Weekly Fighting Game Club - currently playing: Sailor Moon Super S

(continued from the “tiers for shitty games” thread)
This thread is dedicated to picking one obscure/bad/unkown fighting game every week and trying to take it seriously. We report our findings about the game, characters and engine, and at the end of the week we try to create a tier list (who doesn’t love tier lists?)
Like a book club for odd fighting games, if you will.

IRC channel for discussion and setting up netplay:

List of potential games to play, sorted by system. If you want to add something or feel something doesn’t belong(too well known), just say so.

I think this is a great idea and I’m all for it. I’ll find Tough Guy tonight and mess around on there.

For Tough Guy, google [ abandonware “tough guy” ] and choose the second result. Use the DosBox emulator(this can be a bit tricky, not as simple as most console emus) to run it. Turn up the cycles and overall power of the emu, or it’ll lag I think.

There’s these two maybe also, for PSX:

But let’s just pick something and get playing

Probably better doing it with games people can easily netplay in.

SNES, Mega Drive, Neo-Geo and old random arcade fighters.

These can all be played using P2P so would be easier to test and have fun with.

Woohoo, got Tough Guy. Now to find a DOS emulator for Mac that will let me use my sticks…

This should be pretty great.

looks to be a contender for next week.

I actually still own that Jurassic Park fighter , it was alright for a 3D fighter as far as I recall, just slower than usual.

I think the PSX emus have netplay similiar to SNES/Megadrive emus.

But yeah, getting Tough Guy up and running might be hard for some and there’s no netplay. And no combo meter. Maybe not ideal. That said, here’s what I found so far though:

I was rocking Gerdon(awesome dude, the rock star guy), I found those moves:
QCB+P (massive diagonal projectile)
QCF+K (upward knee attack)
SRK+P (forward jump with punch)
D,D+P (sweepa! slides across the ground)
hold P+K = Loads power bar, don’t know how to use it… Found no supers.

PSX games will require a large enough download too often from a torrent site with very few seeds.

lol yeah, I’m finding DOXbox to be really confusing.

Yeah, maybe it’s too large to download. Let’s go with NES/SNES/Mega/Arcade now in the beginning at least.

Anyway, who wants to be The Decider?

Man, that match is boring as hell!

You could do it Mr.Whitefolks style by counting the frames to check if your combos are legit. I’m sure people are hella lazy like me and wouldn’t go to such lengths.

Cool thread.

How about an SNES fighter for the first week? Easy to emulate and find the games. Along with Doomsday Warrior there is also

When I clicked the Doomsday Warrior link, I noticed this game in the related videos:

Hinokakura -

The official website - http://r-region.net/

There’s a bunch of stuff known about that game though. Also it has its own thread here: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=154665&page=6

I’ve played Hinokakura before, that game really was not an enjoyable time.

Is this well known to anyone? Looks pretty good. For SNES I think.

Works with me. Call that the game for week 1, “Ossu! Karatebu”

So be it! I’ve already got the game and is starting it up in zsnes :wgrin:

Weekly Fighting Game, GO!

I put a link to the only faq on gamefaqs up there in the first post, so we can learn the basics.

So far I’m liking Sakuma (the guy in red with a pipe and a ponytail).
He has some great mobility with his moves. He’s a bit like a Vega/Claw type character, but with a divekick-throw and a really weird sliding attack that just looks awesome.
I think he’ll be my main, but I’m gonna check out some more characters too.
