If I’ve posted this in the wrong place, I apologize.
I’d like to start playing Street Fighter 4, but I’m a bit concerned about the following:
If I buy an arcade stick and the game now for the XBOX 360, is there any danger that the game and players will soon move onto the new XBOX and the PS4? Would that mean that I would have to buy the new console and another arcade stick?
I only have a 360 and a gaming PC right now. I would prefer to play on the 360 for convenience reasons. I don’t want to have to buy a next gen console at all really.
One more question (for any players who might be in New Zealand) - where the hell do we buy arcade sticks from down here?? I’ve googled for ages and only found second hand sticks and a couple of brand new Tekken and MK sticks - do these work OK for SF4? Really frustrating living in this country. We either can’t buy this sort of thing here or if we do, it’s double the price it is anywhere else. But anyway, I’m willing to pay the money, but just don’t have a clue where to buy one from.
Guys, thanks a lot for any help you can give me. I’m really keen to start playing, I’ve been watching quite a few tournaments on Youtube. At first I was just enjoying watching others play, but now I’ve got the itch to start playing myself. I just don’t want to waste money and make stupid mistakes.
With SF5 being announced for PS4/PC, I think it’s a pretty decent chance that will happen, sadly. There will probably be made converters that allow you to use it on other systems, though(keep in mind, Louffy plays with a PS1-controller in tournaments).
If you’re afraid of wasting money, I’d suggest getting the game on PC, and get an arcade stick that can be used on PC.
I just got a stick over the summer and it’s worth it. I figure I’ll be playing on xbox360 for at LEAST another year and having the experience on the stick helps.
As for where to buy it, I got mine from the Madcatz website. I got it during the Evo promotion so it was on sale for like $80 USD. It’s one of the cheaper sticks you can buy, but I think it works perfectly. My friend bought a $200 Eightarc stick and I see no difference.
I think I’m now leaning towards getting set up to play on the PC, as Naeras advised. Do you know if there is a any disadvantage to playing on PC, like less players or anything like that?
And I’m going to see if I can get a stick directly from Madcatz website, so thanks for the tip on that Greenwood.
I do believe there are fewer players on PC than XBL, but I’ve never had a problem with getting a match on PC anyways. Not that I play much ranked, as I prefer playing endless match lobbies with friends / sparring partners. So, if there’s an actual disadvantage, it’s not big enough to matter.
OK that sounds good enough for me then. I’m gonna be a bottom of the barrel newbie anyway, so I don’t need top level opponents. Gonna go with PC.
Damn, Madcatz won’t sell to NZ. And I was searching around on Amazon US and they won’t ship any electronics to NZ. This is ridiculous. Spent the last half hour trying to find somewhere in Australia that will ship here. My god, is everyone in this country playing on a XBOX controller?
They’ve got great sticks, even dual modded ones for use on both systems+pc and they send their sticks around the world as far as I know.
AND STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM PC IF YOU GOT AN XBOX360 ALREADY!!!
You don’t want to play that frustrating, infuriating, broken piece of shit lag fest that is USFIV on Steam.
If I could I’d ram that game up Yoshinori Ono’s ass without lube until he starts vomiting Ken’s and Ryu’s.
WOW ok, that doesn’t fill me with confidence about the PC platform.
I think I’m going to go ahead and order that beautiful Qanba Q4 Ice Blue. It looks like they do ship everywhere, so thanks for the tip.
The Qanba will play on 360 and PC, both of which I have. So I will play it on 360 for as long as people are playing it. Then if it all migrates over to next gen, I will buy the new game for the PC. I really don’t want to by a next gen console as I don’t need it for any other game so it would be a big waste. Hopefully by that stage the Japanese guy you want to assault will have got his shit together and there won’t be any more issues on PC.
Again, thanks everyone who’s answered my questions.
PC platform works fine as long as your computer meets the requirements (Steam is expanding it’s fighting game library too, so if you want to check out other fighters you have the option to easily get ahold of them). There’s the occaisional bad connection but you’ll get that on every system. I’ve got both xbox and pc… aside from less populated endless search results I don’t feel any real difference in quality.
Also, eightarc sticks are grand. I’ve had the fusion for over a year now and have no regrets.
Sounds like a perfect plan to me. Also when you get the arcade stick you’re going to be bad for at least a week so just prepare for that. It pays off well in the end though because it’s so much fun.
