Game is made in Japan. Poison is post-op.
I think that KBG should be used more to punish limbs or deal chip damage for very low health opponents than as a consistent anti-air. They definitely changed HK KBG from the first version of this game… it’s a lot slower, but boy does it really hit up front now. It didn’t do that before… it was like a vertical pillar attack. Now it hits up front and vertical, but of course only if you hit early. If you anticipate early and know a jumping opponent is going to be jumping over you, KBG is good to anti-air with. If the jumping opponent will end up just in front of you, KBG isn’t going to hit.
For KBG itself, I wouldn’t rely on it too much. People will obviously bait it to punish you since you will have tons of recovery. You have to decide at times if it’s worth half a super bar to FADC to safety, but I heard even those kinds of attacks aren’t safe nowadays, right?
I guess it’ll take a lot of anticipation on our parts to figure out what attack to anti-air with. As for crossups, I have no idea how to counter those when it comes to Poison normals.
You guys are correct on your observations on her lack of a consistent anti-air (for now). I played her since day one in Japanese arcades, and trying to hit people jumping in with KBG, cr. FP, stand HK or stand MP has always brought me mixed results. I think cr. FP is her best option, but I’m never surprised to see it completely whiff at times.
Forgot to add, saw someone say LMT is good for pressure, but I would be cautious using it against anyone with a DP. I don’t know if it’s a true blockstring, and I have been DPed out of it by Ryu players recently. Then again, I only played a handful of times since the update, so that may have changed. EX LMT may be close to a blockstring if used with certain attacks, but not sure.
Anyone know how to get that Alt?
I ran through the damn live store searching for it…Well for all Alts.
One’s a preorder bonus and one comes from having a SFxT save.
Trying to anti-air a Ryu jumping in with j.HK is an exercise in frustration. If it hits at all, it will trade but half the time it will just whiff and you’ll get punished. I kept forgetting about s.MP so maybe that will work better. I know it works really good against divekickers and Dee Jay
*Anti air his j.HK with c.HP
I’ve been finding that meaty attacks into EX Love Me Tender is great for blowing up crouch tech, stand tech, LP mashing, etc. It’s a great little trap that’s safe if it doesn’t connect, and allows you to retain pressure, but I can definitely say, I blew up 100 people with this.
Using st. HP is a meaty is really great of course, because if the st. HP hits, it combos.
I really like using love me tender to stop back dashes. I also like using it to stop rolento from rolling away since it catches him in the air and his backdash.
Anyone try using cl st HK as a sort of anti-air/anti cross up? It seems to work well against Guy when he tries the elbow drop very close to you
got some use out of that vs. elena
it traded quite a bit tho
Her damage is low on her normals. Her jump ins take off only 90. Her hardest normal is 110. She relies on a lot of 1-2 frame links for everything. And her rekas scale each hit.
@DanDan What do you think about AA LK KBG trade?
Sometimes I seemingly get beaten clean instead of trading… How solid do you think this is to rely on this?
Seems to be a good idea. 40 damage ain’t nothin though
Doing a crouching autocorrect (df, d, db), late KBG could work? I don’t know if I could do it on the fly.
I’ve been in training with her for a while, there’re some nice stuff with Love me Tender. Point blank you can do cr.lk, cr.lk (or lp according to the character), Love me Tender M and it’ll actually hit as a crossup on crouchers. It also blows crouch techs and avoid standing grab. And it’s safe on block so not much risk in trying it out.
Maybe we’ll find a reliable AA move at some point so you don’t put yourself at risk w/ a DP.
It’s something that may or may not happen frequently depending on how the player decides to punish incoming moves and as time goes on.
It’s like Sagat/Roo’s DP trading the same way. Not something to rely on, but hopefully players recognize when it happens and take advantage.
For anyone who wants to know, after studying the video, I don’t think that this is the case. If you do it correctly you should trade; if you get hit, it means you input it too late.
The difficulty would be waiting that long period and precisely timing late. Maybe it’ll feel different in the field.
I really dislike that her stuff is multi-hit compared to them. Mistime it and you get 30 damage (and possibly disadvantage if they tech)… Eh…
I’m not having the best time landing even the apparently simple links into stand forward…
Low jabs into stand forward is more consistent but on paper the Dawtanigan bnb is easier ~ low short, close stand short to stand forward. I’m not used to hitting links fast…and you have to be on it…to land it right. been practicing it for an hour now…it’s still 50/50. Edit: I can’t fathom why I can link low shot, stand short into crouch fierce far more consistently though…fuck it…im using that now.
Are you guys p-linking or just used to the timing?
^ I actually like that combo more as well and that’s what I’ve been using because you can OS tech into both LKs and plink while you do it as well. It does the same damage as cr. LP/LK > cr. LP > st. MK anyway.
Maaan, I just wanted xT Poison in SF4, why’d they have to fuck up everything? ~__~
All the combos feel hella suspect coz shit whiffs with her all the time, from cl.MP to cr.HP to rekkas, just great…
LMT is DPable on reaction and the EX doesnt track
U2 has hilariously bad range and its jumpable after the flash, not to mention crazy recovery where I’ve had people jump back and jump back in and I’m STILL recovering…
I can honestly say I wish her DP didn’t exist, shit is less reliable as an AA than Vega’s flipkick, bitch be breakdancing at the start and shit only to whiff like a derp… I remember it doing it’s job in xT so idk wtf they did to that to make it total ass. Plus her Dp fadc barely lifting people off the ground and super close where you’d sometimes dash under and the U1 lookin like it hits OTG and shit only adds insult to injury
Blanka is an asshole, seriously fuck that nigga
I thought Vega’s claw is BS coz the full claw doesn’t have a hitbox but no, check this bitch’s whip out! shit is just there for show coz HALF the fuckin’ thing doesn’t have a hitbox wtf…
I’m just overflowing with salt right now… I really want to say that she’s good but man her inconsistency is really getting on my nerves. Everything is character specific like I’m playing BlazBlue or some shit
xT Poison was pretty terrible…it’s a godsend that she wasn’t the same in this game…
from what I’ve tested…she does have alot of character specific shit…but thats because SF4 hurtboxes are really fucking weird and the reeling animations work different for some characters…
yeah, linking close strong into far forward isn’t going to work on Rolento…normally…but if you jump in with say jump roundhouse…the link will work…fucking stupid but thats how somethings are.
Poison does alot more damage in this game…something in xT…she was lacking alot. The tools she has now are better “overall” than in xT but yeah…somethings in xT was cool like EX LMT being overhead and tracked…but it now being fast enough to combo into…I’d rather have a 300 damage punish than a specific fireball punish…which it can still do…just not from full screen. I digress, there are a bunch of things in USF4 that makes her better than her xT incarnation…I’m willing to say xT Poison was her in Beta…for like the longest.
Her flaws…will become more apparent as the days go by though…but it’s to be expected.
The only thing I don’t like about some of her links are that the best ones, like low short into stand short…is range dependent which is bad in a match and you get far short instead of close short and can’t link into anything or just cancel the normal into a special…ugh…far short is a garbage ass normal. Her DP is not reliable outside of the EX version or using it as a reversal option( :mk: is good to use for that ). And her Ultra 1 gets scaled hard under most circumstances. Still, I’d rather have this than xT Poison…
