"We finished practicing now?" Cody Match-up Thread

Hmm, ok. Weird. I tried it from both distances, when it crosses under and when it doesn’t.

Works on Akuma as well

Dude, just look it up, someone found this unblockable ages ago. Peeps, you need to check stuff out before wasting your time on known setups.

-inhales and gets ready to waste breath- Tips on Guile? I’ll wait for the overwhelming amount of responses.

Offline, and from max range, you can react to booms with your ex RK (but for the love of me I can’t do it online…).
At certain angles, j.HP beats most of Guile’s AAs.
Once knocked down, he is free, there’s nothing he can do but block. If you grab him in the corner, you can do the shoto unblockable (it’s also unblockable against him).
You can slide or do cr.lk x CU after his boom followed by HP (unless he leaves the smallest gap, but that’s space dependent).
I suggest going into the lab and testing ways to beat his boom traps from various ranges.
Also, there are two types of Guile players. There’s the type that will almost always flash kick when they have two bars and there are those who will yolo flash kick at any times. You need to quickly recognize what kind of Guile player you are facing.
Also, you do need to know that although they play Guile, most of them have very little patience (they’re used to people coming to them) so if you play super lame, you might find that they’ll try to rush you down – just enough so that they get the life advantage --, make sure you punish them for it. Even the best guile players may lack patience! But careful, at certain ranges they can throw a light boom and if you try to block it, they get to jump in on you for free.

General tips on Fuerte and Dictator would be fantastic. More so Bison, since I see him more often. Both of these characters seem so damn random. It’s hard for me to start my mixup and even to punish things like run slide with Fuerte and Bison lk Scissors. I play online for PC, btw.

On fuerte, there’s nothing I can tell you. That match up is a complete mystery to me.
Concerning Bison, there’s not much I can tell you other than it’s a footsie based fight, just know your ranges, I can’t teach you that just by writing it down here. Light Scissors are 0 on block so both of you can do cr.lk and at a certain range (not point blank), you most likely will beat him or trade.
Punish blocked Ex PC with ex RK, safe jump with OS cr.MK to beat every option apart from teleport (you’ll have to OS lk RK for that) and keep your frame trap gaps as tight as possible. They love to mash on cr.lk so if you go for a 3f or more frame trap, you’re gonna lose.
Also, in the corner if you grab him you can whiff a jab and jump mk and that’s unblockable. If you combo into ex.RK (that’s corner only too), dash twice and jump with HP and it’s a fake crossup.
One last thing. You can easily zone him with rocks since you can easily AA him. If he tries to focus dash them, do a cr.MPxRK or a crack kick to punish that attempt.
That’s what comes to mind right now.

@Joker Shade
Just a few more tips:

In the Bison match-up, cr.lp buffered into MK Ruffian is very good. Spaced right, cr.lp beats st.HK, st.MK, scissor kick.
When punishing ex psycho crusher, EX Ruffian is always guaranteed. However, if the PC isn’t done point blank, MK ruffian will also punish. You can also punish it with U2, but the timing is not free.
When OS:ing cr.mk, you can look for a teleport and on reaction do U2.
In corner from EX Ruffian, jumping HK also hits as a fake cross-up.

El Fuerte:

El fuerte is really bad at handling pressure, and without meter, he literally can’t do anything to Cody’s pressure. This is a match where I understand that the Cody player might feel a bit scared to approach, but you really have to. When you corner Elf, be ready to neutral jump with fierce in reaction to him trying to escape the corner. El fuerte players will also pretty often throw out a EX Guacamole leg throw when pressured, as this is his only invincible EX move. Instead of OS:ing it, I just usually punish it with a cr.hp into what ever, but again, you need to be ready for it.

When El Fuerte scores a knockdown, don’t panic. The damage output is really small, and he has to guess right many times. Mix up with backdashing, focus dashing, MK ruffian, and blocking. Ex Zonk will get you out of his every meaty option except for blocking. Just relax and think.

Also, practice your punishes. The charge move and the air slam from Elf is U2 punishable. When blocking the slide, practice inputing a crouch tech xx HP CU, so that it will tech his grab attempt, and punish an unsafe slide.

This is from the top of my mind, it’ll get you started.

One thing I’d like to point out is that it is impossible to slide under a LP Sonic Boom using cr.MK. The timing required so you don’t get Counterhit combined with the incredibly short distance traveled of cr.MK and the slow travel speed of LP SB means Cody will always end up standing up inside of the SB.

cr. LK xx CU while he’s following his boom? I’ll have to test it. Honestly, I’m having a hell of a time getting in on Guile. Once I’m in, I can usually steal the round, but he’s murdering me trying to get in. EX Ruffian I know about, but that’s like the only tool I can use outside of luck.

I guess I should have been more specific. What are some tips, set-ups, strategies on getting in on Guile? What are the openings?

Also, which unblockable? Is it this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI2lES095CA ?

@Ramma

Patience is the key here. Feel free to block a lot of sonic booms. Try to get the sonic boom rhythm down, and jump in at a time where he is forced to block risking getting counterhit out of his anti-air.
Also, study his pattern after he throws out a boom. If he walks up to you do a normal, use cr.lp to buffer a MK Ruffian and you will beat his normal, or a regular zonk. Also, if he uses f.HP, it’s a free sweep for you for the knockdown, or cr.hp into anything. I usually go for the knockdown.
The strategy is to push him to the corner, where you will straight up body Guile. If you get a combo in the corner, use EX Ruffian to do the fake cross-up, regular cross up with forward jump HK/MK.
Be ready for the counterhit with f.MP into U2. When pressuring him, you can with a read use EX Zonk to get through the flashkick, and punish with U2.
Never let him jump in on you, always punish with HK ruffian or jump back something, just don’t let him get out of the corner.
Guile players tend to walk back when pressured. If you notice this, after two jabs do a sweep. Works wonders
I’ll update this list when I think of more.

Yeah that’s the one! But it’s less lenient timing-wise than it is against shotos.

The Ex ruffian dash dash j hp also works on Guile in the corner, but be careful because you don’t want to give up the corner if he knows how to block it!

I don’t have trouble against decent sim’s. But when it comes to high level Sim’s such as AD Lucky yours truly Chat De thunder and TS Sabin I get torn up. Can you give me some advice?

Let me know what I’m doing right and wrong

@ManiacMike313 Well, for starters, don’t post the video in all the threads, use ONLY the critique my cody-thread. Thanks!

OK you got it.
