I guess I can’t really say anything about if I liked his commentary or not. I’m usually too busy watching the gameplay to listen to anything their saying unless it’s something constructive like UltraDavid and Chen’s commentary. From what you guys are saying, I’m pretty sure I would ignore his commentary.
Well, he’s unintentionally funny, but that’s not really something you use to overlay onto a video game tournament.
I mean, when I was watching Xian and Daigo have some FT7, I tuned in to watch that. I didn’t tune in to listen to Zhi accidentally spit out that he’s a virgin to tens of thousands of people and then spend thirty seconds in complete silence out of embarrassment. It’s honestly kind of distracting to the match.

I’d hate for this discussion to stray in that direction, but yes. There is an effeminate anima do his body language and overall appearance, as well as in Gootecks. Their overall demeanors around each other were also… eh. Still, I didn’t form an opinion either way, it was just an impression. Not that it matters.
But Champ, Xian, and Ricky (not really discrete either) as well as a couple of the asian guys (including Zhi, which apparently I was wrong about) are not as ambiguous.
Y’all do realize that he’s doing it all just to please the stream monsters.
Heck, I was sitting with him and ZomgACrayon (off camera) during the afterparty stream and we were laughing our asses off at the stream monsters whenever the commentary cam was off.

I think the amount of good Zhi does for the community far FAR outweighs his inappropriate commentary. Both as a translator and simply a mediator between the asian scene and the american scene are invaluable.
On another note, Mike Ross commentary is too godlike. He may not have the best technical knowledge but the guy knows how to bring the fun and the hype without sounding like an idiot.
Well Zhi sounds like he knows ALOT about asian and American culture. He may sound unprofessional most of the time but like this guy above said he definitely plays a role on the scene unlike me or most of the people complaining about him. He know’s about old American cartoon characters and references so many things only an American would know. He also speaks Mandarin Chinese, English, and Japanese… I speak English and Spanish but I would easily trade my Spanish for Japanese or Chinese._.
But then again English, Chinese, Spanish are the future, while Japan is diminishing. Rambling … sorry. Lol

He’s one of four commentators I enjoy listening to and, as a recent stream monster turned player, I can tell you that commentators make or break streams that have potential to bring in new players. I remember one viewer last weekend making a comment along the lines of “I love fighting game streams. I don’t even play them, I play Starcraft but your streams are so fun.” You bet your ass Zhi was 75% of that.
Regarding the South East Majors stream in particular, he and Crayon were just having fun. And yes, she thought it was funny. As a matter of fact, whenever Zhi tried to make it serious, she would try to steer the conversation back to the “akwardness” you guys are complaining about.
