Thanks for the advise!
Enough, I think. My mom is obese, and I’m not, so her eating advice shouldn’t mean much to me (she suggested it could be the source of the problem). I have skipped breakfast or lunch a few times a week, but never both on the same day. She never wants to cook dinner, so I’m usually on my own all day as for what I eat. I just thought it could be a probable cause…

Click a muscle along the right-side then it’ll take you to a page that lists exercises and stretches for the choice.
What’s a regular day look like? Meals (when and what you eat), activities, and whatever else that you do throughout your day.
Cereal for breakfast, sandwiches of some sort usually for lunch, and home-made burgers or fast food meals for dinner about twice a week, and otherwise maybe more sandwiches or Hamburger Helper of some sort…snacks are eaten all the time and sometimes as a substitute.
Basketball and lifting on monday, wednesday, and friday mornings for three hours (school), and more basketball on saturdays and tuesdays for a few hours at the YMCA if I can make it down there.
I’m not sure, but I’ll take a guess or two. One could be you’re not hydrated enough throughtout the day. 2nd guess is you need more nutritious meals to supply your body the energy it needs for the work it’s doing (bball & lifting).
Started running recently.
Went running today…and my lower back hurts. Anyone got tips/explanations on this?
Edit: Holy crap…that…is a freak coincidence. I’ll just mind my business and read back a coupla pages:-)
lol, don’t do the same mistake I did!!!
Key things you need to know.
Use running shoes and do some stretches! ;o
I’m of the opinion that lower back stretches are next to useless. Your lower back muscles are stabilizing muscles, not movers. Adding range of motion to these muscles isn’t helpful, and is potentially dangerous.
Ideally, if you’re going to run, run on grass. If that’s not an option, your 2nd best bet is the treadmill. Treadmills have a built in ‘bounce’ that absorbs a bit of the shock. Worst thing to do would be to run on concrete.
Frequently, lower back pain is used to generally a term. Any soreness, stiffness, and DOM’s in the lower back is associated with “lower back pain” the injury. It makes sense, seeing as how this is a highly injury prone area of the body, one that people are near paranoid about in this day and age of living to your 80’s. Does the pain go away a day or two after you run? Does it go away immediately after you run? If any of the above are true, then I’d focus on strengthening your core to absorb and transfer the impact of running better.
i actually dont even think lower back stretching exercises is used primarily for stretching your muscles, but used more for relaxing the lower portion of your spine up (if that makes sense)…a lot of the time my spine cracks when i do lower back stretching and just feels a lot more flexable and loose…

So its been a week since my back problems started… and they still continue.
Ah, I’m really worried about this point.
I really can’t tell if I have gotten better or not. I wanna say I did, but I still pains me the same way it did before.
Hrrmmmmmm… =/
I think I’ll say “fuck it” and just try working out tomorrow.
I would say take a week’s rest. If it persists, see a chiropractor and/or physiotherapist…
Is there a way during a cutting cycle where you can get your shitty/puny muscles bigger and then the days you aren’t working out just diet well and do lots of cardio?
I talked to my friend about it.
I think I found “the answer.” I was jogging for the most part and thought, “Hey why not do some HIIT? Just sprint a little for fun?”
Running fast for me = leaning forward.
I think when I lean forward, I DON’T lean forward and instead hunch/bend forward. AKA I was curling up and hurting my lower back.
Is the answer Michael Johnson style running? Don’t lean forward ever?
I feel you; thanks. I’ll try to be more conscious of my nutrition, I guess…
ok my srk.com brothers help a nigga out here.
i been pretty slim and toned all my life, but since working in an office for 3 years, i now have a HUGE gut.
im thinking of purchasing some gym equipment to loose the belly. do you think a treadmill is worth it over a bike?
also, what tips can you give to lose the flab. as i said, im fine all everywhere else, except the gut. sort it out!
thanks!
Started walking recently, and man I feel great.
I always give a treadmill thumbs down. Get a bench, free weights, and you’re good to go! No need to run inside when you can run outside. Heck, even jump rope, cycling, swimming, basketball, or whatever is fine. A bike’s cool cause when the weather outside is nice, you can go places on your bike. Save some cash on gas and get a workout in at the same time. A balance of weight training and any cardio you prefer plus good food choices and you’ll lose a decent amount of fat.
get whatever you will use more, and what is comfortable to you
you could get the best bike, but if you aren’t eager to use it it’s not gonna do you any good
cardio + diet + limit your carbs/refined sugar/sweet drinks/basically non-nutritious junk food get rid of it
you can’t lose weight in one area, it just doesn’t work that way, you gotta lower your whole body fat to see a difference, so don’t bother doing tons of crunches or something like that…
You can’t target weight loss, I wholly agree with. But the same way that the body naturally stores fat in men mostly in a specific area, the gut, I would think one would lose more fat in the gut than anywhere else. If 60% of your fat is centered in the gut, unless weight loss is naturally targeted (that might be the case: the body draws energy from fat in certain areas of the body and tries to preserve others), then you should be losing more fat in the gut than anywhere else. What are your thoughts on this? Anyone know the localization tendency of male fat preservation? Those of you that have lost weight, did it seem like the gut was the last thing to go or the first?
