We already defeated Sheng-long! The Akuma Video Thread

What’s up, Gator? First off, I know how Psycho is spelled, but obviously you don’t listen to Cypress Hill, so you wouldn’t know the reference to the name. It’s all good. You’ll best know me as JC Exclusive, but if you really know me, JC is fine.

I see you post a lot in these threads and you come off as a guy who knows it all. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the feedback you gave me and I’m sure you spend many hours practicing with Akuma to understand his gameplay. However, there’s this tone with you whenever you post a comment. I’m sure other people know what I’m talking about. I’m sorry if I don’t know you, but I’ve been playing in the Street Fighter scene (entering tournaments and so forth) since 2000. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of you or seen you at any EVO, so I just want to know what’s your background. Where do you play? Just at home or do you hit the arcade/tournament scene? It’s funny how you referred to J.R. as my “friend.” I bet you don’t even know who J.R. is.

Not bad. Nice super demon.

Ok match, but a little sloppy though. I don’t know how much to attribute to lag.

I saw some weird choices for combos. In addition I saw things like random Ultras and other actions that were fundamentally poor.

Might as well post my vids. Available in HD as well.

That’s what this thread is for, isn’t it? Good shit. I like your Akuma. You know how to be defensive and at the same time offensive. I’d like to get some matches against your Akuma sometime.

nice vids shin. always a pleasure. sick ultra by gief vs your ultra lol.

Thanks.

My philosophy on defense versus offense is that while defense is key for Akuma you must also know how to be offensive because there are many situations where you will need offense to comeback.

Sure, but the last time I played JR the connection wasn’t very good, so ours may be similar.

Thank you sir.

I know. I was thinking to myself when I let the demon go that I did it a bit too late and was hoping that he wouldn’t ultra.

Some decent matches. I loved when they were counting the fireballs in the first match.

I’ll withhold any criticism unless you want it.

Sorry if you took offense bro. I never mean to offend anyone by my comments and by no means do I know everything or anything. “The Only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing…” Socrates said something similar to that (i might be off a little but the jist is there…). When someone critiques something and actually critiques it both from their point of view and without being dismissive (ohh great akuma!!) then its bound to rub someone a little bit in the wrong way… and as such I’m sorry. I used to critique lots of papers in HS and I currently have a job correcting papers for my past O-chem teacher so I’m used to giving opinionated attempts at “help.”

you can PM me if you have specifics of what I said that bothered you cuz I just re-read what I wrote and unless you mistook the ryu, classy, or hit confirm comments as anything but jokes, I don’t really see what I said that got yo goat. But again… deserved annoyance directed at me or not… I’m sorry if what I wrote brought out such a feeling bro.

I’ll PM you the rest of a comment so as not to clutterfuck this thread up…lol.

@ shin

refreshing to see a lot of offense against geif…lol.

nice ultra by gief. No other critiques

good job shinakuma. i like your akuma’s offensive randomness, very exciting. doesn’t always give you the most damaging combo, but i could definitely see the mindgames effecting your opponents

hey ur better then me but sometimes u seem to miss the srk at the end of the BNB i never miss that tho… are u actually doing the srk input which is the “Z” pattern + punch? because u can do it just by pressing diagional + punch… much easier and harder to mess up

To be honest you can’t tell me anything I don’t already know.

Sometimes the mindgame is more important than damage. I’ll sacrifice 5% damage to condition my opponent to expect a certain “habit” of mine so that late game I have the option to switch it up and win with it.

If I miss the dp it’s because I am undecided mid combo to finish or reset, not due to execution.

It’s all good, Gator. I know you mean well by giving feedback, but it’s just that your criticism sometimes comes off as belittling remarks rather than being constructive criticism. I’m glad you cleared it up though. Last thing I would want is to keep wrong opinions about people. As for that topic, we’ll end it here.

My hit confirmation is pretty bad. It has always been with 3S, CvS2, and so on, that’s why I do certain combos where people react with wtf??? lol. That, I understand. Even though this game is slower, I still react slow. Anywho, too bad you play on Xbox because I would’ve like to get some matches and see your skill level because it seems you do understand your character really well. Are you planning to go to EVO this year?

i just finished sending a long ass pm… or I think it was. I just kinda slowly typed as I corrected papers…lol. Had I seen your response I’d have just deleted probably and not bothered…lol. But at least the PM clears up a little ?? I don’t know… I don’t even know necessarily what I wrote.

