"We must get back through the portal and CLOSE IT!" Doctor Strange Team Thread

I played Ultimate last night and Dr.Strange was by far my favorite new fighter. He’s got amazing playstyles that can be either rushdown or keep away. But not like how Mags does it.We were all saying “Strange is like Magneeto but he’s NOT like Magneeto” Throwing out the rings then teleporting for a mix up was great because of how long the rings stay out before they track.

But Dr.Strange’s biggest tool by far is his beam counter super. There was one point where I was fighting Wesker/Doom and while Wesker was wave dashing in Doom covered him w/ Plasma Beam. I did the counter beam super and it took Dooms plasma and hit them both! From there I X factored into the Book super which lead to a Happy Birthday. This worked on Ice Storm too, no one used Phoenix so I couldn’t try it against her super.

Im going to try Vergil (Raging Slash), Dr. Strange (Bolts), Trish (Air Trap one) when it comes out as I feel bolts would help vergils mixup potential the most and trish will help me make a wall with stranges’ projectiles while i set up for the mixup. Id personally like to see what u guys think about bolts assist on this team, i know alot of people doubt its use due to crouchability but wouldn’t that help a vergil overhead teleport mixup?

Well I got too different teams I’m gonna try out. The first one, and the one I think will be the best, is Strange/Magneto/Sent. Got Drones to help him set up graces and Sent will be safe from projectiles and projectile supers because of Dr. Strange’s counter hyper. Then I’ll have the fastest beam in Disruptor paired with the fastest teleporter in the game for really fast mixups. Its gonna be sweet >.>

The other team I want to try out is Strange/Vergil/Magneto or some variation of that.

I’m trying haggar with him cause I think he can cover hagger and hagger can cover him, RoR to punish projectile attempt on him someone wants to mash c.l you can Tele behind them or above making them stand into haggar assist, if they arent near you and you have meter you can call him and safely cast graces and DoD. As for my anchor I was think strider with vadja so people can’t super jump hagger all day, and I just use him to soak up damage and build meter for lv3 xfactor orbs strider, what do you guys think?

I wanna try Hawkeye/Strange/Sent. Hoping drones will give enough cover to set up strange’s projectiles. Hawkeye just looks like a one man wrecking crew.

Some small characters can stand under it. Like wolverine and RR, and I’m assuming others.

sent is exactly one partner i think will work EXTREMELY well with strange. drones seem like the PERFECT assist to help strange setup graces well:

strange calls sent and does grace… opponent waits and beam supers strange… strange cancels grace into anti beam super = beam super isnt really viable against strange when calling sent. so, opponent will have to fight back the old way giving strange free graces as they super jump them or whatever.

sent on point:

can use stranges bolts assist to clog up the airdash/dash route since strange bolts hit VERY high. opponent will either duck to avoid, leaving them open to sent flight overheads, or they will block high taking HUGE blockstun time and allowing sent flight crossups with S.

characters that can dash under bolts will counter this strat. as well as beams. answer:

against beams play smarter, against low dashers, bait the wavedash with backwards flight h,s.

looks powerful on paper and may be a good duo, dhc synergy may be off so might need a middle character between sent and strange depending on who you want to run on point and at anchor… dont sleep on on point sent.

Running Strange/Taskmaster/Akuma

H arrows for firefights + lets me mixup in situations where I may not be able to setup my own projectiles. Task is a solid point char as always.

Tatsu still derpy. XF Akuma still silly.

Spent most of the morning messing around with a friend online with Strange/assist/Strider(Vajra). I really love the Strider teleport assist with Strange. At long range, it does a great job of hindering your opponent’s attempts to get in and if you hit them out of the air and get the hard knockdown, you get plenty of time to toss out some grapes and set up your offense.

RR seemed to work very well in the middle spot with Pendulum assist. Teleport + speedy ass log is scary mid range and the wallbounce makes for an easy follow up. Unfortunately I’m not sure how viable it is to keep RR there long term as the team’s pretty fragile. I’ll probably try some more practical options in the middle slot once I get over the new character hype (like Doom beam)

Im thinking about running Strange/Hulk/Sent. Anyone had a chance to try out Strange/Hulk

I wanna use the midnight Sons (Dante | Ghost Rider | Dr. Strange) but Im having a difficult time thinking on which assists to use for the team. I literally just thought of the team because I play all three of them from other teams; Dante is coming from spenser/Taskmaster, GH coming from Firebrand/hawkeye and Strange from Dorm/[FONT=Times New Roman]Shuma. Once I get home, I’ll go in the lab to see how they gel.[/FONT]

Yeah I’m glad my new team that I picked has Strider vajra assist because for a character that already has a bunch of tracking projectiles…having another one that’s basically a high priority homing dive kick that hard knockdown on air hit is perfect. Give him nice lockdown after forcing them to block or get hit by something and keeps people from running away to the top of the screen.

Yeah I think Strange/Strider will be a strong combo.

