaky Friday will be? I would have done this one but I didnt know what it was going be like. Maybe you could get some more ideas from us members on different types of things we might try that would benefit everyone.

It seems like Freaky Friday is just another Monday but with a twist. It seems like you get punished by not doing Freaky Friday and that people can actually leap frog you in terms of points accumulated. Maybe there is another way or thing you could do to tie in Freaky Friday to the league. It just seems like people like Damdai/Thelo have such large leads already from Monday/Tuesday play and by playing Friday’s just adds to their difference.

Also in regards to points, when does this actually end? Of course I dont want this to end but is there a date? Or do you have to get to a certain number of points to be entered for the final pool of play?

I think it has been about a month (that awesome man) and pool play has been random for the most part. Do you ever see the participants being ranked? It’s obvious that Damdai and Thelo to name a few are definitely leagues above many of us. It just seems that if only 2 or 3 people from the pools can make it because you only take 8 really means that only 6 people have a chance and depending on your pool you might as well forget.
These are just things I have been thinking about for maybe you to think about to tweak your league. You might want to open this for discussion and maybe have a counsel with your two top leaders in points and see what you guys make for a final decision.
Anyhow the league has been awesome man. Hopefully more people join man because this has been a great experience. And enough can not be said for how you are running this. Truly a phenomenal job and very well organized.
Well, thank you very much. I’m going to respond to your queries in order.
1.) I am thinking in the future, I will announce FF twists in advance, maybe Wednesday morning. My wife (to whom I owe much) raised a similar concern with me, and hearing you say that I think there is something to be said for that concern, especially since most people didn’t sign up this week until Wednesday anyway.
2.) I certainly understand your concern about point totals and league standings. I want to have a system that encourages people to play as much as possible and having a point system, standings type mechanism seems like an effective way to do that. I’d certainly look at giving less points out or something, but I don’t want a league event to be for nothing either… I’m sure there’s a happy medium somewhere and I am always open to input from league members as to things we can do differently.
3.) Well, the WWL is broken down into seasons. I originally thought that each season would last about 3 months and then we’ll reset the standings. Every season should end with a large open tournament, available to anyone who wants to sign up, not just league members, but I don’t think we’ll do that in the first season because I really should have put that out there sooner, and I don’t know how well the admins would take to me posting an HDR online tournament in their forums without any prizes… or for that matter who many people would sign up. I figure this season will end probably the 2nd or 3rd week of December, give people a couple weeks off, if they want (or if they don’t, we’ll just start anew) and then come back the first week of January with Season 2, and speaking of Season 2, there are adjustments being made and I think people will definitely like some of our future changes.
4.) Pool Play was designed from the beginning to be random. I mean there are going to be top players who it doesn’t matter who their competition is, but for alot of us other players who aren’t quite EVO top 8 material but in comparison the other 90% of HDR’s competition pretty good, it provides a sense of drama, “Will I qualify this week?”. I would certainly look into having special events for the top players, maybe like a Champion’s pool week. If I were to do that though, I’d announce that pretty far in advance because we’d want to record as many of those matches as possible for the HDR Community at large. The other thing I would consider doing would be running two tournaments one for top qualifiers for max points and then maybe another tournament for those who maybe just missed or something. Some weeks I’d like to run tournaments for top 16 players and other things like that, its just with my current technological restrictions (AKA using Xbox Live to run tournaments) that’s difficult and I found out my new laptop is on backorder and might not show up for another week a half… But I think we are going to move to a chat room type functionality so that people can play their match, go to the chat room, report their results and I can announce the matchups there.
5.) We have a break spot, you want it you got it. Just announce your team, and remember your main has to be the last character.
6.) I value everyone’s input, I NEED everyone’s input. This league has grown far beyond my imagination. We have 34 players playing 258 matches on Monday… in North America alone! When you add in the WWL HDR EU which is another 134 matches, that’s 392 matches that are being organized via the WWL. That doesn’t even include the tournament matches or Freaky Friday which pushes the total well over 400 matches organized in a week. This wouldn’t happen without the wonderful ideas that you have put forth, so I hope that not just you, but everyone would bring their concerns forward, if we can address them, we will, if not I’ll try to explain why, but this is a place where everyone’s opinion is valued and I appreciate you bringing your concerns forward, it will only help make a better league in the future!**
