Yeah I too thought that he played wierd… He just spammed DF all the way even though that made him predictable and Haitani beated him out of it so much times, or dash under it xD
But even though he did that, his fought pretty good nonetheless, he vortexed his opponents well, and all the sets were really close, he could’ve taken every matchup if he were a little more precise in landing his punishing combos xD
Tokido exposed really bad in Topanga cup.
5 losses and 2 wins and let’s be honest, kindevu fucked up so many EASY combos with cammy, otherwise tokido would’ve never won that one.
Still, 5-2 is still really bad for a supposedly top tier character played by it’s best character specialist
Well, he still has 4 matches to go tomorrow, and considering he’s played the MOST matches as of now we can’t really make any conclusions. We should speak about exposing once all the players will finish up their mathces.
But anyway, maybe a little off the topic, but how do you guys feel about Akuma’s tier postitioning right now? Based from my play of 2012 I’d say Akuma is probably mid-bottom A-tier, wouldn’t put him in the top anyway. I think in this game damage is what important, if Akuma had damage like Sakura does, or if he had a more safer vortex like Seth and Viper has he would be amongst the top, but as of now I don’t think he’s even near top-tier.
He’s good, but he’s been better in previous versions, now he struggles too damn much, where he shoudn’t. Me personally, I feel like Ken, Ryu and Zangief are giving me too much trouble then they should, I loose to a good Zang way too often then I’m used to D:
I think the longer AE 2012 is out the more akuma will fall in the tier list. I think he’s top 10 but he’s not the best in the game as some are making him out to be.
Tokido is posting some of his Topanga matches on his youtube.
I knew that match VS Daigo was going to be bad. 0 - 3. Nasty. Here’s hoping we see some videos soon.
Tokido has the worst style to engage Daigo. His AA game is weak, his footsies are mediocre and he exploits players who have weak defense on wakeup. I would prefer to see how -6 would handle Daigo with Akuma although -6 doesn’t know when to take the foot off the gas.
Recall that FT100 set between them a year or so ago? Tokido demonstrated really good spacing in those games and I felt he played quite well. The end results kinda reflected the 6:4 matchup stats. This was before the unblockable was discovered too.
Ryu pulverises Akuma a lot in 2012 though, so in my view you quite simply have to be a 15 - 20% better shoto player to win it due to the inherent handicap Akuma has due to his health, stun and borderline inability to apply his signature setplays VS Ryu.
Agree re: -6. I’d love to see that. I’d also like Infiltration to tackle the beast.
“Tokido has a tight schedule. he has to fight everyone in these 3 days because he wont be in japan next week. he’s going to germany for a tournament (not sure what tournament).”
Yikes. Guess he’s gonna have to plough through his matches quickly.
“Tokido (Akuma) 0 - 3 Daigo Umehara (Ryu)
Daigo read Tokido’s move quite accurate, he can overcome the Akuma’s vortex and even no chance giving to Tokido start his mix up. An easy win for Daigo.”
Really tough matchup again. Need to find a guaranteed unblockable to even things up.
3-0…i didn’t watch the vids. hopefully its not too hard to digest for my eye…
maan Tokido got really destroyed in this tournament D: I expected him to lose to Daigo and Uryo, he always seemed to struggle againts the beast and againts Sakura as well… But losing to Cody, Ibuki and Mak? That’s disgusting, feel really bad for Tokido ):
I no longer view Tokido as the best Akuma user anyway. With his vortex nerfed, footsies and controlling space have become increasingly important for Akuma users. Also, AA’ing when it’s obvious when to AA is crucial to maintain momentum and eat less mixups by your opponent. These are all things Tokido is not good at (relative to other players).
I liked Sako and -6 Akuma’s much more than Tokido’s. Sako has stuck with Ibuki and -6 is someone we’ll never enjoy in worldwide tournaments, cause he is a 30+ year old businessman who only plays SF for fun in arcades. My friend played him once and said -6 plays in arcades with his business suit still on lol.
Vortex isn’t nerfed.
DF palm not being overhead did nerf the vortex a bit though, I’ve already faced some players who crouch all day long when I’m demon flipping 'em which is starting to annoy me lol, DF dive kick does connect as a crossup more often from my experience when the opponents are crouching so it’s not that bad I guess.
You want to know something? People who crouch are easier to cross up palm against because some angles that would normally hit a standing opponent go straight over a crouching one. Especially those with tiny crouching boxes like Honda or Chun.
Even if you can block an attack high and low doesn’t mean that there aren’t advantages or disadvantages to blocking one direction. For instance many dive kicks you can lower the frame advantage block blocking it standing.
In this case the advantage for the opponent to block high is that it makes the cross up more obvious.
Absolutely it is. Palm not being an overhead is a nerf that reduces Akuma’s mixup options.
It does but to be honest it was one of my least used mix ups. Is it one less option? Sure, but really I don’t feel like the mix up game has suffered so bad that people still won’t fear it. The characters who were free before are still just as free.
Problem is it was a very strong option on charge characters. It forced them to stand and lose the up/down charge while being a safe jump and if you whiffed into low shorts it you could get an UTKD resetting the scenario.
Obviously the vortex is still strong, but it certainly isn’t as strong as before.
Some new footage of Momochi’s Akuma:

I still think he can do amazing things if he stuck to the character but I guess all hope is lost by now.
