Wake up Rochester!

Just now starting to lurk for tricks? SMH. =) I’m writing down some topics for the blog, BTW!

I like long sets too, lets me warm up, test the match-up, and incorporate stuff that is hard for me to work in for single games. Similar to how I like 1v1 sessions. That said, our sessions this week oughta revert to 2/3 with SB coming.

You guys preregistered right? Just wanted to let you know that if you didn’t they are reopening preregistration for 2 hours between 8-10 tonight. I know I told you Vinh that I wasn’t going to ranbats, but I managed to get a lot of the shit done this week that I needed to so I’ll be showing up for that (along with math notes probably heh).

Gary - haha, nah I’ve been looking. Just not hard enough. They didn’t have a lot of updated matchups with characters when I looked at it. but now they do and It’s a good read now. And sweet! I can’t wait to see those topics!  Yeah, since we have a small/tight group of players, we can easily do a 2/3.

yeah that sounds good. Yeah man, learn your character. A lot of what i know is due to the cammy forum, which i no longer read

Hey guys, me and a friend want to get better at sf, since we have made plans to go to tourneys in the future. Where do you guys meet up at etc? ik i sound noobish, but it’s worth a shot asking right? =D

Dave - Yeah, was trying to learn the matchups on my own and getting tips from fellow Chun-Mates but now that they have the match ups against characters I really need to beat; It’s a lot better  Your Cammy is “More Tighter” haha.

DevilJin - Hey man, we’re always happy to see new faces :). Umm we mainly have our big community get together at the RIT on wednesday nights. We don’t associate ourselves with EGS but we do however, steal their T.V’s to play on :). So if you need directions, it’ll be located here at our blog -

Where and When Rochester Fight Blog

I’m trying to find, myself, a big place for us to run our monthly ranbats. So yeah, for now I’ll stick with EGS until I find a bigger place to host it on the weekends when a majority of our players are free.

Thanks kitsuji, well count me and my homeboy in! lol…it’ll be good to join a scene and i though there wasnt one here.

DevilJin - Haha. I hope you don’t have trouble finding the building we’re in. I can’t really explain where it’s actually at or what it’s next to. Yeah, we’ve been here for quite some time; just quiet about it haha. Be nice to see new faces tonight. Oh if you have trouble looking for us, look for a bunch of Asians. Well not a “Bunch” just a group of them haha. We’re near a napkins and fork dispenser.

Katsuji - unfortunately I can’t come tonight. I wasn’t able to get in touch with my friend and let him know abt the scene in time. But I will deff try to make it next weds if it’s going to go down again. And I did look up directions on google maps, it’s only 22 mins away from me, no biggie. But I did wanted to come tonight though =/.

The one in the Winter. Traveling is always a good way to power level.

My Ranbat matches were so close…we need to start holding tournaments again so I can do application work…

DevilJin - nahh, it’s all good! haha. Yeah definitely next wednesday. We meet up a lot.

Amber - Hmm, I’ll have to ask Wong about it again. Yeah, you did a good job though and yeah; I’ll be doing this monthly. If people REALLY want more, then I’ll do more than just one per month.

Taken from blog - You can read the FULL post here. Rochester?s Monthly Ranbat [Fall 2010]- #1: Results Rochester Fight Blog

In the end, the way I scored it was like this:

Every win in the Winner?s bracket counted as 2 points. As in the Loser?s bracket, every win counted as 1 point. (Both applying to ?by?s? as well). The winner of grand finals gets 3 additional points. The 2nd winner of grand finals gets 2 points. Everyone else is [Your points + 1 more].

It was the only way to make the numbers look ?right?. Trust me, it was pretty hectic at first but it seems this will be the way I?ll be doing points. It was all crazy numbers at first but Wong and I talked about it and were able to figure out a good set plan. I know the numbers in the end will look big and odd but this is the system I?ll go with for now. If there are any concerns or issues, please discuss. Plus, it wouldn?t hurt to see BIG numbers in the end, besides double digits!

Thank you.

FYI, (in case everyone thinks i’m a huge asshole) in reaction to winning game 1 vs jess I impersonated this guy:
no hard feelings, jess. GGs everyone.

that is all.

lol. I don’t even remember what you did.

I had a fun time tonight, glad I got to see what a nice little community you guys have.

Nah it was funny as hell. I diddnt know the reference but I was laughing lol.

Vinh, you pulled this off really smoothly, big props. We also had alot of people come out of the woodwork, the tourney environment really gets people going. Even though there’s really not much “pressure” in a ranbat (certainly nothing compared to a major or anything), getting more experience playing 2/3 sets is good. Plus, the bracket structure prevents everyone from having to remember a 10 man rotation lol.

I definitely think we should consider bi-weekly ranbats in the coming months. The more we get people out to play competitively beyond normal casuals, the stronger our scene gets. One every two weeks also gives people time to think over matchups they may have had problems with in prior ranbats, as well as experiment with new things together the following week. I’m sure we’ll talk about it more, as I know it can be a hassle to get all the equipment and junk to EGS.

PS: Thanks Minh for supplying the PS3 setup!

Oh why oh why wasn’t I smart enough to be in college by age 14 or dumb enough to take 7 years to graduate T_T

Kitsuji - ight cool, umm usually how long are the sessions, few hours?..

That video is too good lol Great job everyone!

Shi - haha.

DevilJin - Umm on Wednesday we’re there from 8:00PM - 11:00PM.

Thanks to everyone who came and helped out. I’ve got a pretty good structure of how I want to run it next time

mad true. it had a really nice feel and added more pressure to each game, kind of… i was also to help a few people out with certain matchups based on the outcome of a few matches, that was cool. I hope Darrin took notes on that sagat matchup ;D. but yeah, I think 1 ranbat a month would be nice. and EGS provided a good environment as well!