Ive been playing that team online only for the last three days and I can tell you the synergy is amazing with that team. I was using Shuma (Mystic Ray) on point, Dorm in the middle (Dark Hole) and Strange (EoA) as anchor. I usually rush down with Shuma and play zone with Dorm. Strange can do either of the two. After several matches I decided to switch up the assists. Gave Dorm purification and Strange (BoB). Even though Bolts of Balarrak are slow, They hit twice and if I start it up while using an Aerial Mystic Smash with Shuma to get in / close, the opponent can move. Shuma and Dorm always had great synergy (former team was Doom, Shuma Dorm) but Dr. Strange make it even better. Now that I think about it, if your serious of playing this team. Strange (EoA) should be point, Shuma (MR) in the middle and Dorm (DH) as anchor. I say this because of when I played online, people would zone out shuma when he was on point and Dorms assists cant do anything to help out and Dr. Strange’s DoD and BoB, you have to be tricky to use them.

I then used Dorm on point, shuma then Strange (that was earlier today). Where as Shumas assist help out Dorm, Strange was just sitting in the back till I use EoA as a combo extender or chip. Now at work thinking about it. IF running with this team Strange HAS to be on point. They wanna zone you out? DoD with Shuma’s Mystic Ray. Or howabout Medium/Heavy sword with MR? If the beams are too fast. Counter hyper. They try to get close. Illusion (Back + heavy) with Purification assist. Yeah. I think Strange on point with Shuma in the middle and Dorm on anchor is the best way to go with this team.

I’m using the team in my sig. Joe on point with Voomerang assist, Hawk with poison shot, and Doc with bolts. Doc bolts will help Joe get his offense started, and poison tip will be nice to tack on that extra damage as well. The main draw of this team is so I can poison and slow the opponent at the same time :smiley:

Hawk and Doc seems to have good synergy at this point, they’re super easy to DHC into with their homing supers. I have a nice relaunch combo with Hawk using bolts in the corner, too. I’m not too worried about Doc as an anchor, I think he should hold up ok. His mixups won’t be as strong without an extra assist projectile in the mix, but I’m quite confident he can handle himself. Once I understand him anyway o_O

In vanilla Zero was the character I was most looking forward to playing, mostly because i enjoyed him so much in TVC. As such he was the one character I continued to play throughout my evolution with the game, finally settling on Zero Dante Doom. In Ultimate, Strange is that character. He is one i’ve been waiting to get my hands on since Dorm was announced for vanilla. Now that Dante has changed enough where i have trouble playing him, i’m putting him aside for Zero Strange Doom.

This team is all about supplementing Zero with Plasma Beams and the Eye of agamotto for relaunch and lockdown. Obvious synergy in DHC here, Rekkoha to SoV, spear flame to SoV, hell, anything to SoV lol. Eye is really nice for extending a ground string and even relaunches (just don’t have the timing down perfect yet) and is also nice to restrict the movements of a character coming in for a few seconds.

However the assists on this team (hadangeki for zero…which is really almost an arbitrary choice as i rarely use his assist) don’t benefit Strange that much so i’ve been toying with the idea of building a team around him. I mean come on, he is the Sorcerer Supreme after all, he deserves it! Not really sure who i’d throw on it just yet, its more been an idea than anything i’ve put a lot of thought into.

Another idea i have for a team is…team Popped Collars: Iron Fist/Strange/Dorm (not exactly a popped collar but his Alt at least has it). I haven’t really tried anything with Iron Fist, but besides Iron Fist’s difficulty getting in, which i imagine i can help via dorm and strange assists, it should work out pretty well.

So I’ve been running Frank(Cart)/Vergil(Dash slice thing)/Strange(eye), and once Strange is in with both vergil and frank available as assists, I can’t really go beyond using cart along side with teleport for mix ups or using daggers of denak, vergil assist, teleport behind for mixups.

How can I make strange work better with Frank’s cart or Vergil’s dash aside from using them for mix ups?

Dante and Strange have a wierd synergy but its good… I found out some thing by accident too. I play Dante on point, Ghost rider and then Strange on anchor. I called out strange assist (EoA), then used Dante’s Rocket double ( the one where he pulls you with the rocket launcher) to grab zero over to me and he got hit with the EoA. I was like :wow:… SO I did it again against his Nemesis, but this time I teleported and started Dantes magic series… I am now going into the lab.

Dante pretty much has synergy with any character in the game.

This is a team I’m considering if Iron Man doesn’t work out for me. Some things you (and other Zero/Strange players) might want to know:
-You can do the “steb combo” with Eye of Agamotto (after knockdown call assist, OTG with M Sentsuizan, S, TK L-Lightning, jump Buster, L-Lightning, TK H-Sentsuizan, Rekkoha)

-If you DHC from Rekkoha to Spell of Vishanti as soon as Rekkoha starts up you can link another Spell of Vishanti and DHC back to Rekkoha after (credit to Evil_ToasterofFP)

-Unrelated to Strange, but I would go with Ryuenjin assist just because on crossover counter it is invincible and you can cancel it into Sougenmu into a full combo.
