Wake up Rochester!

where exactly is cyberstorm? ah nvm, google helped me.

I work til 1 pm on sat, so ill try to see if i can get a ride out there or a cab or something lol. what are the mvc2 specs? on ps3? should i bring my stick?

We’re bringing my 360 Hard Drive and It has MvC2 on it and playing SSFIV on 360 as well. We should be fine with sticks, but if you want to bring your own
stick; you are more then welcome.

well, my stick is for a PS3 lol. i just got home from work, should be heading up there later on around 5ish, got a bday party to go to

Anyone still going to be in this thread before the gathering?

I’ve tried going to a ton of Rochester events but never get any PM responses about where/when they are exactly so I might go to Cyberstorm… Any details on the setup, like how many TVs at a time, how many TEs, rotation of players for SSFIV, etc?

crap, i wont be able to make it =[

Hey Rochester, if anyone is planning on coming to the Syracuse tourny this weekend please give us a heads up. Buffalo is coming down with 8-10 and Albany is showing up as well. Should be a good diverse group of players.

Dear Grifter,

Come get scraped.

kthxbye,

cha cha

Screw the Syracuse tournament. The Cleveland tournament this Saturday is going to be bigger and better. We have way more games and have a lot pre-regged already. Plus C-Town is amazing.

Hey guys, Toronto is having an SSFIV and Tekken tournament on July 3rd.
You can read more here.

Try to take our money if you can.

Most likely, if anyone posts about a meetup on saturday at cyberstorm; just come on down. We’re there for the whole day/night, literally. We’re on one TV, 2 TE’s, and it really depends on how many people show up for rotations. I don’t know if there’s a meet up this saturday. if my hunch is right, there won’t be. next week maybe.

Dear Jess,

I miss bodying you.

Love, Vinh.

is this thread broken? I can’t seem to navigate to the last page.

edit: Ok, seems to be working for me again. So grifter, kitsuji and I will be heading to EVO 2010, so wish us luck. Hope some of us will be on the stream (hopefully not under performing).

Dear Vinh,

I hope you flew across the country to get bodied at Evo.

Love,
Jess <3

At least Vinh made the trip, and he didn’t even get the chance to get bodied 0-2 on the ladies’ stream (like you would’ve)!

Finally! I get to view this damn page! D:<

haha don’t worry, I didn’t get bodied. I won 2 of my matches
and I wish you would’ve came so I can watch you get bodied by Kayane

Hahaha!! Thanks for having my back Gary! haha.

oh yeah, if anyone noticed the “Uraaa” balrog sounds during the HDR finals, that was me!
according to Gary, I got mad props for that haha.

Oh yeah, to the point. I just created a Fight Blog for you Rochestarians in town who want to meet up.
The site will have weekly updates on when and where we will be meeting. It would be very nice if you guys can come
and visit the blog!

Damn, EVO was fun. Did alright in pools. Went 3-2. Sent to losers bracket in my second fight. Had such a case of nerves I was making execution errors doing even basic stuff. Though the loss got me fired up, and I played like my usual self after that. After winning 2 in the losers bracket I lost to a 'Rog. The 'Rog fight is tough for Rose. Made it go to the 3rd round of the 3rd fight.

Got bodied by KDZ in casuals. First fight had me so out of sorts I had to take a walk for 10+ minutes before I could make myself go back for more. Double fuckin’ perfect. I don’t remember ever having that happen before. Abel mix ups from Hell.

I’ll be back next year. I had way too much fun not to. First time in Vegas, and had a great time outside of EVO too.

Yay!

Aww man, I wish we could’ve found you when you were playing :(. We wanted to see some rose action!!
yeah, I went 2-2 which is still pretty good for EVO. I had the jitterbugs at first but after the first match, they were gone.
I was also listening to some loud K-pop haha, so that got me going too. I lost to a Ryu twice :frowning: first time was a pretty
scrubby Ryu but I had the Jitterbugs so I was messing up a lot. Second time wasn’t too great, The Ryu was pretty good.

I wish I had gotten to play Ryan Hart or Chris Hu in my pool, o well. I wanted some casuals with a lot of people but I think
they were a bit too busy later on :frowning:

Yeah, It’s fun; either you win or lose. It’s a great experience. I hope you didn’t gamble too much D:

Looks like the EVO staff is already thinking of ways to improve pool play for next year. I like what I’m seeing. From the Suggestions/Improvements for next years Evo thread:

*“Better organized pools” seems to be the biggest request so far. A few years ago EVO outgrew the single-bracket system that many tournaments and started to use the pool system. In 2010 we finally outgrew the current format and will need to switch to something different.

IMO, there was one great failure and one great success of the system used at EVO 2010. The success was that the semi-final pool was so small that all of the matches could be streamed. All of those matches were awesome. To many, they were the highlight of the entire weekend. We definitely want to keep this going in the future.

The failure, as many of you have alluded to, is that playing in your pool was not a great experience. Many of you had to wait hours in the same area, afraid to leave lest you be disqualified. Lots of you couldn’t hear your judges, or judges were too busy and trying to get through their pool that they were unresponsive or sometimes a bit rude. The root cause of all these problems is that the pools are just too big. Having only 16 pools let us create a small semi-final bracket, but put too much stress on the judges and players for those pools.

The solution we’re looking into now is to have at most 16 players per pool. This will force us to go to a 4 stage format. So instead of having:

16 Pools of ~128 players each (top 2 qualify)
1 Semi-Finals bracket (top 8 qualify)
1 Finals bracket.

We’ll have something like:

~128 Pools of 16 players each (top 2 qualify)
~16 Second Stage Pools of 16 players each (top 2 qualify)
1 Semi-Finals bracket (top 8 qualify)
1 Finals bracket.

The advantages of this system are pretty profound. Players will get to play all their matches in bunches. It doesn’t take long to run a 16-man pool, so you won’t have to sit around waiting for 100 other people to play to run your second match. Judges can be much more responsive to a 16 man tournament than a 128 man tournament, and disqualifications will happen immediately rather 2 or 3 hours into the tournament.

Thanks for all the helpful feedback. Keep it coming.*

Maybe this time, I won’t have 10 pros in my pool who make it to the top :expressionless: . . .

-_- trust me I wanted to go, but plane tickets are just too expensive for me. And there’s no way I would have gone 2 and out in the regular tournament OR the ladies one. My sagat has gotten a lot better!

I’m just jealous you all went and I was stuck at home working that whole weekend :frowning:

Okay, probably not the ladies’ tourney, unless you got a tough draw against the top 4. The standard of play in the regular tourney was pretty tough, so you’ll have to show me how far you’ve come. =)