It would be cool to play you though if one of us had the other system. I’ve been iffy with my online anyway recently. Played some old friend from my high school team who happened to rent the game and goes to UCLA and the connection was spotty. Someone fucked up the connection a little while ago and its never gotten back up to what it used to be *tear.

I answered your evo question without knowing in the PM… but I’ll just quick answer with no. Hit-confirming is honestly one of if not THE hardest thing in fighting games, so i wouldn’t feel bad about that. And by general census I’d assume its understood that a natural drawback of hit-confirming things is that you miss out on potential damage the more “hit confirmable” something is. And you didn’t do a bad job in your vid… you just had one miss. shit happens.

I will say I probably did less “useful” and more “this is wrong *point point point” than I usually try to do when looking at someone’s video. Go to some other fighting sites and you’ll see that sometimes I’ll write a whole fucking page responding to someone’s video…lol. I’m gonna call my excuse being irritated at the fact I cut my hand open badly earlier today on an old rim at the court near my place. You’d be surprised how easily you can slice up your hand on an old metal basketball rim. It also contributes to the slow typing >_<.

I WOULD like to say that I find it HILARIOUS that a bunch of the other posts on the page after your comment to me have felt the need to ask if they can comment or preface something with “I suk but…” just had to mention that.

Sorry… jibba-jabba man i am (god grading shit is boring). Anyway, I know the feeling Shin. Usually I don’t bother with the reset but when I do make a mistake its usually because I didn’t decide if I wanted to reset before I got to the tatsu…lol. I actually had someone PM me with “why didn’t you finish your combo that last time? were you trying to taunt me?” to which I said “no … I was thinking…lol.” I guess I just am unlucky that I come off as an internet asshole… :looney:

Akuma is really a girl!

Bet you didn’t see that coming! Right?!

(Yes I know I went off the deep end.)

Although I couldn’t complain a whole lot about what you did, the only thing I would say is you got a little predictable. After a while I knew the resets were coming.

O-Chem teacher? If you don’t mind me asking, what major are/were you by any chance?

Well I didn’t know that.

The thing is my opponent knowing the reset is coming is the entire point. It allows me another level of mixup that can result in high damage for minimal risk.

For example - I reset a Ryu into a demon flip throw for more damage and stun. I do this a couple of times and the opponent will now try to adapt to the reset by punishing what they expect. I can anticipate that and do my “safety” reset. It’s a reset off the hard punch into demonflip but instead of the light kick version I do the medium kick version (hard kick on Sagat) with a palm strike. This reset lands behind the opponent and if they tried to dp/headbutt/whatever it whiffs and I get a free punish.

You can actually see in my videos that I did this a few times, but my opponents never adapted, so I just continued to get the free damage from the demon flip throw. No reason to change if they won’t do anything about my tactics.

I really need to go to bed… lol

anyway, @ ^^^. My major is Biological Sciences (Bio BS). I have to take O-chem for the major…lol (although the class was interesting…). The major is more a means to an end if anything though as I’m gonna start studying over the summer for my MCATS (I know… studying over the summer…LOL). I actually took the class beginning of last school year (so its been a while) but I did well in the class so the teach e-mailed me if I wanted to take a tutoring job or a paper grading job for the class. I can do paper grading WHENEVER so I picked paper grading…lol. I need the money for room n board…lol…Poor college kid that I am. living off free Gatorade from the sports medicine ppl and under the overhang at taco bell :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Why you ask?

and video thread related comment: akuma is not a girl… or if he is he’s some roided-up asian chick.

well u sure do take full advantage of the demon flip…never seen sum1 do it so much…i wonder why he wasnt lp srk like a mad man

Hella random. Zero hit-confirming. Just, random ass shit thrown all over the place.

Hella spamming, too. Bad choice of punish, etc. Very weak, punishable mixups and jump-ins.

ShinAkuma: Wasn’t bad, nice offensive play on a Gief. Tell them to shut up next time though that was annoying. :frowning:

I get exactly what you’re saying about mixing up the opponent on that next level. It’s all about conditioning your opponent into doing what you want to do, and being seemingly unpredictable.

Never question shinakuma’s resets, he is like king of resets lol.
