We already defeated Sheng-long! The Akuma Video Thread

Check out Shin Akuma´s channel on YT, it´s got plenty of them:

Ridiculous is definitely the word here, I was actually busting out laughing at how he handled Giefs. It totally worked though, they were scared as shit to go on the offense to K66, he truly did not give a fuck.

I also remember that match against a certain sagat where he was going to win but decided to be fancy with the loop, fucked up, and lost lol.

Oh definitely. Don’t get me wrong, guy is godlike compared to me. I just find myself laughing or rolling my eyes and smiling when he lands yet another demon. He’s obviously proven himself to be a solid player and he knows when to dip into his bag of tricks, I just don’t get how he gets away with it as often as he seems to

Well, often enough, if you break the mold, you can catch people by surprise as they expect things to play out according to plan. I think this is how he was able to defeat Tokido at EVO 2010.

that and tokido fucked up lots of combos he usually doesn’t miss. Tokido seemed off at this year’s evo.

Tokido gets a perfect on Justin during this match. One thing of interest is that Tokido was using far HP to end a lot of his block and hit strings. Was trying to figure out why as it’s a loose hit that doesn’t combo and when Rufus jumped away at one point there was no OS. My guess though is that it’s there to stop Rufus from Dive Kicking during breaks in the string that would go over any tick throw Akuma would try or at the least flip the offensive momentum over to Rufus.

So I guess this could be a tool to think about for the Rufus match-up.

exactly…that’s to stop him from doing a dive kick…if you do a string like c.lk c.lp c.mp and end it with c.mk xx hado or sweep rufus can do an instant dive kick and combo akuma’s ass for 300 damage. Using s.hp to end blockstrings will stop any of his dive kick attempts…I’ve been using it since super came out, a friend of mine showed it to me and it worked wonders. I also use it, in a lesser way, against cammy.

I can’t say it enough - learn the spacing required to aa with fs.hp. Its fantastic. Its difficult to learn properly, but once you have it down you’ll be surprised by just how much extra damage it ushers in in the right situations that would otherwise be left unpunished.

Rufus is actually the easiest character to AA with it, so practise on him first to start getting a good feel for the timing required, then move onto more nimble characters such as Ryu and Cammy.

Interesting points re: that string ender with fs.hp to prevent the dive kick punishers Shin. I started using fs.hp a while back just in general but never considered the additional benefits of me plugging it onto the ends of strings. I’ve actually tacked on end end of strings as a means to collect a counterhit now and then, which is actually a good chunk of damage.

Short story segment:
A few years ago, for my buddy’s bday in March 09, another friend and I decided to make him a crude, albeit inspired sf4 cabinet.
DIY Street Fighter IV Cabinets Make The Best Birthday Presents

Not that its a direct comparison, after last year dude got me a ps3 for my 09 bday, but my bday just passed a few days ago and this buddy dropped by with a gift this year.

Not only did I not expect such a sick novelty item:

  1. I hadn’t realized there was an Akuma version!
  2. It HAS P+P+:r:+K+P!!!
  3. ITS GOT P+P+:l:+K+P!!!
  4. Japanese voice. Thank God!

Here’s a vid of the sound effects and different specials. All of them except dflip. I will be practicing with this at work.
Enjoy guys

So people are just hitting buttons after low jabs?

In that case, don’t forget to link the sweep. It’s a link worth picking up because you fetch about 250 damage and a knockdown off that hit. I think they tightened up the link in SSF4 though; it’s at least two frame in vanilla. Your knockdown opportunities are a bit wierd because the link always gives you a max range sweep, meaning many usual sweep options don’t work properly. HK flip palm still crosses over them though; just barely at the last moment, so that’s a gimmick to follow-up with. EX flip dive kick usually auto-angles itself correctly for stuffing Shoryu’s.

But don’t do any poking with far HP; cuz the hit box sucks and loses to all sorts, the reach isn’t that far and the move lags on recovery.

Oddly enough, it does make solid AA at the right spacing. Infact without far HP Akuma would have an exploitable hole in his AA game. One thing Momochi likes to do with it is walk forward after throwing an air fireball and then HP them on the way down from a neutral jump. It’s particularly poignant when they are a chip away from death and need to evade any fireballs.

Damn, that thing is sweet. It’s a great b-day gift.

To add something to the subject of far HP AA; bear in mind that characters with Demon Flips and air tatsus or anything similar can cleanly beat that AA by the alterations to timing/positioning. It’s not a sure hit against those characters even if your setup is immaculate.

Me too.
He was my favorite Akuma player hands down.

It might be that Momochi doesn’t much like the way Akuma plays in the new version of the game. (I know I don’t)

same. he got boring but hey the games more balanced, amiright?

he didn’t get boring, in fact he can do the same stuff as before (ok the hado fadc s.hk combo isn’t as reliable but you can do other ones) but it got harder to win with him. I’m ok with that if it serves the purpose of making the game more balanced (and in fact it does).

Hell i’m sure 80% of the people complaining about the removal of the loop couldn’t/wouldn’t do it in a real match anyways.

As promised my vids from the national dutch championships.
