Welcome new players. UPDATE: Links to Facebook/Twitter/GTASF chat room added

Yeah, I saw but unfortunately I can’t make it

Hi everyone, my name is Dien and I am COMPLETELY new to the Fighting game scene. I played fighters as a little kid, but moreso in a casual way. This year, with the release of SF4 and the help of one of my friends egging me on about Street Fighter, and finally my girlfriend dropping the money to buy me a PS3 Hori Real Arcade Pro 3, I decided to take the plunge and switch from online PC Shooters competitively and make my rounds into Fighters. This’ll be my first year(month even) competing and I am looking to give my all into this. I currently reside in Maple/Vaughan, ON so all the players within the area, (Nguman is one) let me know if you are ever interested in getting something going, I have a car and am willing to travel to make things work.

I am a hardcore gamer, and I have a natural greed to win, so as such my mentality is always “Play to win”, so you won’t catch me playing a game half assed. Either way, I want to continue to gain experience as much as possible. My PSN is d1eN, please be gentle as to I am still working my way through the ropes.

I will be attending the SoGo BarFights and others to come, so if you happen to be going, see you there!!

Hi, I’ve browsed through SRK since I started playing ST a few years back, never really posted till SF4 came out, Never ever checked out the Canada matchmaking section till I came across the tournaments in the search… Here I am now, and the past few days…

Unfortunately, the only new-gen Console I Have is a Wii, So, All my SF experience is on PC -> GGPO + GFWL.

I’m all about competition, the first games I got good at were puzzle games… and there isn’t any competition out there… (Only after I found out about 2DF and puzzle fighter got added to 2DF I finally found competition, and it’s still quite rare)

That’s why I started playing Street Fighter, I figured If I’m going to get good at another game, It better be a game popular enough so I’ll always have competition. And that’s when I started working on my street fighter game… I’ve played since I was maybe 6 years old but you know how it is, I wasn’t hardcore then.

Hey Unessential! I’m actually under the same situation with you when it comes to fighters; not having a current gen for SFIV and BlazBlue and relying on GGPO and 2DF.

Anyways, got into the fighting game competitive scene like 2 or so years ago when Funland was hot. Too bad it was far from where I live so I did not play much; other than the Woodbine mall where the only thing it has nowadays is MvC2 (why in the flying fuck did they take out the 3s machine and replace it with shit like Tekken 4?). But now, starting university, I want to get back into the arcade scene despite the console taking over the playground starting with Pmall, the occasional Playdium (just for Tekken 6) and some other place I’m not familiar with.

So all in all, nice to be in the Toronto fighting game community

just saying wsup ive lurked a cpl times, comin out of hiding lol

anybody down for a few games of marvel vs capcom 2 tonight?

For people that aren’t aware, the GTASF also has a 24/7 chat room. It is called #gtasf on the Efnet Server within MIRC. If you’re not familiar with how that program works, you can access the chat room through a web based client called Mibbit. Simply head over to GTASF ON EFNET (please take a second to bookmark it). On the dropdown menu you’ll put in EFNET. You put in your username (no longer than 9 character) and put in “#gtasf” for the channel. After that you’ll be able to access the chat. It’s a great way to co-ordinate casual games online and many players will attest it’s a hilarious way to spend time as well.

Hmm…I don’t like going on and on so I’ll try and make this short.

Basically I’ve been lurking SRK for a long time, I had a few other accounts before this and with all of them I kept forgetting the password (thankfully not the problem with my current account). I’ve been following SFIV’s competitive scene in the US/Japan since the game came out and now finally decided to get involved with the Canadian SFIV community. Competitive gaming wise I’ve been busy with SSBB and Starcraft and only till recently I’ve found the time to give SFIV the attention it deserves, so basically you’ll be seeing me around a decent amount now.

Anyone got any spots to recommend in Vancouver? I’ll be there for a week or so. Just wondering if there is anything going on. I do see some activity in Toronto and Montreal and that’s good, but anything for Vancouver?

As the GTASF has an irc channel for those interested in joining the winnipeg channel we are located in #chipdamage on efnet(same server as the gta channel).

possible to get a link on main post to :

http://montrealstreetfighter.com/

Also just an FYI, mtlsf.com is planning on running some podcasts featuring our top players (IE: Henri) as well as some blogs written by me and the community.

Everyone please check it out!! Feedback will be much appreciated. A podcast collab between gtasf and mtlsf would be great as well…

Thanks

This thread should be called welcome new GTASF players … lol

Canadian fighting game players/groups & Twitter

I’m creating this thread as an experiment. There is a growing amount of players not just within the GTASF but also right across Canada that use Twitter. It’s been my personal feeling that the site is greater enjoyed when you not only have tweets to follow but also have people following you so you’re not updating to no one.

What I’m asking for is twofold.

The first is that if you don’t use Twitter, please give it a shot. If you don’t want to go nuts with updates, then don’t. However, there is a lot of news both from the players across Canada and from various major gaming organizations/sites/etc… that are worth following. You can sign up by heading over to TWITTER. The sign up is honestly a minute tops. You basically pick a name and you’re set.

The latter is asking if you currently use Twitter (or if you sign up after reading this post) to please leave your Twitter name in this thread so other players can follow your updates.

For those of you that use MIBBIT TO ACCESS MIRC there is an option to follow your twitter account from within the same window so you don’t even need to follow through their website.

As I said, this works best as more people get on board. I hope everyone at least gives it a legitimate shot. I’ll be updating the subsequent post with more names as they come in.

Much thanks for your continued help in growing our scene,
Justin
