This has to be bait.
People have hated 3S(or any other FG) for quite some time.
And also it might help if people stopped constantly starting a new 3S thread every other damn week.

i love when people say this because you know youre dealing with someone who knows nothing about fighting game strategy
ur in fgd the same people shit on certain games in every thread about those games everytime
SF games always get better with each iteration imo. I haven’t got a chance to play SF4 but, from what the intrawebs say, it looks like it’s keeping up that standard.
But, when has a fanbase ever been in the same situation as the SF fanbase?
When has any other series created 10 or 11 games with similar casts in just 6 years? 11 GAMES. How can anyone blame Capcom for introducing a new cast in that context?
It’s as if people don’t remember the huge criticism Capcom used to get for rehashing, upgrading, and tweaking the same content all the time. Then, when they made ONE brand new game, people acted like they had never complained about anything.
Also, keep in mind the fact that SF3 wasn’t the only new 2D game of the time. Alpha 3, Pocket Fighter, more Marvel games. Capcom had the rehash lovers covered, too.
All they were trying to do was expand the franchise with SF3, while also catering to the old school fans at the same time with Alpha 3 etc. How is that stupid AT THE TIME? How is that a mistake AT THE TIME?
Hindsight is 20/20. It’s easy to say now that SF3 didn’t blow up immediately, therefore it was a mistake. But, at the time Capcom was actually playing it very safe, buffering the release of this experimental new direction with lots of classic style rehashes.
(And, in spite of all those other rehashes and tweaked games that came later, 2D STILL died. SF3 or not, 2D was going to die in a few years regardless.)
I don’t think 2D died… I think 2D died to the general public, but as far as dying goes, Guilty Gear, Doujin fighters, King of Fighters lived on, SamSho Tenka, 2.5D games like Rumble Fish, and a lot of the 2D fighters lived on to continue to be money-makers (MvC2, 3S/HAC, etc)
I still don’t think 2D is dead. I think the fighting game genre is dying as quickly as 2D fighters in general.
I agree with several of the views previously mentioned here.
-First and foremost SF and most if not all fighting games storylines aren’t shit. Most companies have figured out (ironically probably from SF3) that its the characters that make up the appeal for fans, so random shit to bring back fan favorites (shout out to them Mishima family) is always accepted because the story is just an excuse to throw down.
-SF3 is a good game that didn’t kill off the 2D fighting market because it was already dying by the time of its release. Fighting games had the spot light for a while but then the public moves on, like they did with RPGs, Platformers and survival horror. Nothing Capcom could do to make people play their games, given they tried every variation of fighter including using popular characters from other media.
Mascarita Dorada --> 3S
The other bum --> YOU BUMS

I know right? That all new SF2 cast except for three characters totally fucking blows bro. Ware da fuck was Retsu at, and Eagle ain’t show up till CvS2?!?! Awh hell naw man fuck SF2!
Look up some past threads on the topic. Read Viscant’s posts in them.
4, if you want to be technical and count Akuma.
Akuma isn’t in SF1.
Either way, people seem way too content with getting Rehash Fighter these days. Excuse me if I like whole new characters to fight against.
To put it simply, I think it had everything to do with when the game was released.
I thought Street Fighter 3 was amazing. However, I thought that Capcom made a mistake by not including more classic characters in it, and I think that was the biggest reason why it didn’t get near Street Fighter 2’s level of popularity. You had Ryu, Ken, and if you had 3rd Strike (as I did on my Dreamcast), Chun Li. If you grew up playing Street Fighter 2 though, you probably were scratching your head as to why none of your other favorites were in it.
It was an excellent game, and I still love it. I just wish that it had more familiar faces, and I’m sure many other players did as well.
@ Shaq-Fu
I understand what you’re saying and I think you make some good points but…
1.Random accidental stuff happens in ALL the SF games. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve won a match because I accidentally threw or DP’ed when i was trying to do something else. Yes, it happens in 3s but it happens in the other games too.
3.SF3 is a different game than SF2 or the Alpha games, so it’s going to depart from those a bit. If you want those fundamentals, you can always play SF2 or Alpha and they’ll be there. Though in departing from those fundamentals, SF3 opens up a whole new strategical can of worms.
Agree to disagree though. loads up Shaq-Fu
It was my first instinct to be offended by this, but then I looked at your username and rep and thought, “Nahhhhhh…”
Thanks for the heads up specs, I appreciate it. I’m gonna go check those out!
both are good and needed
just look at kof I see now where they are,
sorry I couldn’t resist the fanboyism
holy shit
mistica 20x version:wow:
Hope y’all are gonna buy KOFXII, no matter what. I know I am…
Yup, and Capcom new this at the time. That’s why they released SF3 AND Alpha 3 within a year’s time.
SF3 = new experiment
A3 = throwback
And, in retrospect it worked really well. A3 sold well for PS1 at the time, and SF3’s slow burn helps keep the series alive and kicking 10 years later…long after the A3 scene slowed down.
That’s not my definition of a failure.
You know what was a mistake? MK3 was a mistake.
SF2 and SF3 are both great games. SF2 just came out at the right time and SF3 didn’t.
i do think 3s looks really nice. but i dont like it at all !!!
some might say that the complexity of the game turned a lot of players away form the sf scene , and that some charachters simply was too odd for it to be a very popular game. the reason why i dont like 3s is probably that there never was a ps2 pal port of the game untill many many years later , capcom even removed 3s from the anniversary game over here because 3s was too unheard of and probably not popular enough. Only the chosen few that had a dreamcast and an arcade stick were lucky enough to ever try 3s. Anyways i think the timing is buggy , fireballs and charge charachters mostly suck and it dosent really feal like sf to me.
is a way to technical game for me , i try one parry and die instantly.
Actually, there is still no PAL PS2 port. And you’re wrong about removing it from the collection;
HSF2 PAL was released on its own disc, just like it was in Japan. In fact, the PAL version came out before there was an Anniversary Collection at all in the US.
The US guys just saw fit to package it with the 3S port (again, its own disc in Japan) only because a 2d fighting game from years back likely wouldn’t have sold on its own outside a bundle in the States.
