Was the Street Fighter EX series really THAT bad?

I fell in love with Street Fighter at a very young age playing on my Nintendo. As the years passed I was gifted a Playstation and the first game my parents got me was Street Fighter EX+Alpha. I played the hell out of that damn game and recently I revisited the series and for that time period I don’t see why the game gets such a bad wrap. I personally think some of the characters were super interesting and deserve to be brought back, the music was superb. I feel like they put most of their work into the music lol
Can someone please tell me why the game receives so much negative feedback?

(PS. I know Arika owns the EX characters)
