you don’t even need to eat the chip from headstomp, just b.mp the initial hit.
B.MP beats all jump ins from my experience… even EX Headstomp…
That is fine, until Bison gets to you.
If he puts you in the corner there is not much that you can do - you cannot EX Bingo(as it is too slow), you cannot cr.MK(as it will be beaten by cr.LK), you cannot jump out(as you will be hit with HK).
Yes, for every character being in the corner, specially against Bison, is the worst place you can be. My advice is to just block and take the chip from SK. Most Bisons will get frustrated and dash and throw you so be ready for that and the worse ones will try to cross you up, which is your cue to dash forward or cr.mk out of the corner.
When Bison has you in the corner he’ll either spam LK Scissors or throw out s.HK to catch back jumps. After you block the scissors it is safe to throw a cr.lp xx MK Ruffian because it is out of range and will counter hit his s.HK plus catch any forward dashes and give you space. Also, throw a sweep if you think he’ll s.HK. You can’t really do much about cr.lk xx LK Scissors or cr.MK xx LK Scissors though.
But best advice is really never let Bison put you in the corner in the first place.
Ya I really hate this matchup I think it’s one of my hardest. Btw what do you think are cody’s worst matchups?
Cammy defo. cant think of any others… people say its akuma but i dont think so… just dont fall into vortex and punish teleports. when u play against cammy u just cant do anything when she gets on top of you… she just dances on ur head.
Cammy, Seth and Rufus.
Probably not bad matchups, but I have trouble against/don"t like: Ibuki, Fuerte, T. Hawk, Chun-Li.
I also hate Ryu, but you get so much experience in that matchup that nothing surprises me anymore. Fuck 2k12.
T.Hawk is in Codys favor in paper but personally I have trouble as I just don’t get enough experience against them, and when I do I usually lose. I try to be very patient and throw lots of rocks. heh.
General tip I can give is to never anti-air with b.mp, but with HK Ruffian instead. T. Hawk’s hitbox is very weird in the air so most AAs wiff/miss.
For escaping pressure, jump back jab is pretty good, and it’s the only normal that hits as an instant overhead, I believe. Punish condor spires (? not sure the name, the condor thing on the groudn) with jab xx ruffian.
And learn from the master himself:

Basically don’t press buttons, Hawk has better normals from that range and play reactive, abusing rocks. Hawk can’t punish light CU on block, but he can EX Condor thingy between cr.lk xx LP CU depending on range (not a true blockstring).
PS.: I know momochi used a lot of b.mp in that match but I swear it always misses for me. Maybe there’s a range where it can be used.
What I mean by b.mp being bad:

Actually, he just did it too early. At certain distances (the ones Momochi uses them), you can’t HK RK so you have to do the b.MP. But Sasaki just did it too early, expecting an early jump attack from KOG. The reason why RK is better is that if you do it early enough in Hawk’s jump in, you can beat both his normal jump and his condor dive and you can easily do a MK RK kick afterwards for free extra damage.
vs cammy i found that cr.mk goes under cannon strike easy on reaction and you can punish with a throw its srsly makes a huge difference in the match up, because now she cant pressure you for free so continue to zone her out a few good anti air juggles and shes a gonner. its still hard as hell but it got alittle easier for me after this.
oh and has anyone got any tips for seth he a nightmare now he just pulls me in and i cant stop him from pressing buttons. little help?? im startin to think this is worse than the akuma matchup now.
seth feels a little like fuerte and sim. you can’t avoid ALL mixup and hits. you’ll get hit sooner or later. it’s important to keep a cool head and to don’t fall into pressure traps. you can literally end the match with one or two combos; be patience and wait for an opening. seth does not that much damage, and has not that 50/50 akuma oki.
you can also slide under his sonic boom to avoid chip on a distance. he can’t really jump in if you don’t press anybutton since you can ruffian him out of the sky quite easily. any tandem he does has a GREAT risk involved for him aswell.
after akuma (the statement “just don’t get knocked down” made me lol btw) personally it’s still chun for me. I simply can’t handle her too well. not too much problems with cammy tho. she has a great rushdown game but it’s not as heavy to avoid. her zoning/poking game is also not that good. her best poke (s.hk) hits high btw, and can therefore be zonked.
thanx man i rely way to much on b.mp to aa and its getting me blown up because as certain ranges his cross up/dive kick is really hardto react to anddive kick beats it clean so i’ve found my self jump back lk to knock him out because ruffian sometimes goes under him because hes so quick. so what do you think my game plan should be? keep him out? rush him down? i know its no so black and white but he builds meter so fast that one he gets in he can do damage so its just a stressful match meh. i feel you on the chun matchup its hard but i play a good chun frequently so its a match i know pretty well.
