Wake up Rochester!

Just so you guys know, I’ve had my PS3 copy for about 8 hours now. Game Craze on East Ridge Rd has PS3 and 360 copies, or did at around 8pm when I was there. I’m still picking up my 360 CE on Monday night, but figured you guys might be interested in scoring it early.

Thanks for the head up!

If only I had extra money wahhhh…

Well only a couple of days left, so I can wait…

Haha, yeah we had our own “Launch party” at Paul and Abes. It was packed and we got some shit down.
The game is fun, really fun. The shenanigans we pulled off hahaha. Still MUCH more to learn but we leveled up pretty
fast that night.

pretty funny the messages you get over xbl when you have this running early. lol.

grrrr lucky asses!

just a heads up, I called gamestop and asked abt the midnight launch 2morrow, and he told me only 3 places were doing the launch, which were the hudson ave gs where I reserved my game, the other in irondequoit, and the last location at howard rd. So its best to call the gs where you reserved your game to make sure, so you don’t have to go out and waste gas and time if they are not doing it.

I just read this:
Oh man guys. Wal-mart is having midnight tournies tomorrow on Valentines and the winner gets a free copy of MVC3!

hmm, my guess is that the chili walmart will be doing this?

I don’t recall the greece walmart being 24 hrs unless it changed?

errr… is the music in 5.1? listening to cap’s theme and the high drums seem to only come from my surrounds.

some notes…

sorry if this is already known, but on training mode:

  • no dummy record(!)
  • no reset button map but it’s in the menu
  • changing assist in the menu is very nice
  • they copied blazblue’s menu pages without an indicator that you can use the bumpers to pages forward

just tried the lobby mode and there’s no lag bars or spectator mode. what the shit? blazblue truly left no stone unturned as far as their online mode and menus go. predictive lag algorithms (dunno if they implemented it here), spectating, character select screen button setting, etc. should be standard. on the bright side, you can sit in the lobby and jump out of the queue, that’s something I’ve always wanted for friend rooms. no spectating ruins that tho.

mvc2 skills do not transfer over, i feel like a day 1 mvc2 player again -_-

sentinel is just AWESOME. jumping H>frying pan>st.M>launch or spit+rocks>fly>H>fryng pan>st M>launch etc etc

i just need to get decent with someone else who works good with those doom rocks. chris is decent at keepaway (dat magnum!) but rushdown teams are getting in pretty easy. this game needs cable lol

I believe the game has dolby digital.

as for the no spectation, that was already know, supposedly capcom is waiting to put it in a “patch dlc” in the near future, but they are aware of that.

Then again, this is capcom we are talkin abt, they always release shit with something vital missing.

Spent about 5hrs in the lab yesterday playing around with alot of different characters. I’ll post up a little of what I learned from yesterday.

L M A1
S H A2 feels like the setup of choice for me. You can combo in a square going clock-wise, if you see what I mean (L-M-H-S), assists are close at hand… it just feels right.

  • Not too sure why I diddn’t figure it out on Saturday, but I got the hang of wavedashing pretty much immediately yesterday. It really makes a big difference on quick ground approaches. I especially noticed that Wesker and X-23 can benefit huge from it.

  • On that note, X-23 is really sick, has so much mixup potential with her feints… I still need alot more time to get a full idea of all of her options, but she has every tool she needs to rushdown super hard. Also, from what I can tell, her L3 works as follows. She turns invisible, and you can do normal combos and such, but any time you use S as a launcher on the ground, it starts the L3 hyper animation. Also I’m not 100% sure but I believe S becomes unblockable while she’s invisible.

  • Played around with Storm a bit. Tri-jump isnt as dead as I thought it was, there’s still alot of speed. I’d put hers somewhere between Phoenix’s, who probably has the fastest, and Magneto. Anyway, couple of cool things you can do (if I remember right, I dont have my copy of the game in front of me right now):

Lightning Attack X3 -> Lightning Storm works now. Does pretty decent damage and you can still combo into it off of any normal.

She can OTG with Cyclone (I think thats the right one, QCB+L) after an air series, then follow up with Lightning Attack(s) -> Lightning Storm.

