Vs. button mashers and spammers in any game

what about when people mash light attack and put you under pressure in the corner ?

MVC: Pushblock or X-Factor Guard Cancel or Alpha Counter
SF4 & SFxT: Block (or Alpha Counter in SFxT)
KOF: Block or Guard Cancel
BB: Barrier or start Instant-Blocking for meter

Mash jabs in the corner?
idk about the rest of y’all, but when I have someone in the corner, and I’m using lights to apply pressure, the last thing I’m doing is mashing them. It might seem like that because 2-3 come out in a string, but truly mashing them will quickly get you smacked… I mean, a meaty jab that’s not well-timed will get beat (at least in ST) if I hold back and mash HP… You’ll tick yourself into punishment.

It depends on which character and what game it is, but if you are blocking the light attacks, they will get pushed out to a point where they no longer make contact and what happens after that depends of a number of factors that you haven’t provided yet, for people to give you more accurate information. But assuming that you know how to block properly, the light attacks will push then out to a range where they have to do something else and what happens from there depends on how well you know your options and theirs.

It’s very hard to out throw a turbo user (super masher) in ST on GGPO.

It’s always the scrubby winner’s fault. This is a fighting game! That scrub who just use that one tactic to win matches against me is not fighting. He is not macho like me.

I used to know this flowchart/masher that played 3S Ken at a local arcade. I used to love to watch him beat down guys that thought they knew what they were doing.

His whole game plan was:

Cross up MK

If it hit, crouch MK into Fierce Shoryuken, cancel into SA2 if he had meter

If the cross up Mk was blocked. He’d just sweep, which no one ever really punished.

Crouch fierce as his anti-air of choice of course.

He knocked out a Urien player at a tourney once. Everyone made fun of that guy after that.

Good times. I miss arcades

the opponent doesnt even need to have experience. If they are just constantly attacking in panic mode, you can lose to anyone. You think “now they’ll use that fancy combo to deplete my energy”. But they’re not. they just do the basics. You lose before you even know it.
I lost offline to people who havent even played the game…I let them enjoy the game. In fact I prefer this to being double perfected by people who know the game inside out

True that.

In the arcade, it’s also a bit easier because you can hear the difference between them mashing or hitting the buttons properly.

Man, I can’t go for that, when people “take it easy” in a play-to-win situation. Screw getting handled with the baby gloves, losing that badly only shows me how much further I need to go.

Scrubs are kind of like a plague. If you lose to one, you sometimes get deemed one and its hard to wash away the infection. At least in this case if you’re beaten by a scrub who uses the same tactic and you make an excuse, it kind of makes you look like one of them.

I know from this experience. Never again.

Best way to learn is to go into training mode set the dummy to do scrubby tactics and practice your punishes. One scrubby tactic I see a lot is the Ken masters mash jab dp over and over. Another is the E.honda buttslam/headbutt Spam. Best advice I can give you to improve your play is when you go online or offline and after a match you say to yourself “how do i defend against that” or “how do i stop that” go into training mode replicate what happened and figure it out.

Anyone who loses to chris G is a scrub.

If some one is doing the same move repeatedly, they are usually:
A: Trying to see if you actually know how to stop it. If you can’t, why would they throw away the match like that?
B: Think the move is better than it is. Usually, bopping them with your counter tactic makes them stop.
C: Afraid of having to block/deal with your character. Once again, they stop when you counter it a few times.
Seriously, just find a way around it. Idk how most people deal with fireballs in SF4/SFxT, I haven’t played in almost a year and I’m a Dudley main. 99 times out of 100, spammable non-projectile attacks are unsafe enough to punish or don’t lead into anything threatening.

I actually enjoy playing against someone who uses the same move to hit me, especially if he exploit the fact that I can’t deal with it. I get disappointed when they try to mix it up and use stuff that I can deal with because it’s less practice for me.

I’m a scrub and can’t help. But my rule number 1 is: If I loose it’s my fault. If I loose for “cheap tricks” “mashing” or “spamming” It’s even worse. It means I played really really poorly and need to change/understand/improve something to change that.

But If you have no idea what you are doing some players will just fireball and dragon punch you to death, and you might think it’s all they can do. The problem is not what they can do. It’s what you can’t.

Quoting this shit for truth sir.

The better understanding of what other characters moves are and or what can be punished helps a lot. I’ve recently gone back to basics with some of that and its already helped improve my game a little bit. Plus there being a decent difference between online play and in person.

Is Justin Wong a scrub?
Zoning = Keeping your opponent in the part of the screen that gives you the greatest advantage.
Spamming = Throwing projectiles/Using a move without thought or reaction
Chris zones extremely well.
Spam != Zoning

The sarcasm wasn’t obvious in that post?