i know im just a lowly scrub but heres my advice - bad stone just out side her cr hk range and crack kick that wench to get in she has a hard time hazanshooos over it and gets beat out pretty frequently, throws are good to because you can set up a good safe jump OP of em but im sure you already knew that . just dont let her get that game going or youl have a hard time getting out just remember her damage out put isnt great so just keep your cool. lol easier said then done i know and never ever fake bad stone her ultra it does not work.
oh yeah and just to let everyone know i beat an A+ rank oni yesterday 4000pp 16000bp rank 220 (gt over most heads) he was mega salty too my finest moment by far so thanks for everyone who has ever posted your help does not go unappreciated!!!
I’m quite confident in the matchups where I have to keep people away, like Rufus, Seth, Makoto, Abel, etc…since I mastered the cr.lp xx MK Ruffian awesomeness I love those matchups, but I still struggle on matchups where I have to get in (either as a general gameplan or because the other guy has the life lead) and the opponent has a good low poke, like shotos, Sakura, Juri, Cammy, heck even T. Hawk has me clueless when he’s spamming cr.mk and cr.hk. Does anyone have any tips against these pokes? I guess the other issue related is that when I do get past them, I’m not patient enough to make all the life paid count.
be more patient duh x) in all seriousness, there isn’t a magical tactic. f.hk and s.hk work against some low hitting pokes, as does c.lk ch fishing (buffer dem ruffian / cu). also, vastly overlooked, f.hp is actually a pretty decent poke - a bit on the slow side but has a good reach. c.mk has the most active frames, stuffing quite a few pokes in their startup. neutral jumping is also a good tool to use. against some characters focus dash is a great option aswell. don’t forget lp rocks aswell.
Lol, I never considered Makoto difficult to play against until today. Gotten mauled hard by 3 different ones, and I’m not sure what to do against her anymore. Her normals seem far superior even to Cody’s and I don’t know if it’s frame traps or just damn good priority on them, but I feel as if I can’t hit her at all because everything I do gets stuffed. Jumping in is impossible and she can do that annoying overhead in the middle of a blockstring no problem. She also has that command grab which she can link to ultra, so even defending is scary. What do I do here? I’m stumped. Can’t defend, can’t attack, can’t do shit.
Don’t let her dash in is the most important thing, imo. buffer mk ruffian on cr.lps and cr.mps. Throw lots of rocks/fake rocks…if you do it at the proper distance you can s.hk her focus dash in attempts and hk ruffian jump ins.
Once she’s in, you better off not mashing your way out…take your guesses and try to reset the game. EX CU is a decent reversal because it is immune to grabs and has a little of invincibility that allows to get past some light normals which usually have few active frames.
All hayates are punishable on block (cr.lk xx mk ruffian), EX is a little hard.
OS U2 on knockdowns, beats all of her options.
The hardest part about the matchup for me is antiairing her… j.hp seems to beat b.mp a lot of times and she can change her jump arc with the axe kick thing.
cammy match up is impossible… i played many different cammy’s all over europe and most of them beat me almost for free… cammy has an unblockable set up now vs cody when on hard knock down she dos mk or something then jump on a non cross up and ends up crossing up… but thats not the worst… just cant play cammy’s… learning anti cammy character just to beat a cammy player.
I guess it’s nice to hear that I’m not the only one that has a ton of trouble in the match-up. The only thing I know how to do is to zone her out and don’t let her in. Of course, just doing that is sometimes an issue…
And as for that unblockable set-up…couldn’t you dash out of it or Zonk it?
you need to keep be calm. simply wait till you see a gap to reset momentum. if she has no meter she can’t do ex cannon dive which is the only real threat that needs to be considered. you can beat normal cannon dive with a mere s.lp and hk ruffian, even in a trade situation you’ve the advantage. also, jb.lp is a magical tool in this match as you’ll stuff all her pressure. be aware of close range spikes tho, if you’re getting too predictable. try to fight against your own urge to tech if you keep getting hit by dive kicks. even tho it’s kinda hard to ‘do nothing’, rather get thrown a few times instead of eating a high damaging combo with followups. tho, she has one of the crappiest throw ranges and really needs to be in right your face. high hitting dives also have no frame advantage upon landing. you can safely throw her or counter hit any other move.