  • Dunno what it is, but I feel like I’ve got a much better feel for Wesker now than before. I dont know if its just having my stick and increased comfortability with the game’s inputs, but I am much more pleased with how he is playing now. Teleports aren’t ever exactly safe, but they are pretty close if you can put the opponent into blockstun off of the gun. I need to work his command throw in more, it allows the same combo options you have after landing his wallbounce.

command grab -> L Phantom Move -> L, M, H -> Cobra Strike -> L Phantom Move or Dash -> cf. H (OTG) + any assist that can hold in place -> Phantom Dance or Lost in Nightmare (meter dependant)

Its 400k with Phantom Dance, and 750k with Lost in Nightmare. Not bad off of a command throw.

What I’m going with for Wesker’s BnB off of an opening:

L, M, H (either standing or crouching here, work mixups etc) -> Cobra Strike -> cf. H (OTG) -> c. L, s. M, s. H, S -> air M, M, H, S -> cf. H + Dante assist (iron man / anyone who can hold up the character works too) -> Phantom Dance or Lost in Nightmare.

You can then start oki teleport mixup game. If you need to DHC you can cut the air combo short at H and go into Phantom Dance there. Full Combo does ~550k after Phantom Dance, or 900k with Lost in Nightmare.

  • I need a better memory to play Dante correctly. Half of his specials come off of mashing inputs after other specials… Drives you crazy, especially since you need those mashed inputs to keep up the combo alot of times.

  • MODOK is the least orthodox character that Capcom has put in a game in a long time. No normal jump, free-fly mode, strange normals, tosses out shields that float and protect you… I admire them for putting him in. That being said, I wont be playing him, he’s going to be very awkward at the start and I’m not really interested in that playstyle this time around.

  • I may end up giving Phoenix another try with a team that can build alot of meter for her. Her tri-jump is wicked fast, as is her teleport. Her damage potential is really high due to the high damage on her Hyper (I think its around 300k?), and her combos are both long and strong. Dark Phoenix has the highest damage potential in the game, but its going to be hard to bring her out. Its just going to come down to how effectively you can mixup and keep riding the rushdown, since her health is so ass.

Anyways, I’ll post more stuff as I find it. Hope to see alot of ppl on Weds, and we can share tricks and stuff we’ve found so far.

The way I have my Joystick setup -
:l::m::a1:
:s::h::a2:

Here’s some small things that we learned to those who were not there for our “Launch Party”.

Regarding characters that have “Armor” supers -
Hsien-Ko has Super armor. :qcf::atk::atk:
It is what it is… though… she takes shit loads more of damage BECAUSE there is no “Damage Scaling” done on her… so be careful.

Arthur has his golden Armor. :rdp::atk::atk:
You know what it is (Black and Yellow? haha I’ll stop)

Zero - Genei Jin
:hcb::atk::atk: (Least I think its HCB, if not it’s QCB).
his shadows.

Other characters like this, if you pull off any of those supers at the start (Remember the Juggernaut glitch?) and assist out. They STILL have that super armor/armor/shadow/buff on them when you call them as an assist. Although, if you switch them in, their timer runs down. But, having powered up versions of your assist isn’t too bad either. Just be careful of Hsien-Ko… she can NOT get hit haha. Shit hurts, makes Phoenix’s HP look toptier.

Magneto - Disruptar = fucking fast. Wong was covering a shit load of the screen with Disruptar and Dante’s Jam session assist.

Arthur - His lance goes through Disruptar.

Taskmaster - has an unblockable setup after (Not sure but Gary/Cole know this)
one of his specials. He headbutts you and it seems like you cannot block that but from what I saw, you can block the next attack. Though I think this is suppose to set your opponent up for tricks and shit.

My Team and Lockdown etc -
I’ve figured out one of THE greatest lock down teams besides Wong’s Mag-fucking-disruptar-neto/Dante-jamsession.

