Voice Actors for MvC3

Seems like there’s an awful lot of complaining about Zero’s VA. He’s not quite as good as his X8//MHX VA, but he still sounds great.

I have to say, I think I’m most impressed with Ryu’s voice, though. His SF4 was horrible in my opinion, but he really sounds a lot more aggressive this time around. I love the “Ready… FIGHT!” style taunt he has at the beginning of some matches, really adds a lot of character to him.

This. I also wasn’t too impressed with Ryu in SFIV, sounds a lot better in MvC3.

Yeah at this point I’m leaving everyone on English at least at first.

Aww, I’m sad that Dee Bradley Baker isn’t voicing Viewtiful Joe in this game. I love his work in the VJ series. To be fair, from the videos I’ve heard, Darrel Guilbeau seems to do a fine job as well.

Wow, Viewtiful Joe’s voice changed? I’ll admit, it’s been a while since I played, but the new guy does a great job, then!

I am sad, though, how few lines he seems to have. To me, he was the Deadpool of the Capcom universe. Having them both in the game should’ve been mind-bogglingly awesome, but VJ just doesn’t seem very talkative.

Ryu actually sounds like he has some life in him this time round. Love it!

Yeah, Baker will always be ‘The’ Viewtiful Joe to me. The new guy isn’t TOO bad, a little cartoony, but I’m cool with it.
At least they didn’t use the ‘tv show’ VA, thank god for that.

No, because that was a troll response.

A serious thought out answer to the original question would have been “He’s not speaking English”.

The tags for this thread are fantastic.

Honestly was not trolling. I just thought you’d have a good reason.

Blazblue had a couple of characters who did well in english (Iron Tager, Noel
Vermillion (most of her lines were good, some…not so much) and Ragna (again,
not all his lines were good, but his normal talking bits sounded good) along with
Litchi and V-13. Unfortunately, Bang, Taokaka, and Hakumen were god awful
compared to the other “meh” actors.

In regards to SCII, Nightmare, Ivy, Cervantes, and Rapheal were pretty good.
Astoroth and Maxi were decent. The rest were either okay, or not that great
in comparison. But I was surprised to hear a mostly decent or up voice cast on
a fighter.

I disagree with the japanese VAs sucking. I will say that the english for III and IV
was very unimpressive and disappointing.

Indeed. At least you won’t be having as nearly a hard time as I will adjusting
to the shitty voices coming from Marvel’s side. :shake: God damn you for taking
away my option for japanese Capcom. God damn you.

Yeah, you have some screwed up expectations for English VAs.

This surprises me. All things considered, Johnny Yong Bosch is one of the more experienced VAs with a fairly
good track record (voiced Vash the Stampede from Trigun for starters) and actually is one of the few
American VAs who can pronounce japanese and not sound terrible.

Not necessarily “screwed up”, but I will admit that my standards for voice-acting
are ridiculously high.

I’m liking most of the ENG VAs. My standouts being Doom, Magneto, Deadpool, Hulk, Wolverine, Iron Man, Zero, Tron, Arthur and Chris. I’m torn when it comes to Morrigan. I really like her JPN voice but I have a hard time resisting DAT Scottish accent.

I actually thought Hakumen was fine and Bang had one of the better deliveries in BB…

Me too to be honest.

I just loved Noel the best for some reason…her voice was all cutesy and stuff. I melt when playing with her against Litchi.

“Gimme that Panda!”

Hakumen’s VA in japanese makes him sound overly intimidating and very dark
(which does suit how he looks too). You listen to his American version and…
it’s honestly like, “wow, there’s virtually NO intimidation or commanding
prescence whatsoever in your voice.” And godDAMN does the American guy
sound terrible when he does Hakumen’s speech compared to the japanese
one.

Bang is interesting, because he’s one of those “deep-voiced, eccentric yet
still sounds very masculine” characters whose nailed perfectly in japanese,
yet here in America we for some reason, can NEVER find someone who can
sound good doing it. I mean look at the Gurren Lagaan dub. Most characters
on that show do all kinds of voices in that style, yet in english (especially
for Kamina shakes fist) they royally suck and fail at capturing that spirit
and sound that the japanese carry so well.

To me, it was as if the moment the American recording studio heard their
japanese dialogue they thought “well fuck us, we can’t find anybody who
sounds that cool. Let’s just grab anybody and call it a day.”

JOHNNY YONG BOSCH!!!

Agreed. While I did like Zero’s voice from Ocean Dubs (Command Mission, X8, MHX, etc.), I thought JYB also did a good job.

Besides, he has to continue living up to his “young Asian with a bladed weapon” typecast SOMEHOW =P

Overall, I’m actually quite pleased with the English voice cast. I had no problems with Kyle Hebert, Laura Bailey, and Michelle Ruff as Ryu, Chun-Li, and C.Viper (respectively) in SF4. I thought Magneto’s voice and lines/script were a good choice to give him more of an “old school” feel (in b4 SCOOPS!)

I think there are only three English voices that I find slightly questionable: Captain America, Morrigan, and Akuma. I didn’t expect the Cap to have a bit of John Wayne in his voice, and Morrigan… all I’ve heard is “Dodge this!” from her missile barrage, and it sounds a little cheesy.

Akuma… well… he went straight to JP voice on my SSF4 file.

No, I meant I was trolling when I posted “the way he sounds”.

He sounds alright, but being in my spoken language takes priority over the actual quality of the voice.
