"We finished practicing now?" Cody Match-up Thread

So, uh… Is anyone doing anything with the front page?

Yes, I am doing something with the front page. I’ve been busy finding out alot of info for some of the unlisted matchups myself sorry. Have not really been on SRK.

If anyone has any info or tidbits versus Ken , Blanka , Sim , Cammy , DeeJay, Lemme know whats up, Im working on them and viper right now.

Would it be better that in the case if they were too obvious with their throws to ex cu a throw attempt since you can get thrown out of ex zonk? Sometimes after a forward throw I empty jump or throw out a jumping roundhouse right after to bait out an srk or if they expect the bait I mix up a throw and if they are expecting a throw Ill throw out an ex cu. Sorta like the the back throw setups.

ofc also ex cu. just sayin’ if you can predict something, react to it with the tools you have. ^^

So has anyone complied any of the info I missed? So I can update the matchups. Im looking for a couple of you jailbirds to help catch stuff when im not around.

Hey guys, why not use a site that lets everyone contribute to the matchups info, instead of putting it all on one person. We could use this site 2dmoveset.com to post match-up info, the link could be added to first post by Arkayne17 and the content and questions can continue to be discussed here. Just trying to help out.

DeeJay- I always have a Zonk knuckle held. Usually on HP because MP is to important. His jump has that silly arc to it, so instead of trying to Anti Air every single one of them, dash under or cr.mk under them. It puts Cody in a weird spot that you can cover up with a cr.hp. I also use a lot of st.mk to get the spacing for Zonk just in case he wants to toss out pokes. I don’t really go for stun, more for knock down at any chance I can get to play with his wake up a bit, even with his flash kicks. LP Rocks once or twice to condition(Of AAs, Wake ups, Whatevers), then go for the Rocks Fake while he’s rising. Overheads. cr.lk. f.hk. cr.mk. Force that high low. If only because he’s going to be wanting to hold downback.

Oh, and EX Zonk will go behind a wake up Flash, of course. Have fun with that.

Haha, thats dope Mr. Cruz.

I never delat with that matchup much but its not that scary in theory since hes guiles retarded cousin.

Are you trying to say dealing with guile is as simple as deejay

I have read all about the Balrog matchup, but I know you can throw balrog right out of some of his punches; Does anyone know which ones you can throw him out of and which ones u cant?

I think you can throw him out of the straight punch and the TAP.

Secondly, Is there a tipoff you can look for to see if the specials are going to hit high or low? or do you have to block correctly on reaction. thx

^this also depends on the range. you can throw every punch afair, but if he does a straight (+ various other) from range you’ll only feel his fist  only his overhead you can throw every time.

edit: block every punch LOW [aka in crouching position], you’ll have plenty time to realize if it’s an overhead and react according to it. [make overhead / straight on dummy and let him use it, you’ll feel + see the difference and be prepared for it]. howevr be ready for a teach or c.lp/headbutt after a whiffed upper. it recovers ultra fast as whiff [which it’ll if you’re in a crouching position].

you can throw all rogs punches ex or not up close the thing with cody is his walkspeed so it’s best to dash in and grab.overhead and close dashes at pretty much all punishable with cr lk + whatever

Heh, I wouldn’t call dealing with Guile something simple, but yeah. A few things match up. I also force having LDD as a trump by FADCing the first few Sonic Booms if he wants to toss them at me. I just go right in against DJ. Also, I run Zonk more because I can take that sweep of DJs. Guile seems to hurt a ton more. I think Guile is a bit easier to AA as well.

i love guile on the floor, that’s where his only real weakness lies. as for deejay, his jack max is a pain in the ass to deal with on wake up.

what is jumping FK?

Fierce kick…my fault…i think I meant roundhouse or high kick.

with guile its kinda hard even in the ground game ur not gonna win unless ur playing shitty guiles he can boom up close way faster then you can rock and his recovery on his boom will mostly beat out ur ultra attempt after the sand eats his boom giving him time to block.

I have found a few things helpful…one is that if he knocks you out of range wit his block string ur still in good distance where you can over head but he can’t hit you with his stubby fuckin arms.

also advanceing with rock lk ruffian to close distance as well as stop the " I walk with sonic booms" bullshit.

standing heavy kick also might be viable against some of his pokes despite how slow it is and at certain points it’s better to just out rock him when you find urself against those pussy ass guiles who chose to turtle

I would never say guile is easy but Deejay is easier than guile because hes a weaker ver. of guile.

I feel that once in on guile its far less stressful, he has to make much more effort to get out than you do to stay in.

cr mk>>>>>>>>>feis chicken wing… on wakeup , afterwakeups, whenever…

I actually disagree, considering Deejay’s EX Upkick BLOCKS OUT EVERYTHING IN FRONT AND BEHIND OF HIM. They’re both tough match-ups but I definitely don’t think deejay is a “weak version of guile.”

Lp bad stone > Lk Ruffian is a beginner tactic that new Cody players use to catch players off guard. Considering most guiles will be holding db (down back) anyway this will not work and considering flash kicks 3f startup means there’s no ‘safe’ distance.

I’ve played many good guiles and the best way to deal with guile is to play patient and wait for an opportunity. Fight booms with bad stone. If he starts throwing lp booms and following, charge a zonk to catch him when he tries to poke you. When you anticipate a boom use ex rk to close the distance and destroy him with your frame traps (making sure you’re prepared for reversal flash kicks).

Try not to use zonk to go through booms, the recovery is too quick and if he blocks you’ll get punished. At best you’ll get a trade. Speaking of trades, a useful trade I use in this matchup is f.hk vs boom.

Occasionally, I’ll walk out of guile’s poke range and when I anticipate a boom I’ll use f.hk to get a knockdown and open up guile for cody’s offense. Another useful trade is sweep vs boom which is the same scenario as f.hk just slightly closer range.

To be perfectly honest reading this and being in each scenario is quite different, experiencing good guile
Vs Cody matchups is where you’ll pick up the knowledge.