Arthur/Sentinel/Chun-li and or Zero ( that is my current team and it’s all Blue hehe).
Set Sentinel with either Sentinel Force (Ground or Bomb, player preference).
If you have Sent’s Bomb as your assist, it easily covers half to full screen. Once you send him out, have Arthur throw some daggahs and lances. If they get close to you and you want to push back, call out Chun to lock them in place and throw out your Axe.
If you have Sent’s Ground assist (the drones) it can easily cover the bottom half of the screen. Jump up and throw your daggers as you fall down OR shoot harpoons.
This team is ALMOST like a Spiral/Sentinel reincarnation except that it needs a new rhythm (Which I’m almost figuring out)
Sentinel is just as affective as an assist in this game as he was in MvC2. Just need to get use to his movement.

Some shit I figured out on my own and through missions mode (you guys should give it a try because the shit they make you do).

Zero -
What I learned with this dude is crazy. Ok, standing H to forward H can combo pretty easily but after your forward H, you can “Genei-Jin” and pop them up into combos without X-Factoring.
So my ideal combo that I was doing was, Either:
Jumping S >> Standing L >> M >> H >> Forward H >> “Genei Jin” >> Standing M >> S >> L, M, H >> Ryuenjin and or S to knock them down. (But seriously, there is so much more possibility for combos after the launch.)
That combo is pretty easy on my fingers already, there is so much more shit you can do with this guy. Check out his missions, crazy ass stuff.

Amateratsu - I’m seriously considering her on my team but I need to master her.
In mission mode, let me tell you this.
She can combo into stances. I have yet to experiment but the combos look pretty hefty.

Chun-Li -
God like.

Tron Bonne - Wong figured out this small baby loop.
Crouching L >> Standing M >> Drill (:rdp: :h:)
Rinse… and fucking… repeat… about 4 times.
Not sure how much it does but Wong was telling me it didn’t do too much but enough
to make your work productive.

Game options -
Going into the sound options and changing it to “Classic” will give you stage themes instead of Character themes. You can also change the voice actors (Capcom only).

License -
If you have not figured out what “Reserve Units” are for then here is what they are.
You can go to your License anytime on the main screen when pressing “R1”. Thus if you change the page to 2 or 3 (I don’t remember) you have the option to set your
"Reserve Unit". This means you can change position 1, 2, or 3 to whatever character you want, color of your choice, and assist type. Now when you go to Character Select you can see “L1 - Reserve Unit” on the character select. I think it’s common sense after all of that.

There’s shitloads more… but since tomorrow is the day… I won’t bother touching into anything else.

To my soldiers, I wish you good luck and make haste!
for there will be bodies…

sentinel is godlike.

Lol, just play tested online a bit. I guess no one can get passed my simple Arthur/Sentinel Lockdown.
Then again, first day for most haha. But yeah, I won about 10 straight games with pure
lockdown haha.

EDIT: Still owning with lockdown
Oh, who is showing up to EGS tonight? might be a big night tonight

I think i’ll show up tonight, so I can get into the groove, and to see everyone since it has been a long time since I was there.

I’ll be there tonight. I still haven’t gotten my copy o MvC3 in the mail yet, but the strategy guide came in lol.

Reminder to everyone that there is no EGS for the next 2 weeks. Next week is Finals week and the week after that is Spring Break. It will be back the 9th of March.

I better get my copy soon so I can learn how to play, I was watching most of the night trying to get some idea how this game is played. I played 1 game for the lulz, somehow landed Haggar’s command grab super. I kept pressing 3P for lariat lol.

I promise soon as my copy arrives in my mailbox I’ll get to practicing, I’ve been studying the guidebook religiously. Shame with no EGS for the next 2 weeks, I’ll have no way to level-up offline. :frowning:

I can’t find a comfortable 3rd, Doing Zero Sent Storm right now, but I don’t really like storm. Just using her to cheese people out with lvl 3 Xfactor hailstorm. Maybe Dante, his AA is gdlk.

Yea zero has alot of crazy stuff… I just stick to the bnb, but he has a ton of mixup options. Too many to list lol

@Matt - Just lvl up your BnB in training for the two weeks!

@Shi - I suggest Chun-Li. Not being biased but she is godlike.
Easy too.
