Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

They need to release THAT shit. Then most of america wouldn’t be all yawn. We want fighting GAMES, not simulators.

Good shit. Now all that’s left is for a proper soundtrack release of VF5R or FS.[/fanboy-ism]

VF is a game man. That simulation shit was like decades ago (But even then… really?) Vf now is a game but you get more options and play close range mind games more.

What don’t you like about it, exactly? Options? Gameplay that makes something resembling sense outside a shonen-type world?

What ?

Since when ?

Ever seen Kage throw someone 10 feet into the air ?
How about People bouncing of the ground 4 feet into the air and then continued to be juggled ?

im with this man right here!

I was afraid SEGA might have been sticking to a “one game per console life-span” policy, in regards to the VF series, but as there’s now two Arcade updates of VF5 and seemingly plenty of life left in 360 and PS3, then it does make splendid commercial sense (for a change) to deliver a new port this generation.

Not quite sure what that guy a few pages back meant about presentation, unless it was just bored trolling (and how can you knock 90s Arcade Fighters posting on a forum/site named after a Dragon Punch? D’oh!).

If you hook your new Xbox’s HDMI port up to a HD monitor, VF5 still looks absolutely jaw-dropping, it really does. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Super SF4’s contemporary graphics, but seeing the stages and Martial Art styles, and of course, absolute plethora of costume designs in modern VF is just something else entirely… plus you can probably pick the game up for under $10 these days!
Netcode seems very slick too, and still a few non East Asian players about if you’re patient, or use other forums to arrange matches etc.

If a new version really is on it’s way, now’s the time to get familiar with the basics and some movelists, (which don’t tend to alter that radically throughout each new installment), or as Vanessa would say, “TIME FOR A COMBAT SEMINAR!”

Yeah, it’s pretty cool, and a standalone example. Kage in general is the outlet for appealing but impractical.

Easily explainable as representing the juggled characters losing their footing further and further while the juggling characters press their attack further. I would think showing the attacked characters getting hit by each of the attacking character’s moves and losing their footing 100% accurately would be a lot more trouble to show.

It’s not bad necessarily that the average fighting game is cartoonishly ridiculous, that’s probably a good part of the appeal regardless of who admits it. That doesn’t mean VF, on the other end of the spectrum, should be bashed instead of praised for trying to emulate more realistic space control into gameplay to the best of its ability.

A leaked pamphlet for Final Showdown hit the net this morning… here’s the link:

Translation for those who are too lazy to visit my awesome site:

  1. The game system gets revised!
The base game system of Virtua Fighter gets a dramatic change, to give our dedicated players the stimulus that they need! The classic triangle system of ?Attack, Guard, Throw? has been refined considerably to make it more pronounced.

Evading is now a very high risk, high return action! The offensive and defensive properties of moves are now more pronounced. Character?s individual enhancements are also being implemented. For Akira, it?ll focus on ?crushing single strike attacks?!

  1. New Special Costumes!
Compared to the past costumes, players will be able to freely coordinate their costumes in a very new way! You can now coordinate all of the costume parts together without any restrictions! Of course, we?re also adding new items as well!

  2. Single player mode gets a revamp with virtually
The Single Player Mode ?Knockout Trial? gets an expansion! You can now choose your route through the mode freely, appealing to many different players.

  3. Other
Graphical facelift: The game?s UI and stages will all get revamps to make them more appealing!
Ranking System: We?re going to eliminate your disatisfaction! Advanced players will be able to battle with more ferocity! Lower ranked fighters will be able to aim for higher ranks with more ease!
Fragment System: We?re going to eliminate your disatisfaction! The fragments will greatly decrease, and you?ll be able to fight in many more item/orb matches!
Item: Items will become easier to acquire than in the previous iteration. High quality item capsules will also be added to encourage more play!

Damn, just saw this posted on your site! AWESOME RENO! Thanks for the info, man I just want to see SEGA announce the console ver already!

Actually the stuff that the fighting game community considers to justify a sequel (new characters, moves, ect.) would be dlc in any other genre. Granted, adding things that affect gameplay while keeping an acceptable level of balance is a lot harder for fighters than other genres, but still.

Not placing a value judgment, just pointing out a fact.

Japanese marketing attitude is so awesome.

SO awesome.

What’s the possibility that we’ll find an arcade cabinet for it in the US upon release?

Still waiting for an XBLA port of VF2 with GGPO and lobbies.

Oh, this is a VF5 thread. Yeah, it’s definitely a game in the VF series alright.

Now where’s my port of VF2?

Not gonna happen.

The netplay on the PC port seems decent.

Don’t forget about the Genesis port on Sega Genesis Collection [PS2]. Sadly, there isn’t netplay for it.

This is great news. I hope SEGA gets with the program. I can’t wait to hear more.

Why would anyone want to play VF2 anyways? Only reason to play that is for the nostalgia…because it sure isn’t the gameplay.

lol i guess so. But back in the day. The gameplay was a phenom in Japan.