Pc SFIV isnt nearly as bad as it was when it first dropped. Ive gone back to playing it and i can get green bar, playable matches about 95% of the time in ranked with alot of different players…the community seems to be very active as of late on the PC. And like others have said, if you buy a x360 stick, it is plug n play compatible with your PC.
if history is any indicator, people will be playing Ultra on Xbox360 for years to come. Every week at the weeklys in Detroit I see MvC2 being played on a dreamcast and Smash being played on a gamecube or a wii. When SFV drops there will bean army of SFIV players who will call it shit and play IV the same way as when IV dropped people called it shit and kept playing III, the same waywhen III dropped people called that game shit and kept playing II
OK cool, I have a really good PC so that part shouldn’t be a problem. And yeah, can’t wait to get the eightarc stick. But $75 to ship it… ah well, at least I’ve found a place that will send it here, and they seem really helpful from the communication I’ve had with them.
OK thanks for the advise on using the stick. Will stay with it.
I’m really glad I’m getting the dual compatible stick. That was most of my worry, that I’d have to buy a new one. Good to hear that about PC as well. My preference would be for the 360 because of where it is in my house, it’s a lot more convenient than PC. But yeah, at least if a new version comes out then I can have a go on PC without having to but a new stick and a next gen console.
Hope it does work out that way. I play a lot of Counter-Strike, and yeah, what you say rings true with how the CS scene has gone over the years with new versions.
He’s right, besides the superior graphics, mods, and convenience that PC offers… The net code is bad, most of the time you will be playing yellow bars on PC, just saying. (there is the less players thing too) It wasn’t always like that, before PC was hands down the best version before they moved the game over to Steam works and took it off Games for windows live. I own the game on 360 and PC, it’s pretty convenient that most 360 sticks work on PC too though, so all you need is one stick. Street Fighter V comes out on PC too, and it’s cross play (PC players can play against PS4 players) So your 2 in 1 360/PC stick will still be good for years to come, don’t sweat it! No reason to get the PS4 version in my eyes. PC better graphics potential, mods, same server as PS4 players.
Wanna add that PC is only fucking shit ass bad if you play ranked games.
Private lobbies are a dream by SF4 standards with really good connections.
Thing is:
If you start out playing, you don’t have any friends. You have to play ranked in order to make and add friends you can play in private lobbies with later.
Even with a big list of players, you don’t always find someone who has time or doesn’t sit in a 8 man lobby where you gotta wait for 16 minutes per play if you’re not the guy who owns everyone in the lobby.
Sometimes you just wanna dick around or check how your matchup knowledge across the board is, so you go play ranked against random playstyles and random matchups.
But that’s just fucking masochism on PC and really holds you back. Sometimes I don’t want to fire the game up at all just thinking about the dumb wins and losses where you didnt learn anything because you either lucked out or got fucked by lag.
Saddest part is nobody even tries to address Capcom. There’s a petition going for Capcom to fix the damn game and is has gathered a whole 10 supporters in 2 days.
Nobody gives a fuck not even pros or internet personalities like Max say shit about the terrible state USF4 on Steam is in and jokers like Alex Valle, say funny things like “PC is great.”.
That kind of initiative in the fgc makes me wonder with what kind of a crappy game Capcom can get away with with SFV. I mean nobody says anything, game is fine right?
You should’ve seen the shitstorm that went down with Dota 2 last year when Valve didn’t put up Diretide (a Halloween mini game that was made available every year) and didn’t make an announcement it.
While it looked retarded it at least showed the community cared about customer support and communication enough to force action from the developer.
Yeah you disagree with my whole post because of a 2 line segment and still defend the PC version even though it has an elementary gamemode that doesn’t work like intended and got treatment in form of a joke beta and patch.
And also say there’s no difference between Xbox and PC, which makes me think you’re fucking retarded.
Why not save rhe 100 or 200 youll spend sell your console go next gen your going to have too do it now n get a stick an cronus max later by the time sf iv hits all the sticks will go up i bought a xb1 te 2 for 170 n having gunmo dual mod it for ps4 for 170
Public 2 players lobby is as good as private ones.
I barely see yellow bars in ranked, but filters make our experience much better in EU than US. (Countries sizes)
If Mr. Alex Valle can play ranked that often and get to n°6 top Hugo, must not be that horrible to play on PC after all right ?
Anyway beware of opinions from the US if you don’t live there. Try to find people near you, must be some on SRK.
