We already defeated Sheng-long! The Akuma Video Thread

i know, i noticed this too. tokido is just too fucking good.

It probably works because he landed it CH and confirmed it, though I have to verify in practice mode.

I think as I go back and watch he does it with extremely good spacing. By getting just the tip of the attack he lands on the last frame which gives a +7 advantage.

I think I just had an Akuma man crush moment.

It was due to counterhit, not spacing. He does it twice in that match. Walks up, fakes throw, hits low strong and gets a counterhit then links stand RH. One frame link counterhit only, but since akuma cannot duck the 2nd hit I suppose it is a safe thing to try in that match.

Did you also notice that after a lk hurricane he was often resetting with a c. short. That was the wierd part to me. Never seen that, it was popping the opponent up kinda high. Wonder what all the options are there.

That’s right. cr.MP has a tight link to the double roundhouse on counter hit only and it’s not confirmable. Would usually have very limited viablilty, it appears Tokido was using it as a tactic specificly to beat techs where they’d expect a tick throw. Gives him the best chance of a counter hit, but still not without its risk as a general thing. Probably reserved for specific characters as halcyonryu was saying.

Yea I hadn’t thought about the counter hits.

The c.LK reset is sort of interesting because it pops them right next to you. .

The c.LK reset appears no different than the c.LP reset.

Actually there can be a slight difference from the frame data. The c.LK has 2 active frames and 9 frames of recovery while the c.LP has 3 active frames and 9 recovery. In addition the c.LK has a slightly better range.

So the differences are very slight, but there has to be some reason they preferred to use it so I may explore this more when I have some time.

In terms of how it resets there is no difference. I tested.

Tokido just seems to prefer using a crouching light kick. I’ve seen him use it over crouch jab in other situations.

Yes the direction seems to have no difference. So other than personal preference or the possibility of a faster recovery I can’t think of any other reason.

It’s probably not the recovery because the recover frames according to event hubs frame data is 2 frames faster on the c. LP. (7 vs 9)

It appears to simply be preference.

Oops I was reading the c.MP recovery frames not the c.LK

Then yes I can’t see any reason besides preference.

hmm i think u’ll get a more complete and orderly collection of videos at street fighter dojo…

Fuck this matchup. Seriously. How is it 6-4 me when all I can do to attack is tiger knee air fbs? she can walk under/backdash all your jump ins, her ground attacks outrange yours, you cant throw ground fbs because of hazanshou/ultra threat and you cant do shit to her on knockdown because of ex-sbk. This is stupid. I either have to focus fish for a hazanshou or time her out to win, and the focus fishing loses to her jump fierce fierce.

You can safe jump the ex sbk pretty easily, it comes out relatively slow. Try doing that and punishing it on block a few times. If she backdashes out of jumpins then you have to option select a sweep or a demon. I don’t like that matchup either but those are the things I am trying to incorporate, if my execution wasn’t ass I don’t think I’d have a hard time, unfortunately it is

i feel your pain man, just fought a chun li where is was almost impossible to Focus her attacks. Close up she uses a lot of quick hitting high priority light punches.

Safe moves like c.hk and the flip kick from far. On wake up, she does the ex sbk.

Eventually i got to winning way but it wasn’t fun.

Some things i learnt from fighting a good chun:

  • To handle her wake up ex-sbk, i use dive kicks. Time it properly, and you will each trade hits. Sometime u even find u win it. Even if you trade i think its a good trade off, 1 hit from her ex-sbk is not much, and she gets 110 (i think) from ur dive kick. However, chun has just spend 1 stock of super. Both gets knocked down and you are both opposite ends of the screen which is favourable to you.
  • Without ex stock bar, her anti air is really terrible, just abuse that. Rushing her down until she has a bar for ex, then reduce aggressiveness.
  • Learn which are her safe moves, and don’t bother countering it. Her c.HK is so safe that its almost not couterable from far. So is her flip kick.
  • Not sure about Focus fishing but that Chun I play was super safe, and it was really hard to counter.
  • c.HP doesn’t really work as AA against he jump-in kick which beats c.HP almost everytime.

Just watched. 2 things jump to mind.

  1. Srk her more. You finally started in the last round. She was jumping at you a lot. She’s so floaty that she should be getting raped every time she jumps in.

  2. Demon flip kick more on her wakeup. Learn the spacing and you should be able to stuff her ex sbk every time. For example after you throw her you can jump forward hp air hado > hk demon flip kick and stuff it every time.

It’s not a fun matchup though. That’s for sure. Tight reset btw starting at 2:11.

^chun li’s sHK and sHP are beastly anti airs what r u talking about? Also the chun match is incredibly boring for akuma. It’s all about the air fb and normal fb zoning until she has ultra then its all mind games. cHP is your best anti-air option for her but a well timed focus actually beats her double HP jump in because your focus at certain spacings ducks one hit for free lvl2 combo. Focus bait her sweeps too.
