Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown console thread

Dunno bout Xbox but this is an above average game to own via PSN. I think if you play and lose 30-50 times it would have paid itself off in the Arcade Machine equivalent. But the quick matches is what I love the most. I can fit in 2 rounds of VF5 in the same play time as SF4AE because of all the load times SF has. It’s really great to pick up and play. Complicated enough to do more research on the massive command list for each character.

Why is this even an question.

Hey, should I get the best 3D fighter for only 15 bucks?

Taka…that guy IS Ganryu. Down to the exact same moves having the SAME properties and even similar or same inputs. What’s mid is mid, high is high, low is low. Combos themselves look nearly the same, both of their multi-grab hug gives same-looking throw options, Ganny’s new string in TTT2 is Taka’s f+KPP, etc. I know there’s universal sumo stuff, but goddamn man. And I’m def not complaining about it because this is a good thing. Just gotta get my system fundamentals back from 4Evo, and these new changes, incorporate Taka’s stance mixups and place his frame advantage moves in some good spots, and the rest will flow. Seriously though, the paper similarities between these two guys is uncanny as fuck. Headbutt? Fastest frame knockdown move here too? But a combo even on normal hit? C’mon man…this is sex lol.

Fyi about VF5FS, you either love it or hate it. But please God if you decide to actually play the game more than one time, I beg you to spend a few minutes learning a few moves, followups, and just a bit about the system itself. I’m nowhere near true competitive level in this series but nothing pains me more than playing against a retarded masher in these games. Tekken, I can tolerate it for a sec because I just autopilot carry them across the screen into walls and smash until they don’t want to play anymore, but in VF it’s just aggravating. I repeat, TWO BUTTONS DON’T MASH WELL. Played one guy online last night who was 1st Dan. Had 103 matches or something and dude still pounded buttons like this was a QTE. Kept getting up with attacks and getting punished. Block or SS was not on his mind. My thing is, I just don’t see how it’s fun to do that, especially in this game, for more than 2 matches. This idiot had over a hundred, first day, and still didn’t know which move would come out next.

Please, please, please, I’m begging…just play Dynasty Warriors if you want to mash 2 buttons. For real man. In this day and age, people need to be locked away for shit like that. My gf at least learns a few things and trys to stick to what she sees working. Niggas don’t care anymore as long as they can make outfits.

If you’re on PSN, you should get it for $30 ($45 on the XBOX) so you can have your character wear a Sega Dreamcast on their back.

ALSO, does anyone know what the advanatage/disadvantage of offensive and defensive move are?

Can’t really check with the in-game frame data…

Or can I?

yea he feels so different now, not even sure how hes supposed to be played now dont even know where to start.

Ive seen some match vids but that can only do so much.

You can see it in training mode or look here!

Yeah, doesn’t seem Players Met works for any mode PSN.

Someone should make a bugs & glitches thread.

Is costume pack 2 just an unlock key? it seems like it downloaded instantly

Jeffry is 100% the brawler type. He lacks the tricks and added properties to his moves that others have(sabakis, counters, not as many guard staggers), but he makes up for that with overwhelming strength, fundamental play, and some nice little situational tricks. His new threat stance moves and transitions into it and the addition of some better mid-ranged mids beef him up from the older games imo, especially since they removed a lot of his worse moves. The only thing I miss is his old 2K+G(tech crouch low kick) as it was far better than his 1K, and the 1PP string isn’t natural combo on normal hit, and the first hit is a special low… BUT if they get hit by 1PP it’s a fat chunk for a low and gives a knockdown on even normal hit. Just pray to whatever god you believe in that they don’t know the frame data on it.

I’m really liking El Blaze, I didn’t really expect to. I sort of gravitated towards the kung fu characters but when I ran Blaze through his command list he’s so much fun. Sadly I can’t find the right combination of pieces to make him into Dr Doom and have his drop kick be a foot dive (lol) so I just threw some shit together and now he’s Mexican Robocop.
Playing online isn’t that great for me but I’m pretty sure that’s my cruddy internet so I’m not sweating it. I’m having enough fun offline as is.

I love the game but right now I’m trying to figure out whether or not to buy the costume packs. I’m not averse to paying extra, especially since the game is so cheap, but we’re talking about tripling the buy-in cost (360). I’m thinking about just getting the packs for the characters I play, but I also noticed that there’s a single player option that’s only available if you have DLC for every character. What’s the deal with that? I guess I’m just going to play some more while I decide.

Anyone know the shades of the colors mean on the frame advantage counter?

I’ve seen green, yellow, orange and sky blue

Not that it really matters but has anyone else run into something strange where your connection ratio isn’t being displayed properly? Mine is the orange face yet I’ve never disconnected from a match.

I think it’s just a way of indicating how punishable a move is.

Ummm im not sure how correct this is but from what I know, u cant kick ppl from ur lobbies in this game. Thats a huge problem if im wrong, do u guys know how to kick ppl from lobbies?

I wish this game had split searches into regions. I never found the “same” option to be reliable. I’m having a blast with this game. Been playing with Vanessa right now.

I tried reading, but I’m not exactly sure where the section that indicates the frame data for the side-step maneuvers are…

Like, I mostly wanna know how punishable stuff is if it’s side-stepped or how much advantage I get if I side-step someone’s stuff.

I think there also seems to be differing advantage based on whether I do a successful offensive or defensive move…

But I don’t know.

It looks like they dropped one of Pai’s throws that’s been in VF since like… the beginning of time. I think it was a reversal animation in vanilla VF5, but at least it was there :frowning:

I’m debating the same thing. The PSN Complete edition kinda spoiled me, since now I don’t want to pay so much more for everything on 360. Probably just get the packs for the character(s) I play and avoid the rest until there’s a sale or something.

Am I the only one who has crappy ass sound ? Ive played VF5 a few times lately and the sound is much more ass compared to the previous version.
Some moves are very quiet compared to other moves … the sound in general is really really bad… i dont know whats going on…
