…Oro’s wake-up options have scarred me… His options seem to counter whatever I’m thinking no matter the character solely based on his fucking close medium punch… I wanna hit him SOOOOOO BAD… The confident player in me says “I can do it. He’ll block. I know he will.” The smart player in me says “Let him push buttons. Back dash and punish whatever he’s thinking. Try crossing up.” The ballsy player in me say "This guy’s a fagget."
Anyway, what’s the mindset of an Oro player on wake-up? Played a guy the other day - karaOK. Played the [frustration] LAMEST Oro (kudos to him. He showed me turtling is a viable form of winning). Found myself with the moral quandary… Do I respect the DP?
What character are you?
For sanity’s sake, let’s say Yang.
For reality… Makoto… Which complicates things…
For yang just sounds like you need to work on your advance okizeme.
Any body can get blown up against a good yang just by mixups alone. It really doesn’t matter much on character.
Far range cr mk is pretty safe. Walk up Kara throw. Zenpo tenshin.
I don’t really respect Oro shoryu that much. You gotta just be smart about it. Punish with cr mk ex slash and mixup/rape from there.
Makoto… Always play seichusen. Toward fp is pretty good from a distance. Kinda gotta play a distance game here but get close when possible.
Here’s the thing though: How should one counter the threat of wake-up mp. Maybe I should respect the Oro dp less but it’s like a ticking time bomb to me and when you add the safer option of normal that kind of kills my mixup…
Guess I just need to throw caution to the wind.
Oro doing wake up st mp?
Bait the whiff and do cr mk slash.
The only way Oro SHOULD land st mp is off a parry. Which is why Oro players fish so much for cr techs.
Of course random Oros will do dash up st mp activate but that only works with tengu stone. This method is random and you just gotta be careful.
Sounds like you need to work on your okizeme or adapt to the player.
if you have a life lead and he has gauge, why play okizeme and risk getting killed? you can always attack from a distance instead or wait out their options. What I mean by attack from a distance is your okizeme doesn’t have to be up in his face, where st mp would come out.
from the right distance I imagine maks st mp cannot be punished on parried by oros close mp. same is probably true with st hp.
Not saying never play okizeme but sometimes against a character especially like oro, Urien, and mak who can do double fukiage, the risk isn’t worth it.
oros options for wake up are block, parry high or low, ex uppercut, lk chicken kick, st close mp, st close mk, cr lk, and back dash.
araider, would you mind making this thread a general Oro thread?
The character forums are not getting fixed, so this might be a good place for discussing Oro stuff.
Also if you didn’t know, close mp can be reversal supered on block by fast supers. however if they jump cancel it then it won’t work or something. it’s one of those things that’s useful to know if the opponent doesn’t know any better.
I just throw his ass. Worst thing in the world he can do is that Charge Up Punch or the EX Version and he can’t do that SA2 bs or other shenanigans afterward. Don’t throw every time of course.
It’s not like Urien where if he Headbutts you he can still do bs (especially online).
I think it’s my lack of experience vs. someone who’s actually decent with Oro… I need more experience vs. better players -__-
If your whole problem is Oro on wake up, then as Makoto it should be easy to keep him standing and avoid knocking him down.
I remember having a small talk with Ken I long ago at AI after he had a small talk with a notable yang player ( can’t recall if it was rom or kofiend ). I had just taken over his Yang game as he’d gone to play GG elsewhere in the arcade. I lost the game and found him outside and asked him a question regarding how to continue the assault after hitting a far strong with no slash follow up opportunity. He was expressed to me that there were many ways to use yang in a true rush down sense, meaning hit after hit after hit with no knockdowns in between the hits. He asked the yang player if there were any options that would keep the player standing, where Ken felt he was more of a threat. I don’t recall what he said the other player advised him but Ken went on to explain that he hated the knockdown game because that was usually where things turned around on him.
I think I just added a lot of unnecessary information but just in case that didn’t help…
Makoto standing roundhouse owns ALL of Oro’s normals. Oro can’t attempt to poke you out if you use the rh to poke his pokes. Of course, whiffing leaves you open to jump in…and now that I think about it, I’m sure there would be at least one Oro normal to beat this one out, probably standing strong.
Makoto standing strong beats most of Oro’s normals. Exceptions to this are standing forward and roundhouse. So maybe use this when you’re within range of those kicks but too far for Oro’s close mp launcher. And just in case you still aren’t sure, these two attacks work well because oro has long start up and quick active frames and then a bit of recovery, generally speaking. Makoto’s normals have regular start up, long active frames and then decent recovery.
Short hayate can be used as a small tip that will hit an extended normal but cause any counter attacks to whiff in front of her face. You still be hit low but it should make no sense to challenge a low with a hayate unless it was to punish a Oro whiffed cr. rh.
Like ryan said toward fp is good at the right distance, in that it also stays out for a long time and stuffs Oro’s normals on start up.
Play on GGPO and I can help you with some in game commentary. Just let me know when I’m around
This is KaraOK, i played oro just for fun, sorry if you got frustrated. I think blocking or not blocking an uppercut is mainly mind game and adapting, it’s not really specific to Oro. I play on Xbox 360 now, up for challenges =)
HA!
A year after we played you comment on this board. Nice.
That was a fun set.
No frustration there, I’ve just never played against someone who used Oro’s buttons in that way.
I gave up my Xbox and I’m hardly on GGPO anymore.
I may get another Xbox in the future but…
Being a bachelor… I may invest in a versus city cab w/ 3S, CVS2 and something else stored inside the machine.
It was nice online 3s. It was a fun ride.
so that means I cant beat on you anymore…noooooooo ROFL .l.
