@therook
OK. Should it be in one thread, or multiple?
I’ll make an okizeme thread.
Oki thread sounds good to me.
It’s been very aggravating trying to punish Ryu’s :lp: DP with U2. It like…nonpunishable most of the time on block, and on whiff it’s still nearly impossible to get into range to land the Ultra. yeah :mp: DP is easier to punish but it’s still not fool proof.
I am however is finding another use for U1. In her wake up game, you can really fuck with your opponent into not making them mash reversal DP’s willy nilly with U1 stocked cuz her meaty fireballs will juggle them. You have to pay attention on how they get hit but it’s safe to buffer the motion just in case it does hit correctly since you’ll get near max damage, hell if your bold you can just use the Ultra itself to punished whiffed DP’s off a well timed backdash.
Still working the kinks out of some setups since I have to take into account many different reversal options…
I’ve been fiddling with a lot of meaty LMT set-ups that lead to a CH set-up as well. I might need an East Coast fellow Poison player to hit online training with me.
Yeah, that ain’t gonna happen. U2 just doesn’t have the range; with some really unsafe moves you can dash forward once and it’s still not enough.
It’s really aggravating. Block a full Ultra, jump over a Super, broken heart, get punished. It tears me up because half of the time I know Guy’s U2 would have worked.
That being said, when you know you can punish with U2, it makes for one hell of a deterrent.
Her backflip is pretty good. Has quick recovery and its good to mix it up with delayed wake up, quick stand, and normal rising.
I like it, wake up dp’s are the only thing that made me hesitate doing mix-ups on a shotos wake up. Idk why I never though of doing this before lol.
As far as meaty LMT setups go I found a few:
DP FADC cr.HP LMT will hit super meaty. Pretty sure its reversal safe but I’d need to test against 3 framers.
EX rekkas jump cancel j.LP (very late in jump arc) LMT.
EX rekkas in the corner, cr.HP canceled into LMT. This one his super meaty. If you do it early you can whiff the LMT and throw if you’ve conditioned them to block.
In other news, been messing around with her DP as an anti air for a bit and I’m very hesitant to use it unless they’re right on top of me now. LK DP is the easiest to anti air with, you want to do it pretty late like… hit with the spinning legs near ground level when they’re about to land. You can get trade LK DP into ultra pretty easy. MK DP is by far the hardest to get to hit. HK DP you have to do a little earlier but it seems the easiest to hit with and its also the only one that has a hitbox on her legs when they’re fully extended. I’m sure some of you have seen how people can jump INTO her DP and not get hit. Doesn’t happen with HK so much.
I really think her DP is only reliable as a grounded reversal. Unless its EX I’m just too scared to use it as an anti air since the timing is so ridiculously tight, as well as the spacing.
noteworthy though, if you trade LK DP and don’t have ultra, you can get all 3 rekkas to combo as well. (or cr.HP into meaty LMT or HP AE if thats your thing)
Guys, i’d say forget about U2. It’s just not good. The grab range is ridiculously small, it’s 0.65 lol and the startup is bigger than Guy’s Ultra 2 (Poison’s is 0+2, Guy’s is 0+1). The only viable use for it is to punish safe jumps because at least it has a lot of active frames for a grab Ultra (4 frames). So even if the opponent screws his safe jump it’d still hit. But since her U1 is much better there’s no point in wasting slot with U2.
I’ve tried the EX Whip of Love juggle into U1 midscreen in the entire cast. Hits almost everyone but whiffs on: Honda, Dudley, Cody, Guile, Fei Long and Adon.
Too bad it whiffs on Guile
Also, regular projectiles nullify the Ultra 1 projectile. I did a U1 trying to punish a regular sonic boom. Unfortunately the projectiles traded.
Found something useful today when I was sitting in training. Might be common knowledge I guess…
Poison can cancel out of some useful normals with her backflip. cr.HP is one, which could be a good way to maintain distance if you’re playing keepaway. Another is the second hit of cl.HK, which could be an easy meterless out on block against a character you aren’t afraid to jump in on after knockdown.
Do you guys think Poison is capable of winning a fireball war against characters like Ryu, Sagat and Akuma? I’ve tried and always seem to get beaten.
Ryu isn’t too bad, you have different versions of projectiles you could use to help approach him if he’s only trying to keep you away. Sagat and Akuma on the other hand can be a lot more frustrating :V
This could be useful, I like to jump in with j.HK and if I both hits of the cs.HK I go into hard rekkas for a pretty good combo. Would be nice to do some mixups, maybe catch them mashing lol
Played her all night. I don’t think I’m quite there but I didn’t feel like I was just running constantly hoping to get bits of damage. I can at least make a real game of things. Fun. :3
Sagat and Akuma win the fireball war. That’s for sure.
I don’t think you’re there to win the fireball war. I think you’re there to build meter for the ex lmt. Maybe you can’t win in a straight firefight(I haven’t really played any of those 3 to test this) but you should be able to knock them down and start your hp ae oki into frame traps.
Ryu is difficult but possible, oni, eryu and sagat is not winnable
What are you guys doing against people who are focus happy? I’ve had a hard time dealing with people who just let it rip mid range. Even if they don’t catch anything and it’s blocked it’s still free pressure, but I’m not really sure how to deter them. LMT doesn’t really seem like a good option, oftrn just getting caught by the focus midair.
If you are outside of the attack range then use hp fb and either use that as a shield to poke with or to push back the opponent. Ex fb seems to work the best because it’s quick and where it appears on screen is really far so it gets a head start.
Poisons own focus is pretty good for countering other non lvl 3 focuses. It has good range and steps back to dodge aswell
