He just walks half screen and does point blank sweep and fucking LANDS it! I wish I got that much respect from my opponents, lol.
If you’re playing against an opponent that actually KNOWS how to play, knows the shoto matchup so he knows he shouldn’t be jumping around like a Mexican Jumping Bean, it’s actually pretty easy. It’s when you play against an online scrub that abuses lag, that knows your reactions are gimped because of the poor netcode that things get complicated.
I like how -6 always gets into the opponent’s minds like @ 3:00 where he walks up, crouches, the opponent expects a sweep, he walks up and throws! Awesomeness!!!

Just wondering, against rose how do you time the lk to make her spiral whiff? I’ve been messing around with that against rose but I just mash it when I think she will be doing a spiral. It doesn’t work that well because I do it incorrectly many times resulting in me getting CH by one of her normals. Is there any trick to this?
You don’t really need this, though it looks hella cool if you can pull it off like Tokido does. Mainly, against Rose I look for the knockdown and once that’s acheived you abuse the safe jump options Akuma has against her. There’s just nothing she can do about it. After fwd throw: Dash x 2, j.HK or DF Palm owns her Soul… Throw (haha!).
I’ve beaten MUCH better players than myself who main Rose by just running basic Akuma setups after fwd throw on her. She’s easily zoned and her AA options are limited. If you play it smart, this matchup isn’t that difficult, though I’ll admit that until recently, I thought it was nearly impossible because of the priority on some of her normals and her really gdlk backdash. Not to mention her ridiculous U2…
VS Rose I don’t fireball. Its pretty funny how much that one tactic denies her strategy.
I really liked -6’s use of fs.lk to make the spiral whiff but instead slugged her with fs.hp on recovery. Speaking with Toxy a while back he mentioned how that fs.lk to make spiral whiff was actually changed in 2012, though I can’t recall how (I’ll ask again) but perhaps the fs.hp punish is the new follow-up option?

Really? I kinda started treating her like Guile or Dee Jay where I look to snuff out her slow moving LP soul sparks which they like to use as a shield to walk in. I also like to throw a lot of LP shaku so they can reflect it back at me. If I see they like to follow the reflected red fireball in, I usually FADC dash forward and sweep them for a nice surprise UTKD.

Tokido first showed this in an AE (not 2012) tournament in Europe (France?) I believe. He repeated it quite a few times. I’m unsure on the correct application, it seems more of a case of anticipation, though I guess you could jam on s.lk which Rose perform strings and due to spiral not being a true block string, I guess the fs.lk comes out and you react and punish.
Previously you could do c.lp xx lk tatsu > sweep, though like I said above Toxy explained to me that this has changed in 2012 due to slight changes to Rose’s spiral properties (c.lp xx lk tatsu no longer works?). This is what makes me think the whiff is possible, but the best punish may be fs.hp as -6 demonstrates above.
Or, maybe I’m looking into it too much. Seems reasonable tho.
Toxy’s wrong. Soul Spiral didn’t receive any changes other than a small damage buff to the EX version.
As a Rose player, eating a st.HP to the face is going to make me think twice about throwing out Spiral blockstrings but it’s not going to make me stop unless my opponent demonstrates that they can punish me consistently. Getting swept for whiffing Spirals however, will definitely give me pause.
wait a mini, Her Bnb spiral not a block string ok but just as our cr:mk: xx fireball I assume. Listening to you guys it’s like its even worse and we can put a damn fierce with block stun + startup between normals and her spiral ender ? Only a st.:lk: ? even that it’s a damn normal the hole is that huge between normals and spiral in her string ?
The only thing that could stop our fake string cr:mk: xx fireball is a reversal not a normal of any kind. I’m wrong ?
Unless the spacing to be ready to use this :lk: to make spiral whiff, is achieved by her own block string, this would be too hard to use on reaction.
I must have missed something.
On another subject I would like to talk a bit more about the shoryu FADC Daigo used lately. I said earlier I tried that and miserably failed to do any followup but I only tried on standing dummy. I have a feeling the property change on crouching target and the stun could be a bit longer letting us connect the followup.
I’m right ? (I’ll check it myself but explaining my thoughts help to remember…)
