@Nitewalker: Do you think that Harbor Freight Router will be powerful enough to allow me to route through this particle board? I need the TE panels to sit flush on the flat black part of the desk. Also, what bit do I need to route the particle board?
Since it’s so shallow, the HF trimmer would be ok.
PM sent on a router I’m not using though.
The bit you’d want is a simple straight bit.
If you plan to put plexi over the whole ordeal once the panels are in place you don’t need a template; just trace the panels and rout to the line by eye. Go from one end to another so the router has support throughout the cut.
The plan is to have Plexi over the entire control panel.
Thanks to Nitewalker for the Router. The Control Panel mounting may have to wait until next weekend now, but I am still planningt on getting the other 2 side panels cut, and hopefully at least the backs cut tomorrow as well.
More pictures / info will be coming tomorrow!
Have you though about just replacing the partial board with MDF I know it seems counter productive but MDF just has more heft/stronger easier to work with.
When routing that stuff wear a good mask the glue they use will kill or really make your lungs feel like ass
You should also look on craigslist for a router you will probably save a few and get much better one than the HF one. There’s always people who buy routers after watching those DIY shows and their lazy ass never use them.
The stock board will be more than strong enough for what I am doing. The bulk of the weight will be on the panels. I am getting a better router from Nitewalker, that’s why the panel mounts will have to wait until next weekend… Hoping to get to the shop in a couple of hours.
fucking genius!
Love to see the results. May try this out down the road for my friend and I.
Got some updates!
Got some more wood cut today at the shop. Decided that I’m going to try and completely cut all of the wood for the 1st cab, this way I can disassemble and trace all of the pieces out for the second cab.
Here is what I got done today.

I got the back panel and top of the speaker box cut out and test fitted ( Held together by painters tape ATM). I will have to do some sanding as my Jigsaw work was less than stellar…
View from the front.

Again, stuff is holding it in place so everyone can get an idea of what I’m planning on doing for the cab.

I will be adding T-Molding to the outermost wood walls. This will give it a more professional look in the end.

Everything is starting to line up properly now.
This last one is just so everyone can see the approximate size of these cabs.

The CP and the monitor will sit a bit higher than a Candy Cab.
I’m hoping to mount/Route the control panels next weekend. Hopefully everything works out and I can get more than 2 hours of work into this project next week. As always, feedback is appreciated.
Thanks and stay tuned for more updates as they come.
Looks awesome, dude. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait for the next update!
Love this thread. Reminds me of these cool stands I saw at a training center I was at. I wish I could identify them to buy some. They were unmarked.

^Those look AWESOME. Man, those would make great Arcade Cabs!
Nitewalker hooked me up with some tools and goodies. Hopefully more updates coming this weekend!
I e-mailed them asking who made them but didn’t get a response. It is making me bonkers that I can’t find them anywhere on Google.
Getting hype for more progress!
The other desk stand caught my attention so gave it a shot to see if I can find it. End up with something similar though the pricing wasn’t available unless you contact the supplier.

Small update.
Got the panel cut and sunken into the control Board section.

Now I just need to learn this router so I can get it to sit flush. More coming throughout the week!

The speakers are just lying there for reference. They will be properly mounted once completed.
You sir, are Awesome!!!
:rock::party:
It’s going to be like that, but probably black. This part will also be covered by Plexi and go all the way back to the speaker bar.
Amazing idea. Can’t wait to see the finished product. Things are looking great already
It’s coming along nicely. Will be legen…hope you are not lactose intolerant…DARY!!!
Thanks. Wish I had more time for these
I’m hoping I can get all of my wood cut this week to finish up the first one. Fingers crossed.
