Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

Maybe it’s just the videos I’ve been watching, but I actually see more throws being broken in FS than in 5R or vanilla. I don’t know enough about the system to really say why, but there are only three directions for throws (4, 5, 6,) as opposed to five in the last two, so that might have something to do with it, as well as the lack of 0-frame throws. Then again, multiple throw escapes are also gone, so who the hell knows…

Throws execute in 10 frames in VF5FS, not 0 or 4. VF5 vanilla throws executed in either 12 or 0 frames. 0 frame throws only happen if the opponent just standing there and guarding. VF5FS got rid of the 0 frame throw in favor of a more VF4-like throw system (VF4 throws executed in 8 frames).

In general, throw escapes can be buffered out of the recovery of unsafe moves on block if timed correctly. This is the primary way to go about doing throw escapes. If you’re playing smart you’ll have a throw escape input in there before you guard or after you input a sidestep. Since strikes in FS blow through throws like they did in VF4, you can also go for that but if you didn’t read the situation correctly you will be hurtin’.

I can only speculate but maybe the ease of that yutari throw escape has something to do with people breaking throws more consistently. Combine that with 3 escapes instead of 5 or 6, an extended lifebar, and non-grappler characters having only one really good, damaging throw – the mindgames get a lot easier to navigate for the person trying to defend against a throw.

Brad is Steve Fox/Bruce which is for locking people down. Goh well they just gave him his character design nothing really tekken about him besides that. He’s whatever tekken character has a shit ton of autoparrys.

I’d say Dragunov would sorta be Tekken’s version of Goh and not just because they’re both pale white guys that turn me on.

Goh has Drag’s fighting style (really it’s the other way around since Goh was there first) and Bryan Fury’s attitude/look/voice.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Some fights I see a lot of throws being broken. In others I don’t. In VF there are SO MANY different ways to fight with one character. Seriously, I have never seen two people fight the same way with the same character. Sarah mirror matches are fucking fantastic to watch.

Ah yea, I wasn’t talking about the standard generalizations like Shun Di is similar to Lei Wulong or Craig Marduk is a hybrid of Vanessa/Jeff.

Lol, I actually thought you were saying there were concrete Tekken mechanics implemented into Brad and Goh by the design team.

No way. Bryan is a total braindead cyborg who just lives to fuck shit up and cause chaos now. They really removed any personality he had. It’s not really the definition of badass that most people refer to but it’s subjective I guess.

But I wasn’t talking about similar looks or fighting styles. I know how every fighter in both games play and already made any necessary comparisons and translations. I just thought ShinyBrentford meant that the Tekken design team implemented Tekken mechanics into those specific characters, ya know, besides what Namco and Sega has “borrowed” from each other over the years.

Nope just there looks.

Alright, thanks for clearing it up.

To be fair, Bryan never really had a personality to begin with. He’s always been just an angry cyborg who laughs a lot. Namco totally ruined his looks in Tekken 6 though, he looked exactly like Roy Batty in T5 and DR, which I tought was bad ass. Now he’s just… ugly.

Also, on the subject of Goh being similar to Tekken character, I don’t really see it. Tekken doesn’t have a Judo fighter, besides Paul VERY loosely, who has a lot of counters and shit. Sabakies don’t really exist in Tekken aside from a few moves that automatically parry punches, like Bryan’s df+1+2. The character with most parries and reversals is Wang, but he’s a old kung-fu bastard.

Paul’s judo is karate based, implementing more striking attacks.

Let me answer as many of the questions as I can, and post thoughts of the games release.

Go out and buy vf5 for both systems if u want to go online with it u need to get u an x-box also go out and buy vf4 evo and a ps2, supprisingly I think the most amount of dedicated players are from Colorado there has to be something like 20 plus high level players in that state, learn a few moves a day for your character then when u got a good deal of them learned, learn the techniques of the game.

I am very excited for the release of 5FS yes its a year away and its quite a ways a way, but that will give them time to perfect online play add a ton of items, and make it a great package for both systems!!! Oh yeah no fence sitting on this game buy it for both systems when the new one drops no questions asked.

Two new matches. Anaguma’s Jacky is retarded…

Just wanted to share my excitement with those of you who are VF fans. I just found out about the good news. I’d been on hiatus from VF5 for a while but knowing that VF5:FS is coming has suddenly sparked my interest in my favorite fighting game series once more.

Was reading the GamesRadar preview, got distracted by this.

Akira also has that one new throw added in FS where he punches his opponent in the nads.

This is super awesome news, but dude isn’t this game a few years old? Any word on a brand new VF?

Final Showdown just came out in the arcade LAST YEAR.

I picked up a copy of VF5O.

Maybe I can learn something. Even if it’s not wholly applicable to VF5FS, I’m a blank slate when it comes to VF so there should be some basics I can glean.

Go to VirtuaFighter.com and look for some matches or just send me a invite. ShinyBrentford is my xbox live

There’s a VF5:FS live stream from Japan starting in about 15 minutes (10:30 pm Pacific): http://www.ustream.tv/channel/vf-battle-channel
