Sakura’s got a pretty nasty stun game going since she has a pretty awesome crossup/mixup after an ex tatsu combo (jump mk, dash under, c.hp->whatever). Plus ex jump across the screen is a really nifty way to punish fireballs from full screen.
Man everytime you blink there’s seemingly a new tier list. I saw another Japanese tier list that said that Seth was the second best character in SFIV. I’m beginning to think they release these to be silly. The only one I would even really pay attention to right now (even though it doesn’t account for the console characters) is the tougeki tier list. Which is this one…

So yeah it’s missing the console characters, and so if you want MANDEL’S OPINION, this is what MY tier list would look like as of right now…
S (essu classu/toppu te-ah)-Sagat, Balrog, Zangief (kinda not sure about putting Zangief here to be quite honest.)
A-Rufus, Blanka, Bison, Viper, Dhalsim, Akuma, Seth
B-Chun Li, Ryu, Ken, Abel, Honda, Vega, Sakura, Cammy, Fuerte, Gouken, Rose
C-Guile, Gen, Fei Long, Dan
I placed these people from my own personal experiences combined with what I’ve seen (videos, results). The reason I even placed Zangief in the essu classu is because of the perks he has. But, I don’t really see the tourney results to warrant him being up there, again that’s how I feel about him as of now. Yes, yes, I do think Seth is a good character, I do think Vega is mid tier, I do think Rose is mid tier. I think Gen is only that low for now as people are still figuring him out, his life along with his steep learning curve made me put him that low. He’s got good shit, just play Trace fuckin Prewitt and you’ll see for yourself. Again this is simply what I think, and along with that, I think any of these characters are tournament viable. It simply all depends on you.

Fools shouldn’t hate on HD fei long that much. Yes he sucks compared to old version but I’m finding his new rekkas to be beefy as fuck. Who needs chicken wing when you hp rekka goes that far.
Glad that my ranting is at least amusing. :lol: My biggest gripe right now is my s.hp with fuerte whiffing on Ken when I’m trying to RSF. It’s retarded how far back he recoils, it’s like ST chun! Especially after a focus crumple. I want someone to help me train my Fuerte. I need to channel my random.
EDIT: On that matchup guide I severely disagree with Fuerte’s matchups like 3-7 for zangief and guile? Yeah right. I’d like to play a good zangief set, but from what I’ve seen you knock him down once and you rape him with okizeme. Guile though? Give me a break.
I think Gief is good, but not really worthy of real top tier status, A-class seems fitting. He does awesome damage, but the SFIV engine still allows players some breathing room against him. IMO ticks are hella weird in this game, that is if you can even call them that. His SPD range seems to extend HELLA when an opponent sticks out any limb, which adds to the “wow” factor and may make gief come across as extremely dominant. I am sure if I watched replays of gross ass SPDs, we would come to rational conclusions as to why they came out.
I will admit, it feels good to finally pick gief in a game and know for a fact that I have the potential to fuck people up. That is real hardbody status.
I agree with the M. Bison (Dic) matchups on the chart that Rick posted, but IMO Dictator is even or maybe 6-4 against Sagat, but I probably haven’t faced a super abusing sagat yet.
I lost most of my faith in Fei Long today playing Chris, lost like 5 in a row or something.
He has amazing pokes, like his st mp which kills lariat. But he just doesn’t have enough damage and his specials are kinda lacking, even if they are quirky.
i think guile beats a scrubby fuerte cuz of cr hp and if you do the run back and forth shit and try to jump in he can flash kick but honesly i dont play fuerte and i barely play guile anymore so come to coles and we’ll run some trial and error type shit. like any match though its player vs player. if you dont know how to play against someone then you’ll probably get dominated. my hardest matchup is m rog vs anyones gief but rog CAN win that match so im workin on it. also my characters vs blanka or sagat
Don’t worry, she’s not going nowhere. After 6 months straight of Vapor, though, it’s nice to have an alt for a change of pace. GGs to Frank & Julian. Thanks for the Bison practice. Sorely needed.
I have yet to play a truly good Guile player so I can’t say for sure, but Guile’s problem with Fuerte is that flash kick doesn’t guard well against crossups. Cross up tostada press rapes flash kick so you just have to block his mixups, which makes him scary. Shotos are annoying because you DP and it will trade if I don’t time it perfectly, no matter if I crossup or not (SO fucking retarded >_>). Regular sonic boom gets shut down by EX dash into slide. You can’t knock fuerte down well because if I’m playing right I won’t get hit by many flash kicks, and his sweep is so easily FA’d. Then again fuerte is so random that any match can go any which way, so matchup numbers like that don’t surprise me.
I need to main fuerte longer before I can really run any sets to see if matchups are true or not. I have character ADD.
In other news, I REALLY REALLY HATE CAMMY :mad: I’ve never beaten her unless I’m playing Abel. I have no fucking idea why but she just fucks me up. I just lost to a (good) Cammy player who did cannon drill, blocked, into throw. Every single time, I tried to throw her. No tech, not once! WHYYYY? Or how about when she does a cannon spike up in the air, when the clock says 99. You wait 'til 96, you jump, AND YOU STILL FUCKING GET HIT. WHY IS THE HITBOX STILL ACTIVE. She’s practically on her way down and it STILL fucks you up. That shit is stupid. Her spinning knuckle? That shit is so god damned slow that I see it and I’m like what the fuck is she doing? Then by the time I realize, I have to block it. This player I played actually hit me with it, and then combo’d into (1 hit) ultra. Could it get any more embarrassing? ONE HIT and she still recovers in time to block. What a stupid ass character, she’s not even good and she fucks me up. Hahahah. This rant brought to you by the Camouflage Cunt.
Its hilarious when I play Vega and wall dive into Cammy’s cannon spike. Its been in the air for like three seconds, and Vega just decides to fly right into her and get smacked down.

But yeah, cannon spike can be crazy. When I was in my Bison phase, I would bait out cannon spikes so that I could do ex headstomp, but due to cannon spikes funky ass arc and the fact that it’s out for 9 years, it would always beat my ex headstomps. Very gross if you ask me.
About Zangief he has hella things going for him. It takes most characters a longtime to kill him while he can kill hella fast. Most life in the game, great normals, great anti airs (crouch lariat is GIDDLICK!), best ex move in the game. He’s sick, I hate him.
Awesome Team Seattle session last night, I felt like I learned a lot. What was the final count, like 150 games? Highlight of the night:

Get em!!! The thing that I was most hyped about sfiv was having ALL the communities come together for this game, and unfortunately the only community that has really stepped up the most is gasp the Marvel community. Yeah we do have a small representation from other communities ( jwo and co. From tekken, airthrow, and elias from ST, riki-oh and gimpy from smash), but I was really expecting more ppl. (at the first tourney @ zach’s I was assuming 40-50 minimum.
Ppl are failing to realize that we have legends and monsters up here playing, and to top it off they are great teachers and are willing to teach. It just saddens me the most aren’t taking what is offered here.
Looking for expert level Chun teacher, will do work!

Nasty, Gief can still do crouching lariat? I didn’t think lariat was broken before but now I do. I just learned about that shit in ST, and I was tearing fools up today in HDR. I wasn’t even tick throwing, I was just poking with s.mk and c.hk, they’d get scared and jump, I’d crouch lariat them. Gross. Nothing is as bad as losing to SPD, green hand, SPD, green hand infinite. Nerf throw loops. God if only Sirloin worked on this game it would be perfect. He is so insightful.
